  1. The painting begins! I've managed to make my self-imposed deadline of getting the basecoat on before Christmas, and I should have some of the details and decals done by then as well. A basecoat of black for all of the pieces. Shown here is the main body. I began painting the cockpit, starting with a basecoat of leadbelcher (Citadel) I then built up a black layer with several thin coats, in order to give it a metallic effect. Then I added some metal wear highlights and painted the buttons and radar screen. Unfortunately most of them don't show up very well in these photos, but every button is highlighted to some extent. I'm still deciding how to highlight and weather the main body, so any suggestions or tips would be vastly appreciated!
  2. My first photographed build! I don't think a kit review has been done of this one, so once I've finished assembly I'll post one. This is my progress over the last three hours. I made the awful mistake of getting too engrossed and forgetting to take progress photos, something I'll avoid doing tomorrow. Being a Russian kit, the instructions were in Russian, but were helpfully laid out with confusing diagrams. A side shot of the main body of the helicopter, assembled separately from the cockpit. Note the quite sharp recessed panel lines. A top shot, giving a nice angle on the rotor blades, and some more of the detailing. This image also gives away the true nature of my black background. There is, unfortunately, one problem with this kit. A problem which I somehow missed during test fitting. A rather large void is present either side of the rotor support panel, a void for which filling panels do not seem to be provided with the kit. I'm currently debating whether it's worth cutting then re-gluing the rotor shaft to allow me to fill the hole. Hopefully I should have the build phase done within two days, giving me time to get basecoats on before Christmas day!
  3. What I'm really sensing from this thread is a thorough rejection of a Beaufighter, especially in the 1/72 scale. On a more serious note, I'd hope to see the following, all in 1/72 scale. Hawker Fury Fokker Dr.1 Caspar U.1 Kitty Hawk An additional 1/24 Kitty Hawk would be fantastic. Only two days until all my hopes are dashed.
  4. Would attempting my first 1/24 scale inbetween filming and camping be a terrible idea? Yes? Perfect! Give me a few days to consider, and then I'll confirm my plan. I fear I have missed a rules post; if I have done so, I apologise, but I must ask. Are dioramas accepted?
