  1. Switching to the fuselage I added the tailpipe, and nose gear well and for good measure, another wheel weight. Gluing the halves and wings together I got everything ready to fill gaps. The panel lines are a lot more delicate so masking tape to protect from sanding is in order. I let these dry for a few days while I worked on other projects.
  2. Here it is a month to go and I'm finally getting around to giving a progress report. I ust hop I can get the rest of these builds finished in time. So without further ado... Started with the office,(Of course) Definitely has more detail than my Heller kit. I did have to print an new instrument panel. Neither of the F-84F kits had those parts so I used the Heller panel as a base and printed out several new ones. From there bits of white and red paint applied with a tooth pick and finished up with a silver pencil to bring out the details a little more. The slabs underneath the cockpit are flat self sticking wheel weights. Didn't know how much to add so I started off with 14g.
  3. After spending the day sanding and re-filling and sanding.. then painting the nose intakes and fin top. The REAL work begins,.. Foiling. Over a period of a couple of days I applied the foil to individual panels and worked my way from front to back. After getting the foil smoothed I added additional detail with #0000 Steel wool to alternate the grain and look of the metal. Next will be the wings and adding the decals before finishing up. stay tuned .
  4. With the hlave together, time to fill gaps.... Masking tape to keep the sanding damage to a minimum. I let these dry for a few days. ( it was a while before I could get back to it.
  5. Once these were dry I painted the box interiors black and used kids stick on jewels for the lenses. It would help if I could get the camera to stay in focus every once i a while. But once those were installed I gave the lenses a coat of Tamiya Smoke to tone down the brilliance of the jewels... and installed the tailpipe.
  6. Well now I think I can get to the point of catching up on these many builds I have percolating here, there, and everywhere. BAd thing is I've had these images ready display here for more than a few weeks. PArt laziness and a nice portion of almost loing what I did have to an SD card that wanted to laydown on me at the most un-opportune of times. But no matter here's what's happened this far.... Starting off with the office,Heeler doesn't have a lot of detail so I added a little bit in the way of decals from the spares box for the panels detail, and the harness is from a 50's jet aircraft belts P/E set. Then boxing in for the cameras. Again the fit only had the perspex covers. but you could still see inside. So cuttin' and splicing was the order of the day. Simple boxing in with plastic card.
  7. Koster 1/48 Dornier Do-217n-1 Nightfighter Here's the first of my builds for this GB. KOster Aero's 1/48 Do-217N-1 Nightfighter. Mostly OOB but being a VAc I did have to manufacture or make some new stuff. Mostly the nose antennas themselves. Those I printed. Some of the decals came from the kit but most from the spares box. As far as paints go, Model Master, AK Interactive, Mig-Ammo, Polly Scale Here's the WIP. Thanks for having a look around.
  8. Thanks Mike, It's an oldie, but a goodie and came out fairly decent I think. Hopefully the antennas will stay attached until I get it hung p on the ceiling. That only leaves 2 other Koster kits in my stash, a 1/48 PV-1 Ventura (I'll do that in the upcoming Navy GB) and a B-17C conversion.
  9. Those and the radio antenna on top along with the antenna wire from E-Z line. The final bit adding the exhaust stains there you have it. Not perfect by any means but for on old vac kit , it turn out better than I expected. Thanks everyone for following along and especially with all the comments and suggestions and usual banter. It really helped a lot at times. I'll have the finals up in the gallery shortly. Now I'm waiting for new decals for the Whirlwind(Guess the reason why) so I can finish that up. Oh the joys of building
  10. The nose radar antennas were too fine to get to stay properly aligned and unbent. So since I got a new printer, I made a new set to see how well they would turn out. The main shafts warped so those were replaced with plastic rod . Part of the antennas I used Thin jewelry wire, This kept its shape better.
  11. Time for the final update on this build. I finally managed to get decals on this bird. It took a bit. Because of the age of the kit(25 years +/-) I was afraid the decals wouldn't hold up without help. As a precaution I gave the set several coats of cleat lacquer and let those dry for a day. In the end it didn't help. They still managed to fall apart while trying to apply them. Idid get the squadron shield applied and the lettering on the side. But was about it. I had to dig in to spares box for some He-111 Decals that were the same size. The to add insult to injury My SD card lost its format information. I was only able to get back a few that weren't truncated. Just not the ones of the decals being applied. So I'll advance to the period After that.. Getting the last of the little bits completed, the upper turret.
  12. STeady as she goes Bar side. Looking Good!
  13. Thanks James, I 'm a bit behind getting my pics tidied up and posted. I'm still wading through all the other builds in the queue. Not trying to sand bag .... much.
  14. Got my printer replacement in yesterday. My old one decided to get a teeny tiny little hole in the FEP film and leak all over the screen. But guess what, what I THOUGHT was the screen protector wasn't. Add to the fact that there were 2 different LCD screen made for this model and nothing to tell me which one fit what printer. after two tries trying to locate the correct screen and finding out they had to come on a slow boat from China at about what it cost me to purchase my old printer originally. I found refurbished M5 with a better screen and more detail for significantly less than a replacement screen.. PLus come with a 2 year warranty. SO I'm back in business! Yippee .I do lose about 5 CM in build height(2 in+/-) I can live with that to from 4k resolution to 12K. Oh, and the first thing I did after unboxing..... make sure the screen protector was added before even THINKING about pouring resin.
  15. I thought it was an error the upper surfaces were a light brown. everything was telling me olive drab which ain't brown, or at least not THAT brown. But it is RLM 80 which it turns out is a browning olive drab. SO that's what I used. You learn something new everyday. That's why I like modeling unique subjects. The undersides got a coat of RLM 76 Lichtblau. At this point I'll let everything dry and then tomorrow add the RLM 81. It's getting there. slow but sure.
  16. Next up pre-shading all the panel lines. The engine nacelles I'll keep separate until I get the fuselage painted. It will make for less mess trying to paint those while attached to the wings. I let these dry overnight.
  17. So since this has very delicate panel lines I masked all the adjoining edges to protect them from sanding and applied white filler. Especially the cannon panel on top. I let these dry for a day or so then I carefully sanded everything down smooth.
  18. The wings gear bay als got their treatment as well. From the outside didn't come out as clear as I would have liked. Matching everything up,most of the fit is pretty much spot on. there are a few gaps, most notably around the cannon access panel. It was designed I think to be opened rather than closed.
  19. The inside of the cockpit area is actually the underside main gear area. So this got a coat of black then when that was dry Alclad stainless steel followed by a dark wash. Along with the underside of the cockpit tub
  20. And speaking of BFG's.... Starting off with the"business end" The 50MM Magazine/gun assembly. Looks purdy, but this is the only time it will be seen. From there the part that WILL be seen the cockpit. Somewhere along the line I managed to lose one of the P/E frets. of course the one with the seat harness and some of the controls. The harness I found an old ME-262 decal set that had extra belts so I used that, the control leavers and what not I made from scrap plastic rod.
  21. But this IS Enzo the Magnificent we're talking about you know.Master of the knife and the surgical arts. Plus a tad "tetched in the haid" What could go wrong?
  22. Dontcha just love it when a plan comes together.
  23. But on the flipside, The B-47 was the first massed produced aircraft to be equipped with anti-skid brakes.
