  1. Car insurance is going through the roof, my renewal quote from LV was 50% up on previous year, and that was significantly up on the year before that with the exception of 1 year with the post office been with them for 20 years. When I enquire about the increase it's a case that repair costs (parts & labour) ave all gone up, I've a friend in the trade and he confirms that's true to an extent but not 50% in the last year, not even since Covid. The risks around petrol & diesel cars have not changed, the new kid on the block is electric (full or hybrid). Expensive to buy, expensive to repair and after an accident No one wants to touch them. There's one sat in a field alongside the Snake pass (A57) that looks like it's rolled several times and has been waiting recovery for THREE months, it's not even in a difficult location. If it stays much longer it may need planning permission from the Peak Park Planning board. Diesel on a longer run is actually better for the environment than Petrol. (That's sure to bring out the naysayers). As for Electric cars no one has published an estimate of their Carbon & other polutant footprints Lithium TIP: Check your mileage I reviewed my last few MOT certs to find I'd been over estimating my annual mileage by some 3000 miles, & managed to save just over £100. Beter im my pocket than theirs.
  2. Some history on the development of early ar transporters to be found here (includes the above photo) https://heritagemachines.com/commercials/the-car-transporter-revolution/ Regards Pullmore & Carrimore both were companies that appear to have been based in the same general area of London their full names are so similar could they be one & the same Pullmore Carrimore

  4. That's a serious lump of lead, but if the Loco's goig to pull anywhere a near prototypical load it's needed. One tip to aid machine threaded bolts to self tap is to cut two slots along the shaft - just like proper taps. Only time I've had to secure weight in the boiler was on a J11 purchased off the bay. weight was loose in the boiler and could not be extracted. No problem I thought flood some thin Superglue in to stop it moving. next thing my thighs burning. hadn't noticed the hole under the smokebox or the dripping glue. a little higher & a bit to the left - doesn't bear thinking about.
  5. Slightly O/T but interested to hear what else was included in the bundle - Have bonus beer tokens to spend.

  9. Arguably 9-11. With almost 3000 fatalities. Failure to act on intellegence: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_11_intelligence_before_the_attacks Lack of security for US domestic flights. Ease of access to flight decks.

Make your mind up before you get in the chair.
  11. That is very probable. I recall being surprised when I found out that .303 was a size still in use during the 80's & 90's for proof testing of armour plate.
  12. A very quick image search using Duck Duck Go throws up the operators Manual with side views along with drawing of similar units. manual search
  13. Try placing the decal in a sunny place - as reported on here many times - it reverses the yellowing process. Also prevents breach of copyright.
  14. You seem to be sorted but for the record Krystal clear would NOT be suitable to produce this style of marker lights. Being a PVA type liquid it shrinks as it sets, this is fine for windows* where there is all around support. For wing tip marker lights, where there in no all around support, the best that could be achieved is a blob which, due to its nature could not be worked into shape or polished to the required clarity. * Aside from the meniscus at the edges Krystal clear will only produce flat windows.
  15. Depend on the desired outcome. If you just want to get rid of the wheel well do as Mike suggests and hack away at the part with mini-power tools, finessing the finsh until you can fit any replacement. If you want to transplant the part and need to keep the fuselage the scribing method, whilst laborious, is best. If you want to transplant the part and are not worred about the fuselage then hack around the part with said power tools, modelling knife or saw, leavng a margin that can be removed & finnessed once the part is free and more managable.
  16. That's something we're all aware of. Has been done on Rails first e-mail & not received any more even though they are notorous for sending several per week. I'm also aware that you can ask for a copy of all data held by a company about you so that you have an opportunity to have it corrected and that it is possible to ask/tell a company to 'forget' you digitally however, being awre of how databases work, the latter probably only adds a marker to exclude your record from certain quries of the information.
  17. I too had the opt out e-mail but it was received AFTER it had been confirmed on RMWEB the details had been transferred between the two parties. As @Pete F say's - as they have stopped trading there's probably not a lot that can be done. As for good faith I'd also add possible monetisation of data, what else was transferred in additon to e-mail addresses? - card details, residential addresses, purchase histories, etc. In the hands of some companies this could be a disaster for some. Being local I've used Rails often, and a one time was a Saturday 'lad', I get annoyed when the current shop staff try and insist on obtaning personal details they have no right to know and when I refuse them there are often vague threats of not honouring guarantees. One of the reaons I preferred Hattons, always professional & much more pleasant. In reality opt out is a cop out. Opt in should be the only option. It woud stop a lot of scams, subs for a lot of 'forgotten/lost' memberships etc.
  18. For me it wants to save as a JPG file. Have opened it and, whilst it's cluttered and gets pxellated, I'd say they were Medium Mk II's.
  19. Do I recall seing a spreadsheet/database of tank nicknames. If so that might help with "Mr Chips"
  20. Bacon works miracles. 'net's been incredibly slow. Nothing worked to speed it up, reboot PC, reboot router, flush DNS, Nothing. Called in here whilst deliberating whether to reboot the house, Hey Presto back to normality, must be the electronic smell of smokey Bacon. p.p. anyone mentioned Hendo's?
  21. Rails of Sheffield were given or possibly sold, the e-mail details held by Hattons without everyone's approval. A breach of GDPR laws and Hattons own T&C's when everyone signed up or ordered through their website.
  22. Add to that the different communication structures of the US & other allied forces
  23. The more I read on here the more it re-enforces my opinion of Patton as being a so so General that got lucky. Patton's war seemed to be based around the old 7th cavalry charge oft seen in cowboy films and lttle else. His luck being that the Germans were otherwise pre-occupied by the Russians. If Patton style tactics had been employed by Allied forces against Rommel in North Africa its hard to imagine that Rommel would have failed to reach Cairo. Patton's greatness is purely down to American media, both of it's propaganda machine during the war and that of Hollywood after. It fits the American gun culture. The same though can be said of Generals throughout time as, according to their own propaganda they are all successes Eisenhower doesn't come across as an inspirational leader but he was probably the only one who was capable of eliciting co-operation between the massed forces in Europe and credit to him for that.
  24. have a look at organic resins https://www.liqcreate.com/supportarticles/plant-based-non-toxic-eco-resin-3d-printing/ link is not itended to be any form of endorsement/recommendadtion of any business or product, just the first one that came up in a web search.
