  1. Looks like I'll have to find some decent plans and try to measure the freeboard at a specific point and convert to the models scale. Thanks both Tom
  2. On kits with a waterline/full hull 2 option should the join be the middle of the boot topping? Tom
  3. Could you use the dense stryofoam(?) type packaging? I nicked som from the packaging of computer parts my son was discarding. Can be shaved with a knife to shape. Tom
  4. Very nice. What are the grey things around the after gun position and superstructure? Tom
  5. That OOB planking looks great. I'm very surprised there's no AM/3D for this kit. I think CMK do/did some U-Boat weapons that might work. https://www.cmkkits.com/en/ships/u-boot-vii-exterior-set-part-i-turret/ But could be a bit expensive unless your considering a 1/72 U-Boat in the future. Still, you can always tart up the weapons with some OOB plastic strip! Tom
  6. You might have to replace the rivets. Are they the right size? Look like 20mm instead of 19mm to me. Alright! maybe 17mm Tom What was that in old money? 5/8" Unless you were using Whitworth. But please don't start me on Whitworth!
  7. Patience, Grasshopper. and maybe...a bigger hammer! Don't forget to put a screen down the center to stop viewing through the portholes. Tom
  8. I've built two of these in the distant past as far as I remember. Is it going to be in a seascape? At anchor or underway? either way I'm sure your build will be a stunner! more recently I've been considering acquiring another and converting it into an 'R' boat inspired by SteveDs amazing 1/48 jobbie. Tom
  9. I'm oohming and aahing about this 'un or waiting for the later war fit of Argonaut. I'd ber gutted if they decide not to release Argonaut because Naiad didn't sell. Love the boxart for Scylla as well. Tom
  10. Much as I'm tempted (been waiting for a 350 Dido for...ever!) I may wait for the later war Argonaut. Trouble is how long will that wait be?; The turret sides 'll need smoothing. Tom
  11. Ned, In the pic of the bridge in the link you posted, what's the equipment to port of the pelorus below the bridge screen? Asdic repeater? Tom
  12. Terry, I think I know. But is the emoji for the 'Liz' of F35 bit? Tom
  13. more “strong & stable” (if that’s not too Theresa May… Definitely not Liz Truss! A bit OT but would an Invincible have been able to handle our F35s? Tom
  14. Did Suffolk receive pom pom directors? I've been looking at (albeit limited) pics and diagrams of her and can't any. Tom
  15. The securing lines make a lot of difference. Nice touch. Nearly makes me want to whip out one of my Coastal Craft MTB's and get cracking. But not too keen on the idea of sitting in the garden cutting and prepping the resin hull to length. Tom
  16. Really coming together. I seem to have to pause and have a quick double-take to identify which ends which on this era of battleships. Tom
  17. Glad to hear he's well. Is their website up again? I thought I had it bookmarked (I haven't) but can't find it with a google search either. Tom
  18. Even worse that bleed under. When you remove the tape and realize that you've put red where the white should be! Tom
  19. There's a hovercraft museum! Suppose thinking about it...why not. There's a museum for virtually everything else. Your right that is a BIG kit! I built (badly considering what's available now in AM and reference) one in my early twenties to represent HMS Smilax my dad's first ship. I had aspirations (don't worry I grew out of them) of modelling all sorts of 72 scale ships. Never happened in the end. Bertie, you'll want to replace the railings if nothing else they scale up more like drainpipes. Tom
  20. Thanks Jon, AFAIK I used the kit figs (and maybe a kneeling one from the LCM III/Sherman kit). Gunthwaite do a range others have used. https://www.gunthwaite.co.uk/Index.html Tom
  21. I remember building this in my younger years. I always thought the Oerlikon looked overscale. Could you do a quick measure with your MicroMaster replacement to satisfy my curiosity? Any thoughts on crew figures yet. Or just the kit supplied? Tom
  22. I've seen WW2 photos (in a build thread here I think) with the shrouded type Lewis guns on an MTB/MGB so either type would be ok. Tom
  23. Have you tried searching fo 'Vickers K' or 'Vickers GO' instead of Lewis guns? ISTR the plexiglass turrets were made by Vickers (A subsidiary Armstrong somethingorother), so Vickers MGs seem to make sense to me. Tom
  24. I think in the first two pics the flare of the bows creates a shadow making the 'light' tone into a 'mid' tone. Tom edit top pic. Forefoot at waterline. There's a lighter triangular patch (out of shadow?). But it doesn't seem to be as light as the 'bow wave' below B turret.
  25. Are you fitting the twin or single Bofors at the stern? Tom
