  1. A long time ago in a kitchen far, far away... A really cool build appeared! This looks cracking Rob, especially with the lights
  2. Finally got this guy through the post! Been looking forward to getting this started, and this is a monster from the Flesh of Gods series of 3D printed miniatures and as such the scale is slightly misleading because he's pretty big compared to a human! IMG_20240309_192150478 by Nick Frost, on Flickr The good thing is as its bigger in size it actually has a much more detailed base than the other 3D printed figures I've done IMG_20240309_193154763 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Had to do quite a bit of cleanup with this guy where some supports needed to be removed and sanded, but he also had a couple of tips of the fins on his forearm missing so I just used some greenstuff to resculpt them, and while I had the greenstuff out there were a couple of small dips on his feet that needed sorting too so filled them over with it as well. IMG_20240310_142153017 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240310_174715863 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240310_140545493 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240310_141043672 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then with that done I sprayed the whole thing with chaos black primer IMG_20240317_190936248 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240317_190950225 by Nick Frost, on Flickr The first decision I made straight away is that I am not painting the rocks grey, I want it to be different but also its underwater so want to give them a croal reef look so instead they will be purple and for the Fishman I'm going to paint him a bright greeny turquoise blue with bright red fins. For both I'm not doing a zenithal blast of white paint because there are a lot of nooks and crannies so I want to preserve the shadow areas as pure black in case I miss anything and there aren't lots of little details that need bringing out anyway. The only thing I've done so far is to mix 50/50 with Night Lords Blue and Xereus Purple and brushed over the rocks as a base coat for the shadows. IMG_20240317_210112058 by Nick Frost, on Flickr So now its underway the next thing I'll do is build up the purple colour of the rocks, I really like the base so for this one I'm doing base first then the figure. Thanks for looking, more soon
  3. Looking good, I really like how its full of life and action but without feeling crowded
  4. Cheers for the interest Alan and the compliments! I've only very recently got into figures myself, and brushing acrylic paint feels really different to what I'm used to, I always used humbrol enamel paint (in thick single coats!) I did dabble with oils many moons ago but never got on with them, mostly down to impatience on my part! Which makes your horse all the more impressive to me in your build. Glad the snow info was helpful, just so you know the snowflakes and ice crystal bits were from The Scenic Snow Kit from Deluxe Materials. Cheers again Nick
  5. I really like the fantasy look of these. Nicely painted and the bases look great!
  6. Cool, great work on this, that final pick shocked me, man it is tiny!
  7. Wow that's a lot of decals! It can feel such a chore getting them on but man they add so much detail to catch the eye!
  8. Really enjoying the details coming together Pete, that apache radar part is always a great kitbashing piece!
  9. Cheers Andy! Yeah he certainly has Thanks Yg, I do enjoy painting leather
  10. Nice work, they look really cool

  12. Finally got some final pics sorted out! This was a goblin miniature from the Flesh of Gods series of 3D printables, I decided to do him with blue skin as a frost goblin and to further that theme I added some snow to the base. I painted him with a mix of vallejo and citadel acrylics trying to paint with the light in mind, I start with the shadow colour and then build up the highlights. Heres a link to the WIP Thanks to everyone who followed along with reactions and comments, really appreciate all interest in my work. And here are the pics IMG_20240308_161440920_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240308_161500100_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240308_161515071_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240308_161526520_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240308_161542186_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240308_161636385_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240308_161739657_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240308_161815356_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240308_161950602_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240308_161847552_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr Thanks for looking, all comments and questions welcome
  13. Thanks for the compliment oileanach, I really appreciate it
  14. Thank you! Cheers Andy, that would be my hope, and look forward to seeing your snowy ideas Thanks Mike! Yeah the more I do nmm the more I like doing it and can get my head around highlight and shadow placement easier, so appreciate the compliment
  15. Finally found some time to upload some pics and update my progress First thing I started on was the blades, his swords have an edge all the way round so I've kept that as standard nmm shiny but I want the flat of the blades to be rusty as if they are old but still in use. So first thing I did was load up my rust colours (mournfang brown & troll slayer orange) and my nmm colours (dark sea blue, stone wall grey, black and white) IMG_20240303_142858880 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Oh and I started off by giving them a base coat of rhinox hide, while it was wet I stippled on the mournfang brown followed by the orange, trying to concentrate the rustyest parts toward the centre as its furthest away from the edges. IMG_20240303_143309282 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then I mapped out where my brightest highlights would be on the sword with a mid grey I mixed with the dark sea blue, stonewall grey and white and then built them up to a smaller and smaller bright point IMG_20240303_143537280 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240303_144738009 by Nick Frost, on Flickr At this point I made a start on the other side of the blade and repeated the previous steps, I did also paint a thin black line around the rusty bit to increase the contrast IMG_20240303_144755243 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240303_145322766 by Nick Frost, on Flickr I did mix some darker grey too to help with the transition from the rust to the metal colour so its not quite so stark IMG_20240303_151414703 by Nick Frost, on Flickr From here I was trying to darken shadows and boost highlights befors oving on to the other sword IMG_20240303_151758221_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240303_191653925_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240303_191701921_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240303_192001490 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240303_192335342_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240303_193930107 by Nick Frost, on Flickr IMG_20240303_194004356 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Time for the base! Now for this I decided to crack out the snow stuff which I havent touched since I used it for a Ma.k sci fi snow diorama MANY moons ago For that I used Tamiya snow texture paint, which I no longer have, but thats fine as I have something just as good which is some white texture gel from an art shop. On top of that I have a big bottle of snowflakes, a smaller bottle of tiny glass crystals that add sparkle and some grass just to add a little for detail. IMG_20240305_163005899~2 by Nick Frost, on Flickr This is pretty straightforward, I just mixed some of the snowflakes directly in with the texture gel for even more of a texture look, then used a cocktail stick to load it on to the base. IMG_20240305_190848244 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Once I had it covered, I sprinkled over more of the snowflakes and a pinch of the ice sparkles stuff, then it was just a matter of cutting a little bit of grass and poking it in. IMG_20240306_164310563_HDR by Nick Frost, on Flickr And with that this guy is all done! I'll take some better pics and create an RFI topic as soon as I get a chance this week. Thanks for all the comments/reactions, I'm always grateful for any interest shown in my work
  16. Really nice job with this guy! Base is top notch too
