  1. Enjoying following this as I have built this kit. The engine has so much detail that I could not bring myself to 'hide' it in the engine bay of the model so I have it displayed alongside the car in my cabinet.
  2. Great, Thanks. Wanted to start with something small, but iconic.
  3. I have just bought the Red Arrows version and it will be my first 'non-car' build. Does anyone know if there are any aftermarkets parts available; specifically cockpit?
  4. Very nice. I'd love a 1/12 version of this with a lot more detail and maybe openable doors. One of the things I don't like about the kit is the police radio; rather poor I think (no speaker with it) so I'm scratchbuilding one and making it a bit bigger than the kit one.
  5. Looking nice. Shame about the bumper, I may strip mine and use Molotow; the kit chrome is a bit too bright I think. I bought a Molotow Chrome refill bottle, and put a few droplets in a plastic cup when I want to chrome parts and brush it on; if you load up the brush liberally and brush quickly it dries smooth with no brush marks. I still use a pen for really small parts.
  6. If you will allow me to give you a tip; I have just given my tyres a few very light coats of Tamiya spray Matt clear (sidewalls and treads) and they look far better, as the shine has gone. The tread looks much more realistic. I promise I won't keep 'highjacking' your threads!
  7. Looking good. My build is somewhat slow, as I have been working on a Revell Corvette Stingray. What do you think of the tires? For me they are a bit of a letdown; the definition of the tread is not good, and I am considering aftermarket ones for my build, if I can find some roughly the same size.
  8. Looking good. I have been using this for reference for the exterior; you can zoom in very close to the car. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1976_Ford_Gran_Torino_(Starsky_and_Hutch)_5.7.jpg
  9. Looks a very good build, but forgive me for a few observations. It looks like there are mould lines down both front wings and rear quarters; these usually can be easily sanded off before priming. The silver paint is excellent, but a few coats of clear on the bodyshell would have brought out a glossier finish. This has been in my stash for quite a few years but not close to building it yet.
  10. Not been on here for a while, and so have only just 'found' this thread. I'm currently working on this kit, including an aftermarket set from Model Car Garage: https://www.modelcargarage.com/eshop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=434 I'm not using all the etched parts, but some of them are very useful if you want to get a set. I've used the decal stripes and with care and patience they are a very good fit; needs clearcoating but be careful and don't do what I did, put too much clear on, destroyed the decals and had to completely strip the body back and start again. Ended up buying another kit just for the decals!😭 You build looks good, I'll be watching with interest.
  11. 'No pressure for the body work then.' Don't worry; I meant it's the bit I often get wrong and end up stripping the whole body and redoing it. One of my recent builds: painted the body, stripped it, painted again, stripped it again and then painted it a third time before I was happy with the finish. Cost me a fortune in paint! 🤬
  12. Hi There, Not posted on here for ages, but I have this in the stash (I was also a huge fan of the TV series) and so am watching with keen interest. Great weathering on the chassis and interior; cannot wait until you paint the body (that is always my favourite bit when building but also the part which goes wrong often!). I saw a replica of the real car in my local filling station a few years back; it looked fantastic. Here it is, via photobucket: Note the front grille and rims; looks more aluminium than chrome but of course the cars used in the show might have been different.
  13. Looking very good. I have often got seatbelts to lay flat on the seat with a small touch of superglue on the back of the harness.
  14. Watching this with interest; I have 2 of these in my cabinet, the road course version that you are building, and the oval racing version (using the Duracell Dick Simon model and an aftermarket decal sheet). Both are Mansell builds. This race car is my all time favourite and I loved watching Mansell driving it in 1993. The model goes together quite well, although I do not like the way the join in the monocoque at the front of the model is visible. As you have experienced, some of the decaling is a challenge as well. Good luck with the rest of the build.
  15. Just ordered this model and likely to be my next build. Any recent updates?
  16. Any progress on this. I would like to follow this build as I fancy getting the kit and building it next year.
  17. Looking good. I have been following this build with interest as I have the Tamiya kit in my stash. What primer have you used? I used to use Halfords but now only go with Tamiya Fine Surface primer, which is expensive but does not need sanding down and so cuts a lot of time from preparation.
  18. I have enjoyed looking at this build. Are you going to spray clear coat on the model when decaled, to seal them in?
  19. Hi Jamme, I have changed my profile name; 'Perfectionist' was used in haste and after some thought decided it wasn't right. Looking forward to the finished build.
  20. Hi, Newbie here. This looks excellent and a great build.
