  1. Thanks for all the kind comments guys! I'll post some more finished picks soon on the RFI thread. All the best Phil
  2. Hi Matt, Belive it or not? The bare metal on the turret is quite simply a Satin Grey. The post shading (weathering & washing) and then Tamiya Clear, all created the bare metal effect. The scratching was simply achieved using Humbrol Gun metal, painted with a very thin brush. Once dry, rubbed gently with a cotton bud. After a light Tamiya Clear coat to finish. Phil
  3. Thanks Matt, are you reffering to the scratching effect or the Turret sides where the zimmerit is missing? Phil
  4. Hi Matt, your KT is looking really good, I'm eager to see how the rest of your external painting and detailing goes. I've finished my KT for now..... I've uploaded only a few pics on my thread. I'll post more when time permits. Best of luck Phil
  5. I've mostly finished the King Tiger now, I'ts one of those models that i can see will never be fully finished due to the ability to keep on detailing and keep on weathering! I'm in 2 minds about adding mud in certain areas I can go on for months and months with this. But i'm happy with how my King Tiger is.......for now Will I buy the new 1/16 Jagdtiger
  6. More to come.....Tracks go on today.....
  7. An update Weathering, wash, scraping and chipping are go...... Optics and view finders still to go in.....
  8. Yes the Jadtiger does look interesting indeed. Let's hope Trumpeter do it as much justice as the King Tiger. I have been following it on forums but not much info on the interior side yet, particularly the 128mm gun!
  9. All major parts are not glued together. What you see come apart into 6 different sub assemblies Phil
  10. A few more photos, with progress. More exterior painting still to come before the gloss cote then the weathering and washing begins. I'm not entirely sure about the missing zimmerit effect but I think like everything it will only look realistic after extensive weathering, washing and dry brushing.
  11. It will be the half exposed engine version. More updates to follow shortly Thanks Phil
  12. The Zimm is the ATAK version. the hatches were purchased as Torro and Heng Long addons - slightly modified Lots of work still to do on this Tiger 1 it's looking like it might end up being an Otto Carius scheme
  13. A small start to a project I'm making for a very good friend.
  14. Decided that I'd like to make another 1/16 Tank to go along side the King Tiger i'm building on another thread. I did have a go at repainting the Heng Long RC version which gave OK results but i wanted something a bit more convincing. So how about the Hobby Boss offering? Last summer I bought one and slowly bit by bit have something looking more the part. I know there are a lot of additional external details that can be achieved, so here goes.... Opening hatches Unwanted gun port Zimmerit details Engine mount Movable scatter gun Correct vision block with opening Zimmerit and metal spare tracks & Metal tow cables I've also fitted a correct proportioned large gun muzzle for the 88 L56 and I've also made a spring loaded recoil for the 88 in following of the King Tiger. Although the recoil mechanism and other internal details will not be that visible. 3rd hoist point I'm really going for authentic external detail on this Tiger
  15. More updates to follow.... I've also got the quite far with my modified Hobby Boss Tiger 1 on another thread too. Quite a few external upgrades but no internal detail additions. Phil
  16. An update on the King Tiger today. Exterior painting has started! I've gone off piste with paints being used. I've always used enamels in the past but this time i've gone for Tamiya acrylics. I do like how thin and even there layers are, took a while to get the right colour-matches for WW2 German tanks. but i think i'm there. This is the very first paint application. there is still some masking to be done where the missing side guards are and now a lot of detail painting before any weathering can start.....a long process I've removed some of the turret zimmerit too, for a bit of battle damage and also got the tank commander nearly finished. although no face detail yet. 1:16 vs 1:35
  17. Great stuff Matt, I've recently progressed with the external paintwork on my KT. I'll be posting some updates tomorrow. Also made some progress with the HB Tiger 1 too Phil
  18. I've got a NEW P-47D Bubbletop version, if any one wants one of those?
  19. Hi Matt, Loving your build progress! I've made some more progress recently, will post again shortly. Haven't started on the exterior paint yet, commencing soon though. Phil
  20. Hi Matt, I agree the planted-look is quite convincing. I did modify the suspension a bit, hexagonal input links were bonded to the extreme position to give the best trailing arm posisition. The track links could be a bit slack. But only by the odd mm I think. See how it looks once the idlers are positioned? I'm very happy with how it looks so far. It's extremely impressive to look at. So a big "hats off" to Trumpeter for taking the R&D in developing this model! There are still a lot of improvements to be made to increase the fit tolerance between upper and lower halves. I'm still working on improving the radio stack for the internals. The outside painting and weathering will take a lot of time I fear! Not sure if I'm going go for the Budapest 224 or the 300 of the western block?
  21. Hi Matt, Tracks seem to be pretty god tension wise on the default pegs on the idler wheels. Guess it depends on individual play on each pin of each of the 92 links....lucky i guess, it's not too tight and it's not too loose. As for the suspension i'm getting 27 mm Clearance at the rear and about 28.5 mm at the front. not bad i suppose? I get 2 mm compression approx when the tank settles. I've got it built-up Dry fit with all parts on except the MG scatter gun, in order to get an idea of weight. excluding paint of course but i that should only make the difference of a few grams.......I hope? I need more blue paper, This is a big tank! Phil
