  1. 20/80 Water:AKAN It's also what AKAN themselves recommend. Alternatively try their thinners.
  2. Just spotted this thread. Just wanted to say to anyone who may be reading this... I would absolute 100000% recommend avoiding Mig primer as much as possible I recently accidentally purchased it instead of the AK one. It was about £5 for a small roughly 100ml bottle. When I sprayed it, it seemed too thick instantly, so I barely used it and added some thinners. I added vallejo thinners, as on the back it said "We recommend you thin with out acrylic primer!" Knowing that I've never had a paint go wrong with vallejo thinner, I tried it. It instantly went blotchy and was useless. Cleaned out my AB, used some Mr Color Levelling Thinner Same thing again, blotchy which rendered it entirely useless with huge air bubbles. Next up came Tamiya X-20A, same thing. Tried Cellulose thinners... guess what? You guessed it! Blotchy! Next came IPA, tried 70% and 99.99% concentration. Have you worked out what happened yet? Got it in one! I then tried Utiimate Modelling Products thinner - Usually think this stuff is pretty crap; I was getting desperate by now though. Same thing... I had dwindling supples of stuff to try. Probably the least used thinners in my range followed: Vallejo AB Cleaner Humbrol Acrylic Thinner Water Alclad II AB cleaner Ultimate Modelling Products Cleaner Diall paint Cleaner Odourless Turps AKAN Acrylic Thinner (I even stooped to the level of Vallejo brush restorer!) None of the above worked Bearing in mind, this took me hours and I was slowly losing the will to live by about 3 quarters of the way through... I never did find anything that helped, so it went straight in the bin the very same day I got it. Don't mistake this for the AK one; they're polar opposites. The AK one is far and away the best primer I've ever used, the Mig one was a big fat fail of a primer, which honestly should be taken off the market. Also, the MIG one was also tried on different plastics, at different pressures, and even I used a brush at one point. Utterly useless.
  3. Hey, what colour did you paint your seatbelts? I can't find any info on the internet about it except references, and all the tamiya paints are nowhere near the colour I can see//'. ] Thanks
  4. Yes, it will melt plastic slightly but not if you're careful - a cotton bud dipped in an the excess dabbed off on kitchen roll and you're fine, just sweep quickly. Alternatively, Mr Color (Levelling) Thiner is also cellulose thinner based and doesn't melt plastic whatsoever. If all else fails, you can use Methyl Ethyl Ketone.
  5. I'm amazed nobody has said cellulose thinners? I use the Rustins stuff and buy it in huge metal containers for about £13 a pop. It's my most used product to be honest; nothing cleans airbrushes as well as cellulose thinners. I've yet to come across something it can't shift.
  6. MEK scares the crap outta me! That thing has a health risks list nearly as long as the bible!!
  7. I too vote for the blu tac, however I do 5 blobs of it (1 in each corner and 1 in the middle)
  8. Tamiya is thinner, it also definitely isn't the same as liquid poly builds up on brushes and (quickly) destroys them.
  9. Im looking preferably for a quiet one. Any ideas?
  10. Hiya, sorry I hijacked your thread! I am also no rivet counter, I don't have the time, energy or money to let a tiny flaw in a kit cost me £20-40 photoetch and resin or make me not buy a kit. I'm happy if I have fun, enjoy the build and it looks good! The book I have has very few (helpful) references really, which is a shame considering it cost me £12 for 2 pages of references and a short walkthrough of the entire build - bit disappointed really; I won't be buying ADH Publishing books again. I will, however, buy this kit again! Absolutely fab! Anyway, these are the references I have, which only show that the wing structures are definitely that interior/cockp green.
  11. Thanks guys! It was my last day of the holidays today so probably no more modelling for a little while:( This is actually going to be the first ever aircraft I'll have completed - I am new to the hobby and I'm really not very good. I've only ever completed a couple of MBT's/AFV's. I've started and got half way through too many kits though, lol. The framework isn't complete yet, any suggestions/advice? Always much appreciated. Here's what I've done so far (chronological order) Alcad Gloss Primer Alclad Aqua Gloss Alclad Polish Aluminium Alclad Dull Alum Alclad Dark Alum Rubbed on some True Metal in some areas (only a tiny amount!) Vallejo Chipping Medium Tamiya XF-71 Cockp Green (I originally was going to keep it NMF but my ADH book "How to Build the 1/24 Airifix Typhoon" says to paint it cockpit green... so I took advantage of my Alclad base!) Used Water for chipping (massively over-did it!) Dry Brushed Mr Metal Aluminium over some areas to liven it up (the Alclad base was a bit too dark) Vallejo Acrylic Umber Wash in small corner Winsor + Newton Indian Ink Wash Humbrol Rust Wash Dry Brushed (About to do) Vallejo Matt Varnish I've massively over done it imo. I hate it; I always try and over-perfect things and end up over doing it and I don't like the end result. Any tips guys? Thanks! Also, if anyone needs any references or parts - I can take a couple of photos of the new book I bought on how to build this baby. Also, as someone with chronic back and foot pain, I rush a lot of things sometimes because I have to bend over and it kills me, so that makes it even harder lols. Pics (they do not do it justice AT ALL, btw). Pictures make it look even worse! lol I'm also regretting not getting rid of those ejector pin marks, they're absolutely horrible now.
  12. What electric tools are you guys using for this? Also, is it wired? Thanks
  13. I too am currently building this. I've noticed that some parts are actually a bit too short; did anyone else find this? I've spent absolutely ages building the framework in the cockpit (been working on it 5+ hours a day since christmas... got over 15 different layers in there, and I'm still not happy!) and either a few parts are too long (easy fix), or others are too short (impossible to fix) Other than that, I'm loving this kit; especially the plastic. I absolutely love this soft, super flexible plastic. At least now I'm not constantly worried that it'll crack. Also, it absolutely loves Tamiya Extra Thin, melts it down like a dream! Oh, and except for the moulding seam lines absolutely everywhere.
  14. As a huge fan of Mig + AK (except for their extortionate prices on some items...) I spotted that they do a decal solution now. I'm really surprised, considering this is one of the modelling markets that is absolutely flooded already. Anyway, does anyone know if they're good? I'm umming and ahhing over to get it or the Daco version, or possibly the Gunze one or the AK one.
