  1. Blimey, lovely! Nasser himself would be proud of those paint jobs! I love the cloudy background, I feel like I'm in the sky with the lads!
  2. Thanks, lads. Just felt like it was better to stop until I was back in a situation where I could really get myself into it than try to do a rush job with a less than ideal setup. For example, this aircraft needs to be NMF. And I have lots of Alclad II paints. But I don't have a window that opens properly in my modelling room, so I'm very, very hesitant to use Alclad or any enamels. Stuff like that. So I will exercise a bit of patience for once in my life and wait until I move this autumn, but I probably won't have things setup for modelling again until early next year. That's just how it goes sometimes.
  3. Yeah, I wish this GB was "indefinite" instead of time-limited. Lesser built air forces are the bulk of what I'm interested in, and real life has not budgeted me much (any) time for modelling this year, unfortunately. But it's in the stash now. It'll get built eventually. In the meantime, I will live vicariously through yours!
  4. Unfortunately, Tom, this became a casualty of the dreaded "real life". This new job, while I like it, keeps me very busy! Eventually I will build this, but it won't be for the LBAF GB, alas. I'll have a mod move it out of the GB subforum into the main WIP forum when I finally get started on it, but that won't be until after I move, so probably early 2016. I want to do it justice! I might try to do the Trumpeter Mi-8 as the C.C.72 (I think it was something like that) but it was a lot more complex than I expected. Still, I may have a bash at it this weekend! I like doing things right, however, not quickly. Probably going to just lurk and watch everyone else's fantastic work for the rest of the year. All of the modelling gear and the stash is going to have to go into storage later this month, anyway! **EDIT: Oh, and that saw I posted in my previous post was garbage. Caveat emptor! What did I expect for $7 from Hong Kong? I have since purchased the UMM-USA 20th Anniversary edition saw ... night and day difference!
  5. Florida and Ontario, I can think of much worse places in which to split a year! I'm no fan of Florida, though. Even in the middle of a Moscow February, I don't ever remember thinking, "Gee, I wish I was back in Florida." Bit sick, I don't deny it, but that's the way I am. I do remember getting a bit depressed after not seeing the sun one time for over a month during that Moscow winter. I definitely wasn't used to that. I think my then-girlfriend had disappeared off to Siberia claiming a "lost passport" during that time, so it may have contributed. Ah well, it was a decade ago now. I've been bloody busy at work, but it's going well at the new job, so I cannae really complain (sorry, I'm dropping into Glaswegian because I had a few pints with my mate from Glasgow tonight ). Glad you lads are keeping up the work in my absence! It really is nice to "model vicariously" until I get myself sorted out again on the hobby front.
  6. Very, very nice. I always loved doing dioramas like this.
  7. Ruddy hell! That is an amazing conversion of an older Airfix kit, mate. WOW.
  8. Can't believe I just saw this today. Cracking build on a plane I was previously unfamiliar with! I love this GB, but it's led to me spending much, much, much more time looking at everyone else's threads than working on my own build (which is dead in the water, alas). Hardly a waste, I'm learning so much!
  9. Starting to look like a Sukhoi. Can't wait to see more progress!
  10. I won't be working on the P40 today, but I did make a little progress on that Turkish NF-5A (what a bloody awful kit, it actually seems worse than Academy's MiG-21 ). My back started hurting while sitting on an un-padded bench in a Mexican restaurant having lunch with dear old Mum (bless her). Gonna fiddle around on the forums and catch up on some iPad games and hopefully it'll clear up but my modelling bench stool is hard plastic and the back just wasn't having it. Maybe go for a walk later - it's almost always sunny in Florida but usually it's accompanied by 95% humidity and blistering hell-heat (even in March). Today is cool and lovely, though!
  11. This is gorgeous! Fantastic work on a very challenging camo pattern, and as a fellow Arab (and African) Air Forces enthusiast, I am really pleased to see such great work on one!
  12. Blimey! Your talent in scratching and detailing, particularly in 1/72, is awe-inspiring! Will definitely be referring to this thread when I eventually tackle my IAR-80, which needs pretty much an entirely new radial engine.
  13. This is fantastic. Can't wait to see more progress of such a unique subject.
  14. That "weiner dog" is too cute! Hopefully these threads will inspire me to finish off my P-40B this weekend. I really haven't had any excuse not to finish it so far except I just haven't felt much like modeling recently. Snapping that gear strut on the F9F-2 really took the wind out of my sails (and mounting crises at work - but I think those finally ended yesterday with a major finale in which all of our hosted services went down for nearly two hours). Thank you for all the encouragement, mate!
