Pfalz D.III replica from The Blue Max
KiwiRho replied to k5054nz's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Loved that movie when I was a kid. You model does it proud. Great, great work. Must check out the Omaka next time I'm down that way. I hear a lot of good things about it. -

That is inspiring for any model maker. I just love this - and your photography is perfect as well and just helps with showing this kit off. Your weathering and paint work is to die for. Awesome work!

Wow! Just a beautifully finished kit there. Not often do you see the coloured stars and bars on front-line a/c these days (that's the US Marines for you, I suppose). Superb subtle but appropriate weathering. Stunning all around.

Airbus A319 and the Gulf of Guinea
KiwiRho replied to mitchem's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Mike - you continue to impress. Great looking kit there. Also, it is interesting to see / hear what inspires people to make a particular model with a particular livery. Consulting FlightRadar24 for ideas suggests you have moved on on your choice of decision-maker from "aircraft I have flown in" or "aircraft I see at my local airport", to something quite novel. And why not! Brilliant idea Hahaha! Awesome work! PS. I have purchased that Roden B720 and the Air Rho decals and am starting that one now inspired by you... - it's all your fault!- 26 replies

Great example of that beautiful bird. You made a magnificent model there - even if it is 10 years old! Sadly no longer flying today but thankfully on one level, can be found at museums. The Singapore 'half' is beyond super cool (just because it is not BA or Air France, I hasten to add, as everyone knew those two liveries). I know there was a 'Pepsi blue' Air France Concorde too - but I also read somewhere that only lasted one flight as the sticker ripped to shreds as the aircraft stretched at Mach 2 over the Atlantic. Awesome work.

Aer Lingus Boeing 737. Authentic Airliners
KiwiRho replied to Viking's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Awesome baby Boeing. Great story on the decals, albeit a hard one, and good on you for ensuring it has the right look in the end. Working on a 737-100 conversion of the Airfix 737-200 kit myself at moment (Ansett New Zealand, eventually). Apart from the major chopping and carving up of the poor little thing (left me feeling like John Wayne Bobbit's surgeon must have felt... ), the limitations of the Airfix kit are still all too obvious and thus I am jealous of your Authentic Airliners kit. You have shown it off for what it is is. Beautiful! Well done, sir! You have inspired.- 23 replies

Great finish and loved the video. Well done for having the patience for that as well. Phabulous!

I have today received an Amazon ordered-and-supplied Roden Boeing 720 kit - in order to build my own 1970s Air Rhodesia example (decals already purchased) - and a very nice it is too... apart from those over-sized engines and the odd ill-located fuselage panel lines everyone knows about. In fact, apart from all that was nice looking on the kit tree-sprues, it was quite obvious the engines immediately looked far too fat and over scale. I have research posts and threads for Africa around the 'net on this, and amongst others found and read through the fascinating, lengthy, humourous, sometimes testy, thread on Britmodeller initiated by Jennings Heilig from 7 Sept 2013. I assume all those who contributed in that post have no real desire to rehash old subject matter, but... I wanted to know, other than Authentic Airliners (whose product set is out of stock/production as of the date of my post here), does any other after-market supplier currently make / manufacture / stock / broker / sell more accurate JT-3C turbo-fans in 1/144th scale? Does anyone else likely hold stock of the Authentic Airliners set? I can't seem to find anywhere else yet despite what I think has been a reasonably exhaustive search. The other thing - has anyone out there in 1/144 scale land had a go at "slimming" the Roden kit engines - and is there enough plastic their to even try? What do others think who have faced the same issue? Cheers Dave ** Attn: Jessica - if you're available to provide any answers - you always appear have good things to suggest - I would be most grateful for your comment/s as well.

Is it Percical or Percival? Agree with previous comment - nice model you've got there and definitely one that you don't see that often. Vacform was it - sorry haven't seen it WIP but will check your link. Thanks for sharing!

Classy! From one who loves 'nose art'. Excellent metal panel and panel lines finishes too so thanks for sharing. -
Good choice of after market decals. They suit this kit well. And, yeah, agree those winglets look a tad out of shape (an easy fix, I suggest) but overall that is great job. You did very well for a first up effort. I am impressed!

Wow, that is a really nice finish. Your weathering is superbly subtle and with enough accuracy to look believable. Pricey kit but obviously the end results look fabulous (if I can use that word... haha!). Thanks for sharing. -

Wow! Great finish you have there and I am inspired as a result. Well done. I too read the many "helpful" critiques of one kit or another - and take it on board (but also with a tiny grain of salt). It just makes me think, well, that's why we are modellers - to represent something as close to the real thing so lets work towards that using what we have got. If you haven't yet, check this vacform C-17 as another example of major build challenge: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234983904-172nd-scale-c-17a-globemaster-iii/ Having stated that, there are plenty of kits that do push the modellers good graces to its limits. I suppose it comes down to just how much the individual modeller is willing to accept. Anyway, the issues you touch on are not at all outwardly obvious - yours is simply a fantastic result after what I take was some hard work. Thanks heaps for sharing. -
Awesome finish. Great weathering and scale paint work. I really like the 'carrier lift' set as well. Well done indeed.

Beautiful job. From a 'virtually unbuildable' vacform to this stunningly amazing rendition - you have done yourself proud. You are a true model maker (I'm extremely jealous). Well done and thanks for sharing all the way through WIP. Much appreciated. -

Stunning 'metal work'! How much buffing was involved with that? Cool as and and a thoroughly inspiring finish. Very well done.
