  1. Wow.This is going to be a beautiful MD-11 when finished.Awesome work.
  2. Aha,I see.So AZmodel ripped of the FLY kit.Learned something here Thanks for the info on this.Saves me the trouble of getting one of those FLY kits
  3. Thank you. I used Testors silver with a light dust of testors aluminium for the engines. Then a light coat of Testors metallic sealer
  4. Thank you Mike, Yes its a UTA DC-8 in the background. Its the ancient Heller kit, that I mentioned in my Plasticart DC-8 thread. Its a real dog of a kit and on par with the Plasticart outing in terms of accuracy and shape issues.
  5. Thank you Ian, I did light weathering at the tail and APU. I am trying to improve my skills on every model i do.But on some models,I like to have a nice and clean surface. I already told my mom that the models are only there to be out of the way and are in no need of cleaning...
  6. Thank you Mike. Kitties are not there.Pics were all take at my mom's place.
  7. Thank you Chris, The decals are the kit provided ones and are, beside of the size discrepancies, nice to work with. The blue on the tail fin is Revell blu 54.This was the closest match i could find without mixing something. The instructions only state "blue"* which isn't a great help.
  8. Thank you Mike, Really ? I didn't know that. But ist interesting that Amodel chose this registration for their release. The kit is roughly 3 years old... I just did some research regarding the crash.A very interesting and strange case.Officially a bomb caused the crash, others state that the DC-9 was shot down.
  9. Thank you Ian, No problem about the questions... I don't know the Fly kit,so I can't say if ist the same plastic. The decals from Amodel were, aside from the size discrepancies, very nice to work with and the decal sheet is nicely detailed. Paints used for the DC-9 were: Tamyia Pure White from spray can Testors aluminium for the fuselage, flaps and slats Revell iron 91 for the exhausts Revell blue 54 for the tail fin All was sealed with Testors Metallic sealer
  10. Thank you Mike. But believe me,that renovation really gets the last of me.I will be more than happy when all is done and live goes back to normal. Stay tuned for more civvie stuff to come in the form of Hasegawas Boeing 747-300 Swissair,Boeing 747-400 KLM,747-100 Japan Airlines-Super Resort Express,MD-11 Korean Airlines,Boeing 767-200 Delta Airlines,Boeing 777-200 Thai Airways,Revell Convair 990 Coronado Swissair and Welsh Boeing 747SP Air Namibia (if I will ever receive my ordered decals from F-DCAL...)
  11. Cool build. Have to get mine out of the stash as soon as I'm able again. Top work
  12. I have this kit too in my stash. Its the very same kit that Revell issued already, the only differences are the new box art, coloured instructions and the additional decal set with the "Cut-Away" designs, But its nonetheless a magnificent kit
  13. Thank you Chris, The Buddha was actually in the pic by accident, but I think it comes in handy with the topic... No problem,I will take some pics of the JAL 747.Its the ancient Nitto 1/200 kit from the 1970s.Actually not one of my best builds...I might redo it as I found another one recently. The decals on mine changed colour as I had to print the airline title.Probably my printers paint was not the best...
  14. Hasegawas famous LoveLiner Series had lots of classic airliners/liveries to choose from in the 80's and 90's. Sadly their offerings have been reduced to a mere few and many of the classics such as the DC-10s,TriStar's 747's are long sold out and are now sold at sometimes ridiculous prices. Luckily i managed to get hold of some of Hasegawa's early releases and the Japan Airlines DC-10-40 is one of them. Like all of Hasegawa's airliners, they consist of only a few parts and the fitting is very good as well as the accuracy. This one was built OOB,using only kits parts and decals. Hasegawa even included the original DC-10-40 Pratt & Whitney JT9D-59 engines chosen by Japan Airlines.A nice touch that is not always the case with other manufacturers.. The decals were still in good condition and went on without any problems. This is my last airliner post for the time being as I am forced to stop production due to our house renovation. Cheers,
