I know I shouldn’t model a model, but this is the aim. It is 1/32 but they don’t do a 1/48 one i suspect mine won’t be so detailed but hopefully the lights will work
-
Can’t believe I have been missing this build Rich. Spectacular and nuts in equal measure, nothing more than we expect from you. Been missing my fix of the Maz so chuffed to find this build progressing. Goes without saying that it looks great so far
-
Depends what you ant. The ESCI 1/48 is pretty primitive, spurious main undercarriage, strange tail above the exhaust, chunky plastic, lots of filler, etc, but it’s cheap & looks like a Tonka, but that backdated Revell GR4 on here the other day was a stunner. Plus the Revell kit gives you flaps & slats etc. My ESCI GR1 & Revell F3 for comparison

My pic of some ground equipment at Bentwaters when I visited, with the NF-2 u it in the middle
-
Was about to start on the second pair of scissors when I spotted these - lamps? so quick chop latter a little oversized, but will nicely hold an led or small bulb
-
Trying out the scissor platform supports in wire. Was wondering about using them yo carry power up to the lights on the platform, rather than dangling a wire down
-
So starting the lighting unit. Was going to use hardwood & cut it with my new toy However it turns out some balsa wood I have is the right height, so sticking some together may work. With a measure up very kindly supplied by Bentwaters Cold War Museum, I started cutting. First go looks like this

Lovely grey green selection there. The Hawk does look the part. I have had a bit of a thing for grey green over the years, but jealous of your bucc and jag. These are my efforts

Revell 1/48 Tornado F.3 ADV
bar side replied to Mr Bowcat's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
More like this @Selwyn? Think the band colour is down to Revell decals rather than anything else -
So thanks to the excellent folk at the Bentwaters Cold War Museum I have some dimensions for the lighting unit. I asked & they went out at the weekend & photographed and measured the NF-2 unit - both the photos and measurements are invaluable. So scaling them down to 1/48 it looks a bit like this So now to find a lump of wood & cut it to shape

Revell 1/48 Tornado F.3 ADV

Think I managed to disconnect one of the pylon pivot rods, but had settled for flaps down anyway. Like the 111 tail -

Nice. Flaps up so you can still move the wings? -
A pair of insects for Telford?
bar side replied to depressed lemur's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
I have found that if you prime, then tape over, apply another coat of prime on top. That will bleed under & seal the tape edge, but it’s the same colour. Then put your different colour first coat on. Got some pretty clean lines that way. -

Watching with interest. I have some history with red & white RAF jets & a gnat wouldn’t be out of place. Looks a reasonable kit so far - I can see why you might add the slipper tanks later. Nice work so far -

Looking good Steve. As to photos, I have had some success with sharing a folder within google photos. As my phone / iPad all auto upload to google photos it means I won’t need to resave them in to another sharing site, just put them in to a album & share it. Only done one so far but it is promising- 784 replies

Not another 1/144 XX1 U-2540 Submarine!

Only just seen this thread. Lovely use of figures and lighting. Makes such a difference to a model, as does your attention to detail. Still getting over that clock face! -
Airfix 1:48 PR.9 Canberra 58 Squadron RAF Wyton
bar side replied to Mikey-1980's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Your 165 is looking good there. Do like them especially in grey green. So not put off & going for another Airfix then? Think it is still the only way way option for a 1/48 GR3. Not entirely convinced by the cockpit size but it looks like a Harrier There is plenty of useful Harrier stuff at http://www.harriersig.org.uk/index.htm -
Does the job for a camo Hawk

Maybe something like this in 1/72 but with 3D doors? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F123109031780

Just been looking & it appears no one does an NF-2 Floodlight Set in 1/48. 1/32, 1/72, 1/144 yes, but not 1/48. So that will be a scratch job then. Might as well make a couple while I am at it. Trickiest bit is making trolley wheels.

Cheers @Kirk - yes took the pic in the back garden & couldn’t get the sunlight & back scene to line up. I was thinking all along that I would do the F-16 next but the Lynx would be more interesting

Quick photo linking test Let me know if you can see this. I put all of my pics on google photos, so rather than uploading them to another hosting site I wondered if I could directly link them. Huge long url but hopefully th setting are such that the pic can be shared
