  1. My Typhoon turned up this morning Masterpiece of engineering from Airfix, very well packed too! Shame about that small crack on the canopy, guess everyone is the same? Airfix have done a real good job with this Model, truly at the leading edge of model design. I'm sure Airfix will solve the Canopy (Q01) in the near future,
  2. Outsourcing, may be cheaper but always more expensive in the long run! Hope Airfix can remedy this issue for everyone in good time.
  3. Still waiting for my Typhoon from Hattons, Supposed to be delivered yesterday by the dreaded Yodel courier. But guess what Yodel never turned up! I guess that's what you get from Hattons if they are only charging £2. My advice to anyone ever ordering with Yodel is to find a suitable alternative. There track record is not great IMHO.
  4. Hattons sent mine today apparently? Also just spoke to them and they still have stock available that they can send out tomorrow, if anyone wants one for £80 + £2 postage hope this helps....
  5. Thanks Matt, What do you recommend for an enamel Root Braun? I know you can get the Vallejo Oxide prime but that's acrylic. I'm still hunting for MM's RAL 8012 but you cant seem to buy it in the UK, just need a Satin Enamel that's close. Revell #37 is definitely more of brick colour I think. I will try your suggestion, to go more tan in colour for the outside camo scheme. Cheers Phil
  6. Painting has now commenced, although i'm using the MM panzer colour range and not everything is what it seems? Panzer interior Buff - looks absolutely correct and results are as expected. Panzer Dunkelgelb - looks a bit olive rather than sand/light tan colour I've made a home build paint for Root Braun, which looks right although the pictures show it to be a lot more brick colour: Let me know what you think about the dunkelgelb I've also started on the interior detailing, which incidentally will not be visible but i thought i'd have a go anyway as this is my first AFV. comments welcome
  7. Thanks Agent G, Airbrushing has started today with the MM Panzer Enamels. Although Root Braun MM Enamel (RAL8012) is hard to acquire in the UK, so I made my own using Revell #37 as a base. More pics to follow
  8. Apparently so, Try this link: Sky-flash.com/mildenhall/008.jpg Phil
  9. Hattons replied 48h for stock to me, just like Wonderland have done. Lets hope if the Typhoons do turn up, all sprues/parts are present etc? So we will see?
  10. Absolutely, I know what you mean, size and storage is an issue. I've still got the 1/32 B-17G, Ju-88 A4, He-219 and He-111 still to build. But no too much of a problem as there are some collectors I know, I can move them on to. Although the 1/32 B-17G "Sally B" might stay? Just addicted to 1/32 WW2 aircraft......The HK Lancaster is a must too
  11. Hi Matt, Indeed it is, I'm making this 1/35 version in preparation of my 1/16 version. Your thread is a huge inspiration. All my modelling expertise is in Aircraft (1/32 in particular). From what I've been researching weathering and detail painting is key on these AFVs (in & out). So I'm trying my hand first on this KingTiger. I've also got Dragon 1/35 Tiger 1 in the waiting too. Such a shame that the only 1/16 Tigers are the HobbyBoss/Tamiya versions, yet no Trumpeter one with interior detailing.
  12. Thanks, Originally I made a mod to both front drive sprockets and idler wheels, in order for them to rotate freely using mini screws and washers. Then realising with all the wheels and sprockets etc. able to turn was never going to work with Magic tracks Poly caps like Tamiya was the idea but not possible. So a simple mod to revert as per the original kit assembly
  13. This is my First AFV build! I have enjoyed it but it's been much more time consuming, due to all the small parts than i initially thought. I recommend this kit fore anyone wishing to build a 1944 Production version of this legendary WW2 tank. The turned metal barrel for the 88mm L71 gun is truly amazing piece of art in itself The Zimmerit also looks good in this scale, not overdone at all. The only point worth mentioning is that the colour assembly guide provided is very basic and needs careful attention, as not to miss of small detail parts. The Magic tracks are very time consuming and i'm still not sure how well they are going to go together yet.
  14. Here are some recent photos of my 1/35 KingTiger Build: Very nice kit from Dragon with absolutely loads and loads of parts! + Metal barrel and brass shells Construction is almost complete, painting Detailing and Weathering to follow: Photo-etch grills: Steel Wire: The Track racks are particularly fiddley on the turret sides as there are no marking for attachment, just careful and accurate placement. Only one side complete so far. Some of the sub assemblies - immense detail for some of the parts will not be seen.
  15. Absolutely 1st Class work, The AFV add-ons you have picked certainly do look worth wile additions! I'm just finishing the construction of my 1/35 Dragon KT (posting pictures today), Can't wait to see more of this 1/16 build - "Very Inspiring" I particularly like the periscope lens rack Great Work Matt!!!
  16. Anyone who missed the HK's B-25 Mitchell "Glass Nose" ? Will be pleased to know that they are reissuing this kit in October according to their website hk-models.de Google can do a translation into English on this site also. Great News especially for me because I got a real itch to build this and the glass nose is the one I wanted before Phil
  17. Called them, they believe the Typhoons will be in stock later this week. According to them the Airfix stock is still in the Margate Warehouse? Guess they are just getting theirs later than others!
  18. Has anyone received their Typhoon order form Hattons?
  19. Really cant wait for the painting/weathering to start! Looks amazing so far
  20. Thanks for the link! looking hopeful Phil
  21. Thanks Matt, I was looking at the camo-schemes on my Dragon 1/35 KT and they have the Camo scheme we are talking about. You are right, It is subtlety different form the Bovington example. I will try to use the Dragon examples as they seem to match the historic photos of Normandy 1944. I have the book by Thomas.l Jentz Tiger 1&2 Combat Operations. There is a good illustration (B&W) of Abt 503 3rd Company's 300 Tiger 2 - Normandy 1944 300 seems to be the right one. Thanks Phil
  22. Thanks for the info Matt on the AFV forum. The Tiger B at Bovington is roughly the camo/zimmerit look I was going to go for, and I'd like to do Normandy 1944 era. According to most of the photos of Abt 503 the 3 colour camo is present with an without zimmerit in 1944, hence the change over Do you think the Bovington Tiger B is accurate for Normandy 1944 Abt 503? Thanks for all you help Phil
  23. I am going to go for the Henschel turret for sure, not the Porsche. I have the ATAK Zimmerit set which I was also going to use, in conjunction with the 3-colour camo scheme of Hungary 1945 "Abt503" or something similar. Need to find the right time/period/theatre that uses the zimmerit and the camo scheme I would like to use. Are you going to be using acrylics or enamels? I'm undecided, as I have the paints for both mediums. Best of luck with the rest of your build
  24. Any news or updates on: - 02419 Trumpeter "1/24 Fw-190 A6/8" ???
  25. The Airfix 1/24 Fw-190, needs a lot of work, the dihedral on the wings is way out for a start. If you look on the web and look for completed build you will notice the Hasegawa versions all look accurate in scale but conversely the Airfix 1/24 versions all have droopy wings! This is a real shame but can be remedied if you put the time in. Hasegawa are also very expensive for what you get. The Engine construction is 5mm too long on the Airfix Fw-190 too. There are plenty of threads/forums relating on solving this fit issue. Airfix have re-released the Fw-190 but I'm not sure they have addressed any of the issues? I recently did a commission build on Airfix's 1/24 Spitfire, this would have had almost no dihedral also, but some careful bonding after filing will correct this. I've always believed that irrespective of detail the geometry and symmetry has to be right first, if you want anything to start looking realistic. I am also waiting for trumpeter to release their 1/24 Fw-190 A-8, Does anyone know when this will be? Hope this helps