  15. This was an on and off build that I worked on in between my many other projects. Due to the mentioned house-renovation I wanted to get it done before the shut-down. AZmodel's DC-9 is one of their short-run kits, and it shows in some parts. The plastic is quite soft and some of the parts are molded a little too close to the sprues. The fit is good and the kit is very nicely detailed and accurate. The decals are nice as well, the only thing is that they are too long by about two window frames.Same goes also with the Swissair option thats on the decal sheet as well. I opted for the JAT livery as I gave the Swissair decals to a friend.I have 2 other DC-9 kits that have Swissair decals and they will be build in Swissair livery. Some slight weathering was done on the wings, stabs and the rear by dry-brushing and using a pen. Somehow I managed to mess up the front gear, maybe I should have it installed before fitting in the gear-box into the fuselage... But the DC-9 is also nice to look at "inflight" On with the pics Cheers,
  16. Plasticart's interpretation, thats all I can call it, of the famous DC-8 was by far the worst kit I had/build so far from that manufacturer. Totally wrong noseshape, cabin windows much lower on one side of the fuselage than at the other, twisted parts...and so on,this one gave me more than once nightmares. It's on par qualitywise with Heller's DC-8 kit that I built some time ago. More than a year in the making,I finally got it finished. Most of the work went into the correction of the nose,to get it as accurate as possible.I reshaped the whole cockpit area, flattened and widened the "witch-nose",sanded it back as it was also too long and rescribed the air-intakes.. I rescribed also some panel-lines and flaps on the wings The rest of the look was created with decals. As the model looked very poor on its landing gear,I decided to make an inflight model, somehow like one of those from travel agencies. The display stand was obtained from a Revell 747 Panagra was a joint venture between Pan American World Airways and Grace Shipping company and was formed in 1929 and operated throughout South America until it merged with Braniff International in 1967. I found the livery quite appealing so I ordered this decal set from F-DCAL. It matched on the kit with only little adjustments. Hope you like it, Cheers
  17. This 747 was built along with my other Revell British Airways 747-236. That kit came with two decal options (BA and Thai) and was released somewhere in 1990.The decals where still in good condition, but whoever designed that decal set, esp. for the Thai version was either an apprentice or had no clue what he was doing... It was quite tricky to get them to match and align with the 747s fuselage and have the correct spots for the doors and windows. The windows and other details come from a 747 detail set. The build itself was straight forward with no problems.Revell's 747-100/200 kit is very nice for its age and I enjoy every build of them. I did some humble corrections on the kit's engines,as they are a bit off shape. Some more 747's are waiting in my stash, but due to our house renovation I had to empty my hobbyroom...so no airliner production probably for the next 2 months... So here I present my last and recent builds that rolled off production line or had to be rushed over the finishing line before the shutdown... All modells and the whole stash I had to relocate (evacuate) to my moms place...luckily she just lives in the next house. But the place is now quite crowded... Here a pic of the current situation...not my whole fleet though and also some snap fit models that I bought some time ago On we go with the 747 walkaround... Cheers, ...and also no cats,as these pics were taken at my moms place...
  18. Forced to stop production for a while...house renovation ongoing :-(

      MikeW

Hopefully you are adding a new wing to display all your airliners.

  19. Didn't you just post pics of a real one ? .... Joke aside...you have done an outstanding job on this classic.Absolutely stunning I wanted to do an American Airlines airliner in a long time but always backed out of it because of the all metallic finish. You show how its done Cheers Alex
  20. You are very right about that.My 747 stash has significantly rised in numbers.Taken all scales in count, i have 35 747s with one more on order.
  21. Very nice build and choice of livery.Love the British Asia Airways scheme.
  22. What a great diorama.I am very impressed by the details in this small scale. Awesome
  23. Stunning work Mike. Thats really beautiful and amazing
  24. I built the Revell BA 747-400 with the RR engines. They sit quite fine and are not touching the ground. I made some corrections to the nose but otherwise its built OOB.I only overdid the re-scribing on the panel lines. It looks more serious on the pics than on the actual model. Here my RFI, http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234988113-revell-boeing-747-436-ba-landor-scheme/
  25. Wrong link inserted.Look new post. No idea how to rease this one...
