  1. When I did the Humvee & the Tornado, the painting guide had a good camo pattern. Carefully drawing the pattern with a pencil, then I followed the lines with a small detailing brush. Once that was done, it was just a case of filling what was left of the pattern with a normal sized brush. Thats how I did that camo.
  2. She aint asked me to paint them yet, she thinks they look good up there. But the more that go up, im sure somat might be said.
  3. The thumbtacks didnt work as well as id hoped, they went in fine, but they felt a bit loose. I did find an old picture hanging kit lying around the house & found some eyescrews, they went in a lot better & are a lot more sturdy. Thanks for all your tips.
  4. I have the 1:18 die cast version of this & your build looks like it just came out of Brian's garage. Im sure Mr Walker would be very proud.
  5. I bought this light from argos. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9279777.htm It is mains powered, I screwed it underneath my lowest model shelf to provide better light than the room lightbulb, it still needs a plug to be put on. Worked for me so far.
  6. I had a newsletter from spotmodel & they were advertising this product. http://www.spotmodel.com/product_info.php?products_id=20721'>http://www.spotmodel.com/product_info.php?products_id=20721 Is this for general cleaning, or is it the case, you apply this after you have sealed the decals with clear varnish? Also, it states to wipe off after its dry to get the just polished look, but would that be a bit worrying, just in case it might lift the sealed coat on top of the decals? Cheers, Wayne.
  7. Not sure how old my house is, but I can get the white thumbtacks for £1.99 for 100. If they dont work, i'll try some of those hooks with a small wallplug.
  8. Ive been told on SMA forums that white thumbtacks will do it. Not sure, as I weighed my battlestars, Pegasus weighed in at 450g & TOS Galactica weighs in at 350g. Although if I had one holding up the front & another holding up the rear, it might work. My wife likes the thumbtack idea.
  9. Cracking job there, wasnt sure by you WIP if you were going to seat the stormtrooper. But he looks class on the back there, nice one.
  10. Hmmm, I usually use the standard halfords white primer. What finish does it leave? Might be tempted to pick up a can at my next visit to halfords.
  11. If you watch the maskol youtube video It looks like he's pre-sealed before each application. Ive had no problem with canopies, but on top of paint ive had to touch up. Wayne.
  12. As im running out of space to display my models, im thinking about hanging some of them from the ceiling (especially my battlestar models) I have some 15lb fishing wire, which ive used to hang my helicopters on my shelf (if you've watched my videos their in the background) Whilst im not opposed to using normal metal hooks drilled into the ceiling with wallplugs, my wife would rather I didnt. I saw some tesa power self adhesive hooks they hold 500g, but they aint cheap. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000KJMIOW?ie=UTF8&at=&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links Do you guys use metal hooks? Or self adhesive hooks just to keep her indoors happy & off your back? Cheers in advance, Wayne.
  13. Its finale time..... I started by gluing the gravaton deflectors onto the side of the raider, they both went down really well, used a little superglue to help the top edges to hold a little better along with the normal model glue. I then had a slight gap issue underneath the deflector onto the plasma walls, but I used a little putty to fill the gap in. Once dried & sanded the putty, I then sanded down a little on where the tape had taken away some of the primer & then painted the brown base coat & the 3 coats of the No9 Humbrol Tan. Once that dried, I then started detailing. Anthracite for some of the panels, with some purple, green & gun metal. Red, green & brown orange for the gravaton deflectors shaped crevices, which took a couple of coats. With no reference for the belly of the raider, I did some guess work & used the red, purple, green, gun metal & anthracite to pick out some of the detail, it may not be show accurate, but I think it looks good. The Vallejo game black wash I used to do the weathering, after following the method Randy Cooper on Youtube used to weather his massive Star Destroyer, it didnt go as well for me, so I used the wash neat. Not bad for my first time, instead of going for a subtle effect, I have gone all party political broadcast all over the raider, which I think has gone down quite well. Decals were pretty much straight forward, mostly orangey/yellow windows, but I did have an issue with one of the Kazon logos. Revell had printed one of the logos the wrong way round, so turning it inside out, luckily it was black both sides & I overcame the problem, but it need some glosscote to bring it out & as it dried matt. All-in-all im really happy on how the raider has turned out. Cheers, Wayne.
