In July, we will be releasing the P-51D kit in 1/72 scale as a Limited Edition Dual Combo. This kit is newly tooled, and it will also be available for pre-sale as the Royal Class edition on our e-shop or through our business partners. The pre-sale will commence at the end of April. Stay tuned for more details on the new kit and both editions in the coming days!

As Pete says, the #4 Thunderbird flew directly behind the lead jet. Phantoms are notorious for their smoky exhaust plumes so what you are seeing is simply the soot deposits from the #1 jet on the tail. Later modifications reduced the amount of smoke generated by the J79 but never entirely eliminated it.

Here's a video of the Thunderbirds F-4Es in action. You can see the deposits on #4's tail at about 5:30:

Nothing wrong with the picture. Number 4 got a black tail from all the soot those J79's produced. It is accurate.

    Thank you.

Didnt expect, it will not cleaned maniacally.

No need to mention about the charcoal briquettes - I'm former Phantom mechanic. 😎😁

Best shots are around 3.15 in here:

Looks like only the trailing edge flaps.

At 7:06 you can see extended speed brakes.
But not clearly visible at touchdown.
But why they should retract them ?
From my time as Phantom mechanic I cannot remember any limitations. But it's more than 20 years ago.

    ФРО абсолютно прав.
На земле основные воздухозаборники всегда открыты, верхние закрыты. Створка опускается и перекрывает основной канал при запуске двигателя, а створки каналов открываются сверху для подачи воздуха в двигатель.

I have never realized or seen a two-piece maindoor.
Is it early, late, ... ?

Something is wrong with the link ? I gave up and stopped trying to load it. Usually Eduard takes about 45-60 seconds to load as it’s a large amount of info. Its never this long however after 15 minutes it had barely loaded anything at all ? Almost as if it was being stopped from loading.

It's working fine at me and my machine.

Thanks for the photo Steve - it appeared while I was typing my reply to Richard.  I'm sure I can make something like that from missile spare bodies.

Maybe the CATM-120 B/C Captive Air Training Missile from Reskit could help you (?).

Yes, that's correct, no decals.  The sheet that I have is from, Ventura decals.  I am sure it can still be found.  MPM released that version.  If you can find the decal from that kit, that might be a source for you.  There may be other decals available, perhaps someone here can point you in the right direction for that.

If you want to do the recon version, Cutting Edge had a sheet for that one, #72068:

    Thanks for information. :)

I guess I will take Revell's U3, which is not correct but has the decals.

And from Print Scale should be possible to do a german U4.
