  1. I really like the looks of the T10 and for once it's a kit of a vehicle that was operational rather than another World of Tanks paper project (not that I've got anything against them but it's nice to have real world stuff too) Andy
  2. I'd looked at that Voyager set. It looks nice and the steering vanes would certainly be an improvement but there are quite a few etch details in the kit anyway. The tread plates, while not being as fine as PE, are actually pretty good I don't envy anyone trying to get the etch ones strait and square So, I've got most of the cab done. I've changed a few thing, nothing major and nothing that will really show anyway. I toned the weathering down a bit, not that happy with it but I'll let it pass for now. I re-painted the centre switch bank so that the switches are black on white rather than black on black. It' more accurate to the real console but it's lost a bit of definition and looks a bit scruffy. I twisted some thin fuse wire together, drilled a hole in the back of the equipment box and stuck it in. It doesn't relate to any particular reference but you'll be able to see it through the windscreen and it'll add a bit of visual interest I might add a bit more exposed cabling around the cab, there seems to be a lot of it in there I've also got some paint on the missile. I wanted to keep it quite dark to contrast against the rest of the vehicle and there'll be next to no weathering on it. Shiny and new! Base coat was Tamiya XF-61 Dark Green with a healthy glob of X-22 mixed in I then masked a few panels off I mixed a bit of XF-69 NATO Black into the Dark Green and gave it a few light coats, removed the masking and this is how it is now I may add a few lighter panels too but I don't want it to end up looking like a patchwork quilt and I'll probably lightly glaze the original green over it at the end to tone it down if necessary. I'm going to use the kit steering vanes as is. They're quite chunky but once they're on they don't look too bad but I'm only going to tack them on in case I decide to change them down the line. Hopefully I'll get the cab installed and the body buttoned up in the next day or two then progress may be a bit quicker (don't count on it though ) Andy
  3. Beautiful build. I love to see a Mig-15 in camo Andy
  4. Thanks for all the kind words everyone. Hopefully I'll get some better shots up soon, my monitor was playing up when I processed these and as a result the white balance and tone are miles off I completely agree. They're great little kits, cheap too. It would be great to see more builds of them. I'll look forward to seeing what you do with the Sea Knight and Choktaw Andy
  5. Thanks for the comments everyone Thanks Andy, that link was very useful So, most of the cab is together now. I've toned down the weathering a little as it was bothering me. I'll get some photos up ASAP. In the mean time I've had to give my shaft a quick polish The finish on the missile halves was a little textured, presumably to help mould release. I'm assuming the real ones would have bee pretty shiny to help with aerodynamics so it's had a bit of a buff. Hobby Boss are a little vague about the missile colour, in fact they don't mention it at all, but most photos show it in a darker shade than the carrier so I'll go that way with it. I'll probably mask off some of the sections and vary the tone slightly to give some subtle contrast. This leads me to the only really clunky part in the kit: the steering vanes Yes, they look like potato waffles but, to be fair to Hobby Boss, they're probably as fine as they could realistically mould them. Photo etch would have been better but would have been a pain to assemble. Maybe in time someone will do a finer casting in resin or maybe even a 3D printed replacement. For this build the launch doors will be open but the missile won't be deployed so you'll only see the top two clearly so I think I'll leave them as is. I might just shave the edges down to give the impression they're thinner More soon Andy
  6. Exceptionally well built and painted. Great work. That base is a work of art in its own right Andy
  7. Yes, it is. Small dots of oil, blended in with a soft brush. On the stars I just painted white oil over the decal to fade the red slightlyAndy
  8. Thats a very nice looking Challenger. Great work on the finish Andy
  9. Stick with it Will, you know it will look great in the end. On that round bit with the engraved lines, would it be feasible to skin it with plasticard and re-scribe it or would that throw the dimensions out too much? Andy
  10. Great build, nice work on the camo Andy
  11. Excellent build and really fantastic weathering, especially on the wheels Andy
  12. Thanks for the comments everyone Thanks, the streaking on the fuselage was done with oils which were also used to fade the stars. There's also some paint chipping which is quite hard to see in the photos but was done with masking fluid. You can see the effect better on this close up of the gondola It was sprayed a darker blue, the the masking fluid applied with a sponge, then a paler colour sprayed over and the masking rubbed off. Thanks again Andy
  13. Mil Mi-4 Hound Hobby Boss 1/72 Finally managed to get a build finished this year. It was a nice little kit with reasonably good fit and detail but for some reason I decided to make it incredibly fiddly and fragile with the addition of Eduard's exterior etch set. It does add some nice details though. Hope you enjoy the shots Thanks for looking Andy
  14. Right! I get you now, they're behind the lockers. I was thinking you meant inside them. Those are great shots, I should be able to fabricate something similar from them. Thanks for the links Andy
  15. Thanks Adam. I sincerely hope you don't Thanks Pete. When you build this thing you realise just how impractical it would have been had it ever left the drawing board Andy
  16. Thanks for that Andy. Those interior shots are very useful Are these the tool lockers you referred to? If so then there's no internal detail and the doors aren't designed to open although they could probably be modified to do so. I've now added a few pin washes and a bit (OK a lot) of general grubbiness. Little of this will be seen so I'm over emphasizing the interior textures so they'll show up better. In light of the interior shots on the above link, I may modify the colours of some of the details. The most obvious area is the switch bank in the centre of the dash. Hobby Boss show it as black in the instructions but it appears to be white with only the switches themselves in black. Admittedly it would be tricky to paint which is probably why Hobby Boss simplified it. I might try running thinned white paint around the switches, then again I might not and just leave it as is More soon Andy
  17. Thanks for that Andy. I assumed that was the case but it's good to have confirmation. Andy
  18. Very nice detailing. As you say, blocking off the sponsons is a necessity. I'm sure it wouldn't have hurt Tamiya's profit margin to have added a couple of blanking plates. The one I've got to do is for publication so unfortunately I can't post any build shots but your build will be a great reference when I get round to starting it. Andy
  19. Thanks for the interest everyone Thanks, most of the smaller chips were done with a sponge then a fine brush to block out the larger chips. The colour was Vallejo camo black brown with a little German grey mixed in. It does seem that they've been a bit naughty, probably not for the first time. Out of interest, do the Miniman instructions show the centre seat in the cab facing backwards? I'm assuming this is an error as there's no rear console that corresponds to the seat location. Unfortunately I've not been able to find any clear shots of the interior to work from. Andy
  20. Thanks guys, got a bit more work done on this. The cab interior is base coated in white and I've done some detail painting. I'm not going overboard as you won't see that much. I've added some paint chipping which looks quite stark at the moment but after a pin wash and some more general weathering it should tone down a bit. Main tub The instrument dials came up pretty well with a dry brush so I won't bother with the supplied dial decals Control consoles and other details I'm assuming these posts are entry steps for the crew (entry is through the roof hatches), so I've chipped them to show heavy wear Hopefully I should get some washes on later today. Still got the seats and cab roof to paint Andy
  21. Thanks. The exhaust was textured with putty then painted with rust tones Andy
  22. Thanks for the kind words guys, much appreciated Andy
  23. That's a stunning build. The painting is exceptional Andy
  24. That's a beautiful looking build. Very nice weathering Andy
