  1. Cheers Bob, couldn't agree more! Ive been studying the sculpt, and i think im going to have to move the mouth up, it should be halfway between nose and chin and as hes going to be angry even a little higher. Can't believe i missed that, but its easy enough to correct.
  2. Thanks GMK appreciate the kind words Thanks Will, im so pleased with it, so much so that im not covering the head in any way. Im going to go the whole hog and do his hair and ears too, in for a penny in for a pound!! Done more work on the cheeks and around the mouth, it was looking a bit weird and i couldn't put my finger on why; then after checking reference pictures of faces i realised the mouth was too small so I've widened it and am much happier with it now. I worked on the left side first and in pic 4 i took a front shot to compare the fleshed out version with how it was 20160226_130828 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160226_131005 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160226_131615 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160226_132919 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160226_132925 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160226_134202 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160226_135422 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160226_135428 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Still need to work on matching the shape of the right side to the left, and once that's done I'll bite the bullet and start the eyes (which i so haven't been putting off!!) Thanks for looking, more soon
  3. Thanks fatalbert! Well he'll be getting grabbed by an alien so theres not much to smile about Did some more work on this today, wanted to work on the shape of the lips a little more, and define the philtrum a little better. 20160225_131742 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Also want to build up the nasolabial sulcus more and the area around it, while also refining the shape. Just added some sausages of clay and use my ball stylus tools to blend it in. 20160225_132105 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160225_132223 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Also need to sort out the chin a bit, as its a bit weak and not very defined, so i stuck a ball on the chin and blended it. Shaved some clay off from under the jaw too to make the chin area more definitive. 20160225_133330 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160225_133840 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160225_134117 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160225_134945 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160225_135014 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Im really happy with his profile now, only things i want to sort out tomorrow are to even out the symmetry of the lower jaw, and build up the cheek area behind the nasolabial sulcus. Thanks for looking, more soon
  4. Oh cool,i really like that. I always enjoy artwork where you can see the work, like thick brushstrokes or sculpture like this where they've left the surface rough. Its funny you should share that pick because the ball stylus tools leave this really cool textured finish which i was tempted to leave unsmoothed; but don't think it will suit the overall feel.
  5. Just a quickie to show a little more work on the mouth. 20160225_131723 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Think i need to widen the mouth slightly and have the creases come past and around the corners of the mouth, it continues! Thanks for looking, more soon
  6. Did a little bit of sculpting on my lunch break today. Worked on the nose and mouth, for the nose i just added clay to the nostrils and to the front and blended it round with the ball stylus 20160223_131330 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160223_132816 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160223_133131 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160223_133139 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160223_133400 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160223_133415 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160223_134600 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160223_134608 by Nick Frost, on Flickr The mouth was made by blending in a couple of sausages of polymer clay. I still need to build up the edges of the cheeks a little so i can do the indents at the edge of the mouth and nose. Apologies too for the lack of that many steps in my photos, when im concentrating its hard to remember to stop and take a pic, maybe I'll post a video at some point. So next up its cheeks and roughing out the eyes. Thanks for looking, more soon
  7. Thanks Will, yeah I know what you mean its a bit flat at the minute, I'll work on that when I do the nostrils. I do have some print outs for reference, I even did some scale shots of my own face pulling the expression I'm going for! And I have a mirror to hand too. But I'm trying to avoid making him look like anyone in particular (especially myself, I'm not that vain! haha) I'm focusing on referencing details rather than an overall look, I cant put my finger on it to explain but I want a stylised thin gaunt kind of look like the character designs in the PS2 game Timesplitters 1, but maybe not quite as extreme.
  8. I've always loved the large shoulder extensions on this kit, love the details your adding will follow with much interest dude
  9. Okay so I've got the head to a basic shape I'm satisfied with now, the ball stylus tools I purchased are worth their weight in gold as they have allowed me to blend and detail so much easier. He's got a slight gorilla forehead going on at the minute, so I built that up with some clay and blended it in 20160219_134908 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160222_132255 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160222_132255 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160222_132416 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160222_132750 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And the cranium is more narrow and still slightly pointy looking so I gave him some ear muffs and smushed (?) them in 20160222_132910 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160222_134048 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20160222_134126 by Nick Frost, on Flickr I'm over the moon with how its looking now, this is my first go at a head sculpt so its all a learning process and I'm having tons of fun with this project. Now my basic structure is sorted today I'm going to start adding details, going to add the nostrils and build up the cheeks a bit and work on the mouth. Thanks for looking, more soon
  10. Thats looking great Will, already plenty of detail to draw in the eye
  11. Thanks Knikki, yes he will have a helmet, but not like the picture, going to do a round one that's mostly clear Cheers dude
  12. Nice one, lovely metallic finish on the robot. It also gives me a Forbidden Planet vibe with the pose