  15. Oh cheers, Steve! Just grabbed both series off of an "enthusiast community," shall we say, of which I am a member. Grabbed "Muck and Brass" S1 while I was at it. "Mel Smith stars in a rare straight role as Tom Craig, a shrewdly opportunistic property developer progressing from nowhere to provincial tycoon in this memorable and still highly relevant drama from ITV Central Television. Centred on age-old themes of corruption and power politics, the series' hard-edged realism and trenchant humour made it a huge success on its original screening." RIP Mel Smith! **EDIT: And with Vic Reeves as the dad as well! Brilliant. I'm going to enjoy this!
  16. Hey Tony, can't wait to see more progress! My F9F-2 suffered a broken critical part, so it's on hold. Might get started on my 1/72 Lightning this weekend.
  17. What's the consensus on VMA for RLM? That's all I've used it for so far. Big, big fan of AKAN so far. I like the Humbrol colo(u)rs quite a lot but they spatter like a so-and-so when sprayed through my Iwata Neo .35mm. I guess I'll have to invest in Gunze paints one of these days but not until I move into me own place later in the year! And for my characteristic going well off-topic about comedy shows, I just started watching Dinnerladies (1998). Ruddy hell, those Northern accents are marvelous. Shame there aren't more shows with Geordies in them. When you've already watched Auf Wiedersehen, Pet about 10 times and burnt through Monkey Trousers, you're pretty much out of Geordie comedies! What an absolutely smashing accent they've got in the Northeast. Champion!
  18. Blimey, Radar, that turned out great! Well done. I envy your work ethic. I just don't have that in me. Much, much too severe attention deficit problems to finish anything (other than meals) in a single day! Homer, I will definitely be finishing this off someday. I shall never surrender!
  19. Blimey, I go to work for 10.5 hours and look at everything I missed! I really must try to skive more while I'm at work. Plenty of time for that after my probationary period is over, I suppose. And I found out today that we only get two weeks paid vacation ... but there is a silver lining. After three years, it goes up to three weeks! I think that's pretty fair for the US, particularly in a vehemently anti-union "right to work" state like Florida. Could almost manage an entire World Cup without taking any unpaid leave. And yesterday, my Swedish mate (internet pal) says to me, "Oh, I only have 41 days of paid vacation left this year." I wanted to smash his bloody face in. As a Manchester United supporter with several Lancastrian friends, this brought a very large smile to my face. Thank you, sir.
  20. I was also terribly disappointed by "Y2K". Literally nothing happened. I stayed at home to enjoy the three weeks of broadband I had before the world ended. Loaded up all my magazines for my assault rifles (this is America, after all) for when the inevitable looting and apocalypse began. And my dad had to work overtime (at Kennedy Space Center, which is pretty cool) on night shift, so I had to protect mother. Instead I ended up playing Rainbow Six until the small hours when literally nothing at all occurred. I had recently been laid off from a contract position to make a bunch of PCs "Y2K compliant". I later found out that this particular firm made a practice of laying off contract employees the instant their task was fulfilled, and almost never hiring them permanently, and what do I go and do? I go and work for the same company, on a contract, in 2010 ... and surprise, surprise! They did the same thing to me after five months (which also meant I was ineligible for unemployment benefits! Isn't that fun?). And that job in 1999 actually paid more than the job I did for them in 2010! I make quite a bit more now, but that didn't begin until recently. So I hear you, buddy! I always thought, post-Y2K that is, that I'd already be in Europe. Doing a job I actually liked. Living a life that made me happy. But none of that ever materialized. Do I concede defeat since I just turned 35? Is it time to look at buying a house and just try to visit Europe every few years instead of trying to live there? I guess no one can answer those questions except me. Not very pleasant to think about, though, so I ... tend not to. Also, get a box of these. They're what I use. Cheap, effective, can't smell Tamiya rattle can paint or primer through it. Or splurge on this, but it's sort of useless for me since I wear a full beard. I've grown quite attached to it (pun painfully intended, of course).
  21. Yeah, it was just frustrating. I didn't actually throw it into the closet (or the bin). Gonna bash together that NF-5A (not E as I previously said) quickly over the coming week. There's very little detail to it. No cockpit to speak of. If I can just keep from snapping the gear off I should be able to construct the thing in a few days. I've got another cheapo from PM Models after that as well. Pretty much just paint mules, which is fine. I need to cut my teeth on some easy minimally-detailed ones anyway.
  22. Well ... we would indeed. I don't have any spare gear in the stash.
