  1. Airfix QL tanker body on an EFE Bedford TK cab & chassis? There was an old airfix tanker kit but it looks to be out of stock most places. I based mine on this one at Brunty And started off looking like this (well cheap box less & damaged from eBay) But most raf tankers were AEC I think and there is very little to work on with those. Maybe a resin kit
  2. Enjoyable ev ning dry fitting the new F-4
  3. Well the ‘Vark is built, just need to sort out the canopy & paint it (did you spot the ‘just’ in there??), and the toom got a dry fit tonight. Got to love the old ertl & monogram kits. Nice & robust & look the part without being over complex. As for the HAS, not sure how many years the cardboard will hold out. Have the mix & match base boards so maybe a new tougher shell one day. And if building one, why not a couple? I am sure my wife would understand completely
  4. Just spotted this. Be nice to have something similar
  5. The A-10 and Apache are still looking at me from the shelf, but time to look at the next build. Have been planning a uk based USAF F-4 for a while. I wanted a Lakenheath bird, but now the decals are here I am considering another twin bases build. Could be another WR. Now as I have paint for the SEA camo I have a previous build that might get an overhaul. I got an F-111 ages ago - cheap as it had no decals. So I sprayed it grey & printed some Aussie decals. Tried using a sharpie to do the lining too! Actually wasn’t too bad, but if I now repaint it will probably show through, which is fine. Additionally the F-111 has a badly cracked canopy. I tried crash moulding a replacement, but it’s not great. So planning to cut it up and pose it with doors open. I was set to order some decals, but if I build a WR toom, then I could used the LN code for the F-111. Although there are 2 lots of LN decals in the set, so could do both as Lakenheath. Decisions decisions.
  6. Cheers @James B still have a plan to make a video of lights flashing & rotors starting up while posed in front of the HAS. Then edit on the sound from that real start up video that is on line. But then Christmas may get in the way!
  7. Nearing 11,000 views on this thread too.....
  8. Cheers. Yes, still deciding what to do instead of the triple missile rack.
  9. Yes, distinct lack of good ground equipment for the Cold War / modern era. I made the fuel tanker from a die cast Cadbury’s chocolate tanker as there is next to nothing in 1/48. There are some ground equipment sets for 1/72 - Hasegawa do a couple of good sets with ground power units, tow bar, tractor, ladders etc. This is one of them The sets are for US aircraft but may be ok. I think Revell did a Euro ground crew set bu haven’t seen it about. Otherwise check out Hannants for more specialist resin / brass kits. Meant to say, nice work Leo. I got my daughter to make a Hawk with me when she was about 10. Turned out ok and a it is still ‘her’ jet!
  10. Well 1/48 chocks are match sticks with some telephone wire joining them painted yellow. Should work for 1/72 if you make them a bit shorter. This was my 1/48 Hawk with match stick chocks and card FOD covers plus rbf tags
  11. Wish you could have seen me trying to hold the battery pack, the model and my phone. Glad no one saw me in the back garden! Luckily didn’t knock any small bits off until later. Then they departed with an audible ‘ping’ but I managed to find & refit
  12. Well I did finally get the let’s on the seat although it tested my eye sight. Not sure if they are quite right but I am happy with them. And yesterday I had enough time to get the HAS out, with both the A-10 and the Apache. The background picture is actually Bentwaters, so the A-10 felt quite at home. Lights on for the Apache but the doors are open amid the engine hasn’t started up yet. Will do a video of her running at some point.
  13. Sounds like a must see. Always had a great admiration for large sized scratch built ships. Just don’t know enough about them, so stick with kit aircraft!
  14. I just know if I tried to make hinges like that I would: 1) squash the tube flat while cutting it 2) when gluing the tube to the sheet, let glue leak in to the tube or onto the rod fixing everything solid good work & love the paint finish on the case. Looks suitably rustic!
  15. I am quite used to seeing and hearing Apaches, living just down the rad from Wattisham, so when a Revell kit turned up in a local model shop for change from £10 I thought I would have a go. Not the UK version, but the Royal Netherlands Air Force colourful one. So to make this more difficult I thought I would build in some lights and motors. The rotors both turn and the anti collision lights work. It should have port & starboard lights but they failed after the body went together. Anyway, this is how she looks. Hope you like it
  16. My attempt at building a WR tail code A-10 in euro one camo. I don’t live to far from the twin bases of Woodbridge and Bentwaters and already had my HAS diorama, so an A-10 was always a logical choice. I remember going along to a Bentwaters airshow as a kid and frequently seeing the ‘hunting pairs’ of Warthogs flying over. Inspiration also from the new acquisition at the Bentwaters Cold War Museum. Lovely to see one back there. This is an old Revell kit from eBay with a nice resin seat thanks to @RMP2. Thanks for looking.
  17. I think I can get away with the doors open, holding the tail and running the rotors. Looks alright to me
  18. Cheers @JamesB - quite pleased with how it’s come out. Will have to be careful taking any pics of it off the ground as the right side doors are fixed open, and the gpu power lead hangs out of the side. But I will give it a go with rotors turning. However most likely to be outside the HAS on start up. But outside in natural light or in the evening withe the surrounding lights on. Getting it outside could be a challenge at the moment as it’s snowing!
  19. Apparently one of the last in the royal navy http://www.copper.com.au/copper/wcms/en/home/projects/aquaculture/CoppersHistorywiththeRoyalNavy.html
  20. I remember watching that fly on the wall documentary series on the last cruise of the Ark Royal in the 70s, with Rod Stewart’s Sailing as the theme. Then one day my godfather ran in to a bloke who said he did a ‘bit of scrap’ and had just bought the Ark Royal! Aparently he made enough from the copper hull that the rest of the scrap was profit. Love the idea, but wouldn’t it look cool with 3 or 4 Tooms, a small row of Buccaners, couple of Gannets and Wessexes? Like a scaled up UK equivalent of those Tamiya Enterprise flight deck pictures but in 1/72. You know it makes sense....
  21. Well this build is reaching it end. There are more bits that could be done - I haven’t put on all of the stencil decals and I have spotted at least one small antenna on the lower tail underside, but the doors (and door handles!) are on. But there are two likely lads in the cockpit and lots of small bits fitted on the outside. State of play is this: Now need to hook it up to some power and pose it with some ancillary details before doing an RFI. Definitely got tha Apache chunky look going on
