  2. Is a lorry designed to carry hellium gas lighter or heavier when full?
  3. Hornby produce 9 types of four wheel carrages in a pseudo LBSCR livery you need to do some modelling, i.e. not just take things out of a box, to get them to look anything like LBSCR carriages.
  4. I've been called cheap before, never dear. I could take offence to that, along with two gates, a drystone wall, a stile and 100 metres of barbed wire.
  5. how much for e-mail & spam?
  6. The eyelets were more probably steel, possibly mild or low carbon alloy as unlike brass it doesn't require the use of crital alloying elements like nickel that during war are better employed in things like shell cases or Armour plate. Blackening or Japanning would give a surface sufficiently protected from rust for the expected life time (5 - 10 years at most). The weight of the tilt is not of great importance when it comes to tying it down, that is carried on the framework, what is critical is that the tilt is held tight so that it doesn't billow & sale in high winds as that often ends with trucks on their side. The tension in the ropes is likely to distort brass but not steel.

  8. If you're into model railways or require any plasticard there's Slater's factory @ Darley Dale link. I've purchased before from the unit. Otherwise I believe it's Chesterfield or Sheffield.
  9. You only need to see who's attending shows to see Kids have little interest in kits these days. & those abroad interestd are still probably following on smartphone's so announcing yesterday, today or tomorrow is of little consequence. Waiting on a HAR 3
  10. Local car paint mixers round here will mix to any colour chart they have - don't know one that doesnt carry the BS 381 chart. Wll mix aerosols & brushing paint in any finish. Last match was 2 off, 400 ml, aerosols & 200 ml brushing paint to BS381c -113 for less than £25.
  11. "Keep in mind that AI systems are ultimately taking a guess at what color the photo might have been, and what you see isn't historically accurate. But even so, colorizing black and white photos is a wonderful way to make cherished memories shine." quote from the following page: https://www.makeuseof.com/how-to-colorize-black-and-white-photos/
  12. Effetively the same as a link to your bank account hence no additional card conversion fees.
  13. Link your bank account to your Paypal account and either set it as deault or select it as the payment option. Not sure if it tells you the conversion rate & fees at the time of the transaction though, it's been a while since I did any foreign transactions.
  14. On a modelling forum when it comes to spats shouldn't we stick to discussing those around Lysander wheels? (other aircraft are available).
  15. Advertising Pah! it's the invisible trackers & Java programs you need to worry about. I use a series of Firefox add ons, No Script (prevents Java Script running on websites unless permanenty or temporarily permitted by the user), Ghostery, Privacy Badger to Control them. There are sites where over 30 scripts have been repoted by No Script. Mike, try No Script it may identify what's causing the issue.
  16. That's what I was thinking, I miss-interpreted your post.
  17. Does the price include the annual calibration? Usually the initial higher price only includes the initial certificate (& the work involved in creating the 'numbers' required).
  18. I've seen similar results with diesel. Before the massive price hikes on my daily home run I regularly achieved mid to high 50's mpg (62 best), with the high prices elected to use suprmarket fuel, consumption dropped to low/mid 50's some days as low as 48. As prices dropped I've switched back to branded fuel, mainly BP, within 2 tank fulls consumption was back to normal & running smoother (achieved 63 on one occasion). Have not yet got back on ESSO which I've always thought was better. Same refinery but different cuts from the distilation process. From a relative that worked from Immingham I understand the pre-mixed additives are put into the delivery tanker. Regarding Supermarket diesel I've seen in print (CSMA motoring mag.) that there is one supermarket (not named) that banned its own delivery drivers, including fuel deliverys, from using its own diesel because of its potential to cause engine damage. Any links?
  19. Aldi/Lidl both with a 3 year warranty. Only issues i've had were either battery related or resolved by stripping the unit down, cleaning & re-assembly.
  20. Fine for the GER who's territory was London, Peterborough, Boston & East Anglia however the OP referenced Lincolnshire which was either GNR (Peterborough, Doncaster, Lincoln, Grimsby & Boston) where eithe a J39 tender loco or J50 tank loco would be more common, or GCR (Doncaster, Lincoln, Grimsby & Scunthorpe) where J11 tender loco would prevail. Of course the WD Austerity 0-6-0 saddle tank loco (later LNER J94) began to appear in 1943 this is available redy to run or for a static layout the old Kitmaster/airfix plastic kits appear fom time to time on a certain website. If sticking with the Jinty then 8 were used by the WD (No.s 11-18) from March 1940. All were sent to France with a further 6 (WD numbers 19-24) were prepared but not used. I've not turned up any specific livery details but it appears loco's requisitioned from the mainline comanies were painted a 'khaki green' which can be interpreted many ways. @Mike Starmer may be able to assist.
  21. All they are doing is putting a theory forward that cannot objectively be proved. Rhymes can, and often are, contrived. When spoken the written word can change vastly in a very short distance depending on the local accent & in London that distance can be as short as neighboring streets. It will also be biased to the 'educated' proportion of society. It's the same argument that often appears on this forum regarding colour which without having swatches to compare come down to personal preferences. There's no doubt that languages evolve, look at what BBC English has done to local accents, look at what US TV & Microsoft are doing to the English language - it wont be long before were all talking American.
  22. Anything prior to the invention of recording is pure conjecture.
  23. PC 10 TON seen in supermarket car park in Glossop