  14. Not bad at all. Those decals have gone down well, never did like the blue michelin livery.
  15. Only problem is now, due to Bandai enforcing these rules, the prices of these kits are gonna skyrocket. Especially as I cant afford to get any till the Telford fair. ATM the prices are hovering around £15-£20, but they will be double that by the time I get my hands on one.
  16. Then I saw this. at 8.40, I literally soiled myself, the Millennium Falcon is 904 parts.
  17. Ive ordered from culttvman in the past & whilst they have an awesome model store, you will have to pay their shipping costs & import charges on top of that. Last year (with my PPI) I bought:- Moebius Battlestar Pegasus & Moebius TOS Battlestar Galactica, which cost me $185 all told with p&p. Then I had to pay parcelforce/Post Office import costs on top of that & at the time all told it came to about £130, so thats £65 each. My wife was not best pleased that id spent £200 on model kits with my PPI, along with those mentioned above I also bought a Moebius TOS Viper with PE & the Belkits 1:24 Ford Fiesta WRC. So dont expect the master kits to be cheap if you buy them from the U.S.
  18. Work continues on the Kazon Raider. My apologies for the 4 week gap from part 1, but I have been quite busy with other things & haven't really had chance to do much work on the raider. Anyways, ive pretty much finished construction apart from the gravaton deflectors which still need to be glued on. They will be glued on once I get a new set of Humbrol brushes, as the set of artists brushes I bought for £2 from The Works havent worked out as well as id hoped. I started painting with the No9 Humbrol (Tan), 3 coats on each side (right, left & 2 coats on the underneath), but as each coat went down, my current humbrol colorol brushes (as they are quite old) started to go really tatty, hence me needing a new set. I then glued the nose to the raised rectangular section underneath, but as I was trying to tape it on with my freehand, whilst holding the nose into place with my other hand, my hand slipped & took the nose with it. Hastily, putting the nose back into place & finally getting the tape around, I noticed the glue had taken away some of the paint, so I left it for 24 hours for the tape to hold the nose & for the glue to dry. Taking the tape off, you can see the slight damage, but after a little sanding it has gone. Gluing the wings into place wasn't difficult, but the one wing has a little more of an angled gap than the other (for some strange reason), but its not a problem. Then I decided to put the 3rd coat on the underneath, I used one of the new brushes that id bought, but once id finished & washed it out with the water, the brush went all puffy & flimsy, which was useless after just one use. Then came the plasma collector walls, the one side mounted with no problems, but the other side decided to sit itself on the mounting tab for the gravaton deflectors. So removing it and re-aligning it below the tab & using some tape to force the small tabs to mount into the holes on the nose, the small crisis was averted. So using the angled brush I bought from Games Workshop, ive started to paint the nose, but with Hobbycraft having no Humbrol Coloro brushes in stock, ive had to order some from Amazon, which should arrive just after the bank holiday. Once they arrive, I will be able to paint the small crevises on the gravaton deflectors & glue those into place. Cheers, Wayne.
  19. Looks like the Ewok is playing "Peekaboo" The scenery is great, a great final addition. Nice one. Wayne.
  20. An awesome finale. Also liking the detachable body cowling that show off the engine & underneath parts.
  21. A great finish there. Does the safari subaru you have come with the engine vent pipe that comes up the side of the windscreen?
  22. I did pretty much the same thing, I resorted to superglue in the end, but it sent the screen dusty white. So I wondered what Citadel Agrax Earthshade would do. Not only did clean the superglue dust out, but it made a dirty weathered look, which I wad really pleasently suprised with.
  23. I like how you cant see the support base rods. Did you use the kit included rods at all? When I built this, I was a bit skeptical about those rods, but they are more sturdy than they look. Also, did you have the same problem with the windscreen plastic as I did, as it wouldnt glue & kept popping out. I also thought the fuel lines should had been a hardened rubber instead of the plastic, which would have moulded better around the support struts on the pod. All in all an awesome result, way better than mine.
