  1. Thank you Ced! I'll be doing my (hopefully) last German Exam on Friday. I should have plenty of time for modelling after that Cheers Jaime
  2. Thanks for the welcome, Pat! While the build stayed in the shelf of doom, I bought a vacform canopy, so it should ensure a good view into the cockpit. I also bought a Master's brass + PE cannon. I hope to resume the build this coming weekend. Cheers Jaime
  3. Hi Craig, Thank you very much for your interest. Now that the kit issues are sorted out, I hope to do a better job than when I started it, because in the mean time I finished a few kits with lots of PE. Cheers Jaime
  4. Thanks Stew! Hopefully I'll manage to finish it this time Cheers Jaime
  5. Thanks Pat! It'll be a pleasure to participate 😊 Cheers Jaime
  6. Hello, A question to the GB host @JOCKNEY Would the following build be acceptable as an entry? It was started four years ago but it's still in the initial stages. I've just done some work on the cockpit. Cheers Jaime
  7. A question to the GB hosts @Procopius @Stew Dapple Is it acceptable to enter the GB with this build? I started it five years ago in the 75th Anniversary of the BoB GB. Unfortunately I didn't manage to finish it and it remained in the shelf of shame for the last five years. The fuselage is still open and there's some interior painting done as well as some detail work done on the cockpit. In the meantime I managed to finish the companion Defiant build. Cheers Jaime
  8. Thank you very much, Paul! You're extremely kind! I was very pleased with the result and learned a lot building this model. I consider it one of my best efforts. Cheers Jaime
  9. I believe the RAF version is a What-if. The story I've read elsewhere is that "Excalibur" was a brand of condoms and the USAF thought it better to change the name to "Lancer". Possibly spurious. It seems the air crews didn't like "Lancer" and called it "Bones". Ken, thanks for the pictures and appreciation! I'm afraid I'm almost finished with the kit, I won't be able to make any modifications to the front area now... By the way, great work on your A-90! I'm doing the same scheme (nº 21, with the eagle on the fuselage). Cheers Jaime
  10. I'm still reading the kindle edition of: I'm going slowly because my German is not as good as it should be... I've read about a third of it. Very grim subject but interesting. There's an English edition as well, if you can't read German. Cheers Jaime
  11. Thanks for the links @Rumblestripe. There are many pictures on the internet of this museum's A-90 and one operational A-90 from the 1990s. I've linked to one or two in previous posts to illustrate a few details. The colour scheme I've chosen is an earlier one from the Soviet era, but very similar to the one used in the 1990s. @CedB this B-1 is as big as a 1/72 Spitfire. The kit is an old Academy attempt and the scale is very weird. The fit is terrible but it looks like a (simplified) B-1 in the end. I expected it to be a quick build in order to experiment with the black primer technique but it turned out to be very laborious. The "Excalibur" name instead of "Lancer" is very strange and I couldn't find any reliable source to explain it (though there are some spurious explanations). Here's the kit box art: When I have some spare time, I'll post a WIP thread for this as well. Cheers Jaime
  12. Thanks Ced! I've been silently and slowly working on it since the last post. The main painting is now done. Due to the usual lack of time, worsened by the COVID-19 lockdown (working in a Telecom company, I'm one of the few who's having even less free time now...) I still haven't updated the thread. I've also been working in parallel on a 1/260 B-1 Excalibur (!) by Academy. A nasty little kit... Cheers Jaime
  13. Finished reading "Das Klima Buch" some time ago. Recommended. I'm now reading the kindle edition of: There's an English edition as well. It's about the last days of Nazi Germany seen from the level of common people and soldiers. Cheers Jaime
  14. I'd recommend "For whom the bell tolls" (set in the Spanish Civil War) and "A farewell to arms" (set in WWI). Cheers Jaime
  15. Thanks for the recommendation. It's already in my wish list! Cheers Jaime
  16. I also didn't know where the quote came from. It was also used in the first edition of the GB. I believe it was @Enzo Matrix who chose it. Cheers Jaime
  17. I've finished Arthur C. Clarke's "Childhood's End" a few days ago. I found it interesting but with an unexpected theme from a rationalist as Clarke (won't go into details to avoid spoilers). However, it should be noted that in the original edition Clarke put a note at the beginning saying that "the author does not agree with the opinions expressed in the book" and in the Foreword of my edition he said even more in disagreement. After finishing that one, I immediately started reading "Das Klimabuch: Alles, was man wissen muss, in 50 Grafiken" by Esther Gonstalla Yes, it's in German but if you master the language it's well worth the reading. I've been slowly reading it and have already learned something new with each graphic. Cheers Jaime
  18. Dear All, The poll is finished and I have the privilege to announce the three most voted entries: 17 votes pheonix: Hansa Brandenburg W 13 1:72 (scratch built) 14 votes pheonix: Blackburn Twin 1:72 (scratch built) 10 votes Rod The Fixer: Douglas TBD-1A Devastator Floatplane 1:48 (Great Wall Hobby) A big applause and congratulations to @pheonix and @Rod The Fixer for the excellent models! The GB is now concluded. Thank you all for your participation and interest. Maybe we'll meet again in a third edition of the GB in the future! Cheers Jaime
  19. That's perfectly fine! The only drawback may be the limited audience you get after the end of the GB. If you think you'll need some time to finish it, you may consider moving the thread to the normal Aircraft WIP area. Cheers Jaime
  20. The Flying Boats and Floatplanes GB poll will end on Sunday, 5 January, at 23.59 GMT.

There are 33 excellent finished models in the Gallery.

Let's show our collective appreciation for the excellent finished models in this GB!

  21. Dear All, The poll will close tomorrow, Sunday, 5 January, at 23:59 GMT. Till now 28 BMers have voted. As there are 33 finished models it is a shame that we haven't at least as much voters. Let's do a final push for showing our collective appreciation for the great finished models we have in this GB! Cheers Jaime
  22. Thank you very much for the kind words, @greggles.w! Don't worry too much about not finishing your entry. I didn't finish mine as well and have a similar awful track record of not finishing anything in GBs... The most important thing is participating, learning from others and build our models to the best of out abilities. Cheers Jaime
