  1. I hadn't seen the sprue until now and was planning on getting this boxing to at least chop and change the correct bits.

It looks like some early 2000's low pressure mould.

Luckily I already have the relevant decals in the stash so I'll just pick up another of the first release Vulcan if / when res kit or similar get around to doing the parts.

  2. I'm no fan of raised rivets and the amount that there would be on a 1/48 Sea King would make it a nightmare to build. One slip of a knife / sanding stick, the slightest glue mark or paint issue and you're destroying those rivets to fix it. Not to mention trying to get decals to bed down over them. I much prefer the route Airfix has taken and for those who do wish to cover theirs in rivets a quick blast with filler primer and sanding back will fill them, leaving a clean canvas for archer rivets to be applied. Trying to sand back raised rivets and then having to scribe is my second most loathed activity of modelling (my first is rigging)

Very interesting to see that all four schemes are of XV666 - I only ever saw it in the Heli Ops Scheme so the first of my two will be that one. The second, well there's the very nice old Model Alliance Ark Royal sheet in my stash with two very nice Blue examples of Westland's finest.

Does anyone want to buy a part built Hasegawa HAR.3? 😂

Glad to hear this as I'm going to have to use this service also! Kit arrived yesterday and all looked good on initial inspection. However, tonight I was giving the sprues a wash and noticed that I've got a short shot on the starboard rear fuselage/fin part (A7). The small intake half on the leading edge of the fin is missing with a curved deformation in the plastic running down from it.

Disappointing but hopefully Airfix's customer services will be top of their game!

They replied to me really fast, but did ask for some photos of the parts, hence the wait as I was only able to reply at the weekend. I got an email Monday morning to say the parts were on the way :)

Have you contacted Airfix to report the problem? At present, there do not seem to have been many other reports. I'm sure if you report it, they would be able to replace the offending sprue.

As of yet, no, but I wanted to see if anyone else had a similar issue.

  5. I have a short shot sprue B 😭

Mostly not an issue as I can repair the nose gear bay, but my intake trunking is not really useable,so I'm thankful for the intake blanks. Two out of the right airbrake parts are short shot, but I don't plan on having the brakes open on this build  I have two parts B26 and B27 which are just blobs but I haven't trawled through the instructions yet to see what they are for, but they are easily replacable.

A bit disappointing that short shot sprues have made it past QC again.

    Did the drop tanks change?

I've always been under the impression there were two (three if you count the SAAF) types of drop tank - the original type and a later modified version - I've always found it difficult to tell from photos, but first remember reading about it in relation to those that were fitted to the Gulf War aircraft.

As a B photos show XW527 as having the RAF arrestor hook housing with the flare launchers , this housing is not included with the kit only the FAA version.

Does anyone have any reference photos for the differences between the two types of arrestor hook bay please?

  8. I think I've made my choice - S.2B XW527 of 15 sqn RAF Laarbruch, Germany, May 1972

Fresh off the production line as an early S.2B before the bulged payload bay was fitted.

In this condition it had camo topsides with a grey belly, had hi-viz roundels and fin flash, white XV and serial, with black underwing serials.

I have decals for XW526 in this condition but that crashed with two fatalities, so a simple number swap avoids that and matches the serial of a surviving cockpit in Italy.

  9. I was on the fence about this kit due to the price and the fact I have two of the old tooling in the stash... and then I saw the Britmodeller review and ordered one straight away 😂

Apart from the obvious bulged payload bay, what other items would I need to repurpose from one of my old S.2B kits to make a late RAF or Gulf war example?

Reading the posts here, I think I will tell my friend Jiri from Infinity Models that it will be better for him to cancel the 1/48 Marauder project.

I'm sorry but build reviews just don't lie - especially ones where the modeller has had to cut the canopy pieces up to make them fit. I really hope the Vampire and the Japanese pair currently being worked on prove to be a massive step up in build / fit quality - if they are (and infinity decides to use alignment pins for the fuselage), I expect a Marauder would be a very good seller.
