Quite a neat looking model. Shame about the crazy paving, I have done it on one of my previous builds and left it alone as you don't really notice it with model on display shelf.

Frightning, F.6 that make my teeth sweating !!

Very nice model. Quite a change to see a EE Lightning with a shark mouth scheme. -
An excellent build, the hard work certainly paid off.

Very nice, do like the Tamiya kits. Particularly for those times you just want the kit falling together without having to fix anything. -

1/72 Airfix Mitsubishi Zero, IJN carrier Akagi
Knight_Flyer replied to Knight_Flyer's topic in Carriers Ahoy! GB
So a bit of a miscalculation on my part... forgot this is still an ongoing build and with the 15th looming 🧛♂️ There's still a few areas to paint such as the prop and decided to make a start on the decals to save time. Should make it for the end but it will be very close and then immediately need to do the same for another GB model. With the decals, Airfix have tried to make it as convenient as possible by grouping up the markings such as the tail and the wing walkways. Unfortunately in does result in a lot of carrier film (no pun intended ) with the risk of a lot of silvering. Best to separate out the markings and remove the excess film I am also trying Humbrol Decalfix, it's sort of ok but appears to have a bit of a corrosive property. The model has a thin layer of Humbrol Clear to help with decal adhesion. The Decalfix is taking that layer off, not sure if it will affect the final varnish of matt we'll just have to see I guess. -

Looks great and a very neat paint finish. Painting yellow is indeed a hard colour to get a good result. Thanks for posting that, I thought my computer monitor had started to pack up -
Very nice and the rigging looks quite effective.

Nice build. Quite unusual seeing that kind of nose, more used to the grey one in your group photo.

Nice model and I like the diorama.

Very impressive build. At least it's not a 747, then you really would be stuck as to where to park it- 27 replies

1/72 Airfix Hawker Typhoon Ib, 440 (RCAF) Squadron, "Pulverizer II" F/O Harry Hardy DFC Built for the Hawker GB. This aircraft also fits neatly into my nose art theme as well as Canadian. Decals are aftermarket as the Airfix kit has markings for a different RCAF Typhoon. Build itself is typical Airfix. They seem to want you to fit a whole load of parts before closing the fuselage. In this case - cockpit floor with seat and instrument panel, lower wing, radiator housing and the tail wheel. The wing to fuselage join is never perfect either requiring filler, sanding etc Advise is the usual, do a lot of dry fitting and come up with a plan to make assembly as perfect as possible. I tried to keep the weathering to a minimum as possible - not quite factory fresh and to have flown a few missions. If you notice, the second row of mission markings are painted brooms. This was to represent fighter sweeps All in all, not a bad kit and tempted to build another one armed with rockets... although I heard Airfix didn't do a good job replicating them.

1/72 Airfix P-40B Tomahawk
Knight_Flyer replied to Knight_Flyer's topic in Royal Air Force Centenary Groupbuild
Right, this is where we're up to. Paint pretty much all there just need to do a bit of touch up in places. Canopy on without too much of a problem. Prop all done. Exhaust needs painting as well as guns and also need to do the sky fuselage band... and don't forget the pitot Think I'll wait a week for paint to thoroughly dry before doing anything else. Also gives me a chance to make a start on the 262. Already dry fitted the engines and I cannot believe what a momentous mess they made of it. It's almost like the wing and nacelle weren't designed to fit on each other, I even tried swapping the nacelles round in case the instructions were wrong. I sincerely hope Airfix doesn't continue this as a trend, otherwise they may as well move to Eastern Europe and label their kits short run 🧛♂️ -

More progress. Not entirely happy with the paint finish but you get to a point where you just want to complete the build. Managed to paint the canopy and that proved a lot of bother too. Some of the masking missed a frame or two and then the quarter windows got in the way of the canopy fit. I did modify the canopy to sit better and that may have changed how it usually all goes together. Had that once with a hob and oven. Bought different brands and they wouldn't fit properly together into the worktop. Changed oven to the same brand as hob and both fitted perfectly So with the quarters I had to shorten the length and bevel the edge before canopy would fit. It's not fitted in the photo as I'm waiting for the paint to dry on the quarter frame. At this stage, finish the painting and to do the exhaust stubs, prop, fit canopy and pitot... then decal time -
I vaguely remember those kits, in particular the F-20 as I was looking to build one at the time. Looks like Hasegawa (unsurprisingly) is continuing to do kits. https://hlj.com/product/HSG64753 https://hlj.com/product/HSG64750

Thanks Giorgio, glad it can stay in the GB. This particular Seafire is a bit different from what I'm used to seeing and be a nice contrast.

Wasn't sure about the rules but believe this is ok after seeing the RCN Sea Fury entry... a RCN Seafire BTW the box art isn't it as that's French navy but RCN decals are included.

Airfix Beaufighter (RockBeau) S.E.A.C 1945
Knight_Flyer replied to Vinnie's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
I think it looks alright. It has been said nothing is really truly matt and it's only the weathering that gives it that effect. Even came across a US Army tanker who said all of the tanks he's seen have a slight satin sheen and yes he is an armour modeller. For factory fresh the satin sheen will do.
