1963 EE Lightning F.1 111 Sqn Airfix 1/48
Jackster replied to Jackster's topic in In The Year I Was Born GB
Finished pics in the RFI section, thanks to all for a very inspirational build subject, will definitly meet the deadline next time! Cheers Kev -
This was going to be my first GB entry in the Year that I was born group build. Time ran away with me and I never managed to finish on time, but here it is at last. This is my fourth model since returning to modelling after a gap of thirty odd years. I really enjoyed making this and found the kit a very nice build. It is my first attempt with an airbrush, first all metal finish and first go at using a Flory wash. The kit is straight from the box, added detail to the seat using wire and foil from a wine cap. Thank you to Paul J for the 111 Sqn Decals Lots of lessons learnt and a very enjoyable experience. Cheers Kev

How about 8 1000lber's on twin store carriers?

I found these, they are GR4, but most of them would be usable I think? https://www.fantasyprintshop.co.uk/shop/euro-decals-tornado-gr-4-stencils-ed-32118/ Cheers Kev

1963 EE Lightning F.1 111 Sqn Airfix 1/48
Jackster replied to Jackster's topic in In The Year I Was Born GB
Unfortunatley I am not going to get this finished for the deadline. Where does the time go? I have learnt an awful lot from taking part though, my first group build, my first use of an air brush and first all metallic finish. Have just ordered Flory wash to add to it. Thouroughly enjoying the build and will post pics on completion. Thanks for letting me take part. Cheers Kev -
Hi all, for my entry I have chosen a Lightning of 111 Sqn at RAF Wattisham in October of 1963. The connection is I served on 111 Sqn at RAF Leuchars in the 1990's and this is what they were flying the year I was born. I have chosen the Airfix F1/F1A kit in 1/48. It is a big box Also going to be a bit bigger than I thought it would be. That's an A3 mat. But not as many pieces as I thought. I intend to build out of the box, apart from the appropriate decals, kindly offered by Paul J, thank you very much mate. Cheers Kev

Hi I have entered the year you were born GB and have been unsuccessfully searching for 111 Sqn decals for a Airfix 1/48 Lightning F1. The kit A09179 has markings for 56 sqn 74 sqn and Lightning training sqn. Willing to swap these for some 111 Sqn decals or purchase outright. I know that Flightpath produced the following set but have not been able to track a set down. RAF Lightning F.3 Decal Sheet 23, 56, 74 & 111 Sqn Flightpath - Nr. 1/48 - 1:48 Any suggestions greatfully received Cheers Kev

Can I jump on board with an early 90's 111 Sqn jet? 1/48 either Revell or the Eduard if I can get one. Spent five very happy years there, have been planning a tribute. *Eduard kit ordered, will be doing HH as in my avatar pic.* Cheers Kev

Looks fantastic, I thought the one looking through the canopy was a real jet! Excellent cockpit! Cheers Kev -
Brilliant job mate looks fantastic, Noddy caps came off the last thing after engine start so that the seeker heads are stabilised.

Another who identifies strongly with your intro. I have just returned to the hobby and forgot how much I enjoyed it in the first place. I find the whole process really satisfying and very calming. Really enjoying following your build, thanks for sharing. cheers Kev -

Excellent job, lovely Chinhook, well done! -
excellent result, lovely looking F3

The streaks underneath are realistic, can be a bit redder for the hyd oil that leaked. Have seen swirls on the fin where the linies have tried to clean it off using kimwipe and avtur 🙂
