Yes fit is good and overall a lovely little kit. But fiddly as expected.

The pre cut vinyl masks are helpful for the pattern and the canopy has a decal for the frame which is a nice touch. Overall I don’t remember there being any issues. I did a build thread on KG144 a while back when I built mine.

Here’s mine fwiw. Hope that’s helpful.

I saw this set (contained both an R-1 and an R-2) in a local store for a bargain price, but is it infuriating to build (especially for someone who has corrective lenses). I have seen the size of these little flying barrels and they have to be among the smallest models I have seen.

I have the A-model kit in 1/72. Not the best quality kit, but I should build it just to get it out my stash. I’ll have make my own masks.

It sounds like Sword rushed this one into production.

Don’t these companies try to build what they make?

I have the same issues with some of the after market cockpit detail sets. Have they actually tried to use their own products?

Great looking build … If I may it’s a T-39 the T-37 was the tweet or dragonfly.

You are correct, I’ve been looking at the academy kit I have earlier and was thing of maybe doing that next.

Very smartly finished. I'm seriously considering building this & was wondering how it goes together.

There are several areas that need to be considered.
the kit provides additional parts that aren’t identified. The instructions would have you build a cockpit from 4 parts, but they provide a one piece cockpit.

    1. the engine pylons have very little surface contact to the fuselage. I used the back of my knife blade to open the slots up ever so slightly and glued from the inside.

    2. the instructions would have you drill thru the front gear leg and add wire for the axle.

    3. the instructions would also have you fabricate struts from wire for the outer main landing gear covers.

    4. the tabs on the elevators don’t fit the slots in the fuselage. Some opening of slots and thinning of the tabs is necessary.

    5. the biggest problem I had, was mating the wings to the fuselage. Some not so minor thinning, shaping, filling, sanding, etc.

There was a few times I seriously considered putting back on the shelf.
Definitely not an out of box build. it made me use all skills I knew.
    I’m glad it’s done!

  5. Check out YouTube for detailed builds.

look for “Lou Dalmaso, or Ken Spriggs”. They both did complete lighted interiors, etc. I think Lou is a better source, but he tends to wander a bit.

I think he develops masks for a lot of syfy models (Aztec Dummy”).

  6. I’m trying to build this now. I’ve only built one other sword kit before.
I worked thru the issues with blending the canopy to the fuselage and getting engine mounts onto (into) the fuselage.
I am now trying to match the wings to the fuselage. It’s like playing “whack a mole”!…..get one side set and the other end pops out. It appears that the front of the one piece lower wing is wider than the fuselage. Could be a lot of sanding to blend.

Then there is the issue of getting the tail planes mounted.
I'm almost ready to put it back on the shelf for awhile.

The only problem I've had with Xtreme Metal has been a reaction with masking tape adhesive from time to time. De-tacking the masking tape by putting it on the back of my hand and removing it two or three times before putting it on the model helps, as does removing the tape immediately after painting. Leaving plenty of curing time after painting (a few days at least) before masking also seems to help, but I'm often too impatient for that!

Even detacking the tape is still problematic. If you do mask, you have to paint and demask ASAP. It may be an issue of letting the paint cure  longer (impatience).

I’ve found I can’t leave any masking on for too long. I’ve ruined several paint jobs by removing the tape and having a god awful adhesive mess. Try removing the adhesive and you end up repainting.
Another note, I tried the AK primer/micro filler. It wouldn’t cure at all. Remained tacky.
All that aside, I love the AK paints. I was able to make the jump to NMF and it expanded my finish options.

I have yet to try Vallejo metallics. I’ve started using the other Vallejo paints and am getting used to them.
