  1. Great progress so far. I would have liked to see the white wash but I'm sure it'll look anyway. What are you using for the mud?
  2. Hobby Boss T-24 Medium Tank Hi Guys, this is one of my earlier armour builds, built April-May 2013 It was build pretty much OOB with just some Albion Alloys brass tube for the MG barrels. I didn't add the missing engine vent cover at the right rear as I couldn't find any reference to work from. Of course, as soon as I'd finished it I found a photo showing it . Anyway, I covered the area with a big pile of stowage and hoped nobody noticed. This was the first build I used Vallejo's coloured primers on and they worked well on this although I've found them hit and miss on other projects. The base colour was Russian green, then highlighted with Kare-Kusa. The turret band and number was hand painted with Vallejo Off-White. Enjoy the shots Thanks for looking Andy
  3. It's a great kit isn't it. I wish I'd picked some more up while they were available. Looking forward to seeing some paint on. Andy
  4. Me too, along with an A and B wing! Who knows what may appear if the new films are a success Here's a few wip shots for anyone interested Thanks for all the comments everyone Andy
  5. That's a great build. The camo is very impressive work for such a small scale.
  6. The silver tinted varnish sounds like it would work, maybe with a bit of black added to darken it? To be honest, I always thought the CG model in the show was too dark anyway. Your version brings the detail out much better.
  7. Thanks for the comments everyone. Much appreciated Andy
  8. Looks great so far. I like the guy working on the Quad wheel. These are still great kits to work on despite their age. Andy
  9. Excellent build! The snow looks fantastic, what did you use for it?
  10. The white balance is on manual set to daylight. That's 5200K on my Canon but the lights are rated at 5500K which leaves the shots with a slight cool cast. Sometimes I'll adjust that in Lightroom and sometimes I'll leave it as is depending on what looks better. I wouldn't say lights are essential but they're more reliable than daylight. At this time of year there just isn't enough natural light to shoot by unless you push the ISO up.
  11. Hi Guys This is Finemolds 1/72 Y-wing completed June 2014. The kit was built OOB for the most part with a little extra detail in the cockpit and scratch built steering vanes. I didn't want to finish it as one of the film versions so went with a fictitious scheme. The paint chipping was done with a combination of masking fluid and hairspray. I'm not 100% happy with the colour choices I made and I'd love the opportunity to try a different scheme on another but of course Finemolds have lost the licence now. Hopefully they'll keep the tooling safe and they'll be re-issued one day. Anyway, enjoy the shots Thanks for looking Andy
  12. Hi Jack, thanks for the kind words I do use a lighting rig but it's quite a basic setup (complete with natty cardboard box as a stand) The light units are five bulbs apiece using 115W CFL daylight bulbs. The whole lot cost me just £75 inc. softboxes and stands. In terms of camera settings these were shot at ISO 100 and f/18 and I got in close with a wide angle lens on the 3 quarter shots, the side on views were a little further back at about 100mm on the lens. There was some post work in photoshop to set the white levels and adjust the contrast. The final shot was composited against a shot of the fields at the back of my house. Hope this helps Andy
  13. OK, so for my second build post something small. This is Brenguns tiny Rammer, so small I thought they'd made a mistake and it was 1/144 but no, it is actually 1/72. The fit was pretty good for a short run style kit but the photo etch is a real pain as there's no indentation for the parts to attach to so you only have the tiny contact patch of the part itself making them very fragile. Still, I managed to get through the painting with only a couple of repairs needed. The scheme is hypothetical as the kit schemes were a little dull. The mottle is there mainly to disguise a rather poor masking job on the demarcation line. The base is just a plasticard circle mounted on a wooden drinks coaster. Hope you enjoy the shots And finally, a couple of shots to show the size better Thanks for looking Andy
  14. Excellent build! Love the simple but effective base. The figure painting is fantastic too. Andy
  15. That's a superb Chieftain! The weathering looks perfect Congrats on a great build. Andy
  16. Thanks for all the comments and kind words everyone Much appreciated Andy
  17. Hi Guys Well, first build post here on Britmodeller. This is Trumpeters rather nice Akatsiya 152mm Howitzer started back in late November and finally finished a couple of weeks ago. This was my first Trumpeter kit and I really enjoyed it. The level of detail was fantastic. I'd collected ref shots to add detail only to find most of it was already there. For the most part it was built OOB but I added a muzzle cover from green stuff along with a tarp on the rear of the turret Hope you enjoy the shots Incidentally, just wondering if anyone will spot the subtle reference? The last step was to add it to a Model Scene grass base set in a photo frame Thanks for looking Andy
