1. Finished painting the cockpit tonight. I have not done the seats yet, as they can be added at a later stage with no problems. Now to make it all fit and close the fuslage Shaun.
2. Or order a set now from Hannants post free Shaun.
3. Thanks for the encouragement folks, I still seem to have you attention I'm getting well on with painting the cockpit now. Possably have a few photo's to post later, to show what I've done One thing I have notised while painting is that the intrument panel is not 100% correct, there are a few dials and things which don't appear in the reference photo's I'm using. I have a question for anyone else who has used the Neomega Hawk cockpit set. I have dry fitted mine and the tub does not line up with the internal ribs on the cockpit side wall?. To get the rear bulk head to fit, you have to position the tub quite low in the cockpit. It's not going to be a real problem but I can't see why my cockpit does not just "Drop" in. Shaun.
4. Nice Scooter. Those Hasegawa Skyhawks are really nice kits Shaun.
5. Very Nice. Were did you get the markings from, the kit? I've got the CA Canberra TT18 and don't really want to make a 7 Sqn Canberra. I'm surprissed the Model Alliance never inclued, any 100 Sqn markings on their decal sheets?. Shaun.
6. I've done a little more work in the past few days. To make the flap area more realistic I have thinned the upper wing part at the trailing edge to a more scale thickness. Here are a few photo's of the work being performed. This is the kit part after cutting the flaps away from the wing, you can see how thick the plastic skin of the upper wing is from this photograph. You can also see the grinding marks from making space for the resin bay parts. I thinned the wing with a Dremel and a sanding wheel. You notise I have added a thin plastic strip to maintain the correct thickness to the main wing(during this process you will remove the locating pin from the trailing edge). Here is a thinned wing (bottom one in picture) against the untouched kit part. Here is the completed wing, with the resin bays fixed in place. Shaun.
7. From studying the photo's I have, it is just an exhust hole. The pipe bends though 90 degrees to line up with the Gas Turbine Starter located above the engine. Shaun.
8. Nice work so far, Your build is going together a lot quicker than mine. Your method for the main undercarrage bays seems a lot easyer the the resin, I shoe horned into my model. Shaun.
9. Thanks for the info, Derek seems to be the best person to quote, I'll paint the cockpit Humbrol 164(Dark Sea Grey), which I know drys with a nice satin finish which will make weathering a lot easyer. Once it's all painted, I'll matt it down with varnish. Shaun.
10. I've done a quick search and it appears I'm not the only one confused http://www.britmodeler.com/forums/index.ph...hl=hawk+cockpit Looking at photo's does not really help, the seats are Dark Grey, but the side panels and instrument panel do appear to be a lighter colour when you check close up photo's Shaun.
11. Don't think I really want to go , the wife appears to be dragging me to the event along with a couple of weeks around Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon!
12. Can someone please confirm what overall colour grey the RAF Hawk cockpit is painted?. BS number please. Shaun.
13. Won't be able to make Telford this year, got other things planned for that weekend I'll be here http://aviationnation.org/an2007.html The Hawk will taking a back seat for a while around this date. What else has Clive made this year?. Shaun.
14. Nice little shrine to the F-16 you have there. Shaun.
15. A bit more progress today, more small improvments before the main contruction begins. The Hawk has two small vents on the spine just ahead of the tail fin, on the kit these vents have been molded soild. The Airwaves brass set provide a set of replacement vents for this area. The kit vents were drilled out and then prepared to recive the brass items. Here is a photo of the brass vent in place, but not glued in final position yet. The spine GTS exhust will also be drilled out during contruction. The CMK detail set provide a very nicely detailed exhust jet pipe to replace the kit item. This item has nice thin walls to the jet pipe rim and there is also rear turbine detail at the end of the exhust pipe. The kit has been molded with a very thick area around the outside of the jet pipe. To use the CMK exhust you have to remove this thick wall and then replace it with the new resin item. I found an 11mm drill bit drilled out the hole, to the correct size. (PS-this thick jet pipe photo was taken last week before any other work had started.) Here is the new jet pipe test fitted into postion. I also test fitted the tail planes at this stage and found the fit was excellent, nice and tight. This is a bonus, as they can now be left off till the end of the painting stage. Next stage is to assemble the Neomega resin cockpit and then hopefully bring it all togeather. Shaun.
16. The current plan is to build the model as a Hawk T.1A in the air defence grey scheme. Shaun.
17. A bit more progress. In this photo you can see that I have opened up the vents on the rear fuslage. Airfix have molded these soild so it's just a case of drilling out the holes. Tip- the large hole is angled at about 45 deg upwards into the fuslage, don't drill it straight though, at a right angle to the skin-(if that makes sence?). On the real aircraft it's quite common to see fluid leaks from this vent. The small green stuff marks are my mistake, I thought this was a vent but it is really a small window into the engine bay!, The kit has molded the rear plates at the base of the all moving tail fins a little heavy. I've sanded these plates down to (only the part on the right, has been done in this photo) a more realistic hight. I've also removed the rudder at this stage, this is to be replaced later by the CMK resin item. Here is a photo of the CMK resin flap set. This set provides, replacement flaps, a new rudder and a fully detail airbrake bay and door. Shaun.
18. Take a look at this, looks nice. http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=X72076 Shaun.
19. Anyone have a close up pic's of the model? What's the panel line detail like?. Look's like a Nimrod from that distance Shaun.
20. Totally agree, many times I feared going though the resin and spoiling the resin detail. It's a really close shave, if you excuse the pun! Shaun.
21. Hi Gavin, Clive's, Canberra's look amazing. Were does he store them! Do you have any clearer photo's of the models?. Thanks for the tip on the intakes. Shaun.
22. Nice to see we have full scale fixers on here, as well a scale ones Glad you like the model and feel free to add any info on the real aircraft. Shaun.
23. The photo's disapeared from the ARC thread because I cleared out my Photo bucket and forgot they were links to the ARC build. I've replace some now,but not all. http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....hl=Harrier+T-10 The Alitaliane set is quite nice, but you have to work quite hard to get a good result. It's not a drop in part!! I'm still trying to work out an easy way to model the canopy det cord. That's why progress has slowed down to a stop. The Harrier is currently in it's box awating painting of the upper colours, have to get back to it some time. Shaun.
24. Nice build , really looks the part. Shaun.
25. Been there and done that!, and got the T-shirt full of dust. The front bay is a tight fit. Lots of shaving to be done. See though resin and a see though outer skin on the nose, at least it fits now I'll take some pics of the flaps later and put up a picture. Shaun.
