  1. Interesting topics and well presented! Had to google Waipapakauri; might be worth a visit on a road trip this summer.
  2. Thanks all for the input. Does anyone have a higher res image of either or both sheets? The previews are too small to see the schemes for either NF14 to decide which sheet to grab. https://d26qn1y84zs32g.cloudfront.net/pics/MD092.jpg
  3. I've got an old Matchbox NF14 in the stash and I don't think I should trust the decals. I came across the below whilst browsing Hannant's. Does anyone have any higher res images of the models sheets and the colours for the NF14s on either sheet? I can see precisely nothing on the Hannant's previews. Any thoughts on the quality of Modeldecal sheets? https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MD092 https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MD093 Thanks.
  4. Wings on, nose attached, sanding has commenced. I've used a smidgen of filler where the nose, wings and fuselage meet on the underside of the fuselage and a few drops where the parts were cut away from the sprue. Otherwise it's going together nicely. I might have some minor rescribing to do around the nose over the weekend and I should have the tailplanes on soon. Photo from the phone. In my haste to close the fuselage I failed to remove ejector pin marks from the cockpit walls. I managed to remove these from the sealed fuselage with a file and I smoothed out the damage with some fine sandpaper at the end of a pair of tweezers! Not my finest hour, but it's looking pretty good now after a dry brushing with cockpit green to break up the blank walls (which are pretty difficult to see through the standard canopy).
  5. Interesting idea! Will be watching to see how it turns out. Seems like an excellent idea for smaller scales and aircraft.
  6. Thanks all for showing an interest! Update for the weekend. Yesterday I glued together the cockpit and closed the fuselage. I considered adding detail to the walls of the cockpit, but after dry fitting the fuselage and the canopy I realised I'm not going to be able to see much at all through all the framing. So it was on with some Tamiya tape seat belts followed by the closing of the fuselage. I've accidentally removed a bit of the fabric effect at the top of the fuselage with some sanding, but I think I've kept this to a minimum by removing a few drops of squadron putty with methylated spirits on a cotton bud. Strong enough to wear down and level the putty without eating away at the plastic. Not sure if I'll try to reinstate some of the lost fabric on top of the fuselage as by comparison to photos online the effect is overdone anyway. Dry fitting of the wings. Pretty good fit, but I think I can improve it with a bit of sanding. My back order for RAF white lettering has left the UK. I should have acted sooner and combined that order with some RAF markings as I've decided the kits decals are too yellowed for the job. Before I make an order, does anyone know where I might find a decal of the Air Vice Marshall's pennant? Seen below on OK2 and Keith's Spitfire, both at Malta. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f31/kiwichappers/Keith%20Park/OK2NormanFranks0001.jpg http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/b436/AUCK1/NZ%20Aircraft%20Photos/SpitfireMkVKeithParkMalta.jpg
  7. Good initial progress. Nose is together and the interior has been painted. Hope to close the fuselage over the weekend (this is a lightning paced build for me). Wings are glued together. Not too happy with the holes I've drilled for the machine guns. Might have to figure out a way to fill in one or two on the weekend and try again.
  8. My entry for this group build: OK1, Keith Park's personal aircraft while he was in command of No.11 Group RAF. Auckland's MOTAT (Museum of transport and technology) is a few minutes away from my house in Auckland. The museum is split across two sites. The aviation hall (MOTAT 2) is on the second site and is dedicated as the Keith Park Memorial Aviation Display. A few years ago the museum added a second hanger so they could accommodate more aircraft indoors. It must have been about this time that they installed a large statue of Keith Park inside the hangers. I've always enjoyed visiting MOTAT 2 and have admired the fibreglass replica of Keith's aircraft on gate guard duty. It's great to be able to contribute to the group build with a New Zealand connection. My kit of choice is the late model Mk1 Hurricane by Hasegawa. I've admired some of the attempts on here to mate the old mould airfix metal wings to the new mould fabric-winged hurricane. Not for me! I'm hoping for a relatively quick build with my choice of kit. I'm awaiting some Xtradecal lettering from Hannants and might need to look into the type of propellor before the end of the month. Troy Smith has provided some great reference info. I'll also be taking some inspiration from this excellent build by kiwichappers.
  9. Do you have another link for those templates? I can't seem to access that site.
  10. I'd like to join in with an RNZAF P-51D. Should have plenty of time to complete my current line up in the next year and four months!
  11. Thanks, Troy! Looks like these should have me sorted for decals (as close as I can get for white lettering). I've got some 8" lettering for the fuselage which I'll probably stick with (can't see any 6" options for WW2 RAF on Hannants). https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X72199 https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X72045 https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X72043 Whether or not I use the underwing roundels presumably depends on the time period I'm trying to represent. I'll take a look at the propeller supplied with my Hasegawa kit (late type) and the canopy.
  12. I'm hoping someone can help me with a Hurricane question. Forgive me if this has been asked before. I searched, but couldn't find anything on this section of the forum. I'm trying to model Keith Park's Hurricane - OK1. http://www.kiwiblog.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/kp.JPG http://www.barryweekleyart.com/aviation/AVM%20Keith%20Park.jpg These are about the only images I can seem to find of his aircraft. I think I know the types of roundels and lettering I'll need, but I'm not sure of the sizes. Grey lettering, B type roundel on the upper wing, Type A under the wings, Type A.1 on the fuselage. Looks like that might be 30" lettering. Does anyone know the size of each roundel type? And of the fin flash?
  13. Thanks, Tempest. Count me in for this GB. I've got a Monogram 1/72 Bearcat on the way.
  14. Did you end up using the Fundekal sheet? Any issues other than the size of the roundel for the nose? That kit is looking great. Nice job with the subtle weathering.
  15. Does anyone know if the French aircraft in the Sword 1/72 Bearcat represents an Indochina aircraft? (I can take this elsewhere so as not to hijack the thread?).
  16. I think I'll check in closer to the start date. I've got nothing in the stash that's relevant, but I'd love to add something French and piston powered from the first Indochina War.
  17. Very nice, plasticsurgeon. You've set the bar for that paint scheme. I'm working on a Nf 12 at the moment, my first Matchbox Meteor. It's devouring filler! Should provide a few lessons before this group build begins.
  18. http://www.maltaviationmuseum.com/meteornf14.asp I'd like to model WS774 or something similar. Will need to buy some RAF lettering/codes at the very least.
  19. I'm tempted to join you. I've got an old Matchbox NF 11/12/14 under the bed. I could try my hand at an NF14.
  20. I'm not sure if this would count, but I would like to join in with a model of Sir Keith Park's Hurricane - OK1. http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/media/photo/replica-keith-parks-hurricane-fighter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Park
  21. Spitfire XIVc RB169. This is my second Academy XIV built in this scale with the Xtradecal sheet X72178. This kit is well known for its accuracy issues, but it is easy to build and is well detailed. I've built this for my girlfriend's father, who has donated me some of his old kits (Academy PBY-4 and the old mould Airfix Lancaster B.I/III). I've got two Fujimi low-back XIVs to build next, but I'm taking a break from propellor aircraft for now with an Xtrakit NF Meteor. I may add another of these to my collection to replace my previous attempt, RB159.
  22. The packaging for the 0.3 mm needle says 1717 3. The package says this is for the AR/BR. However, as we can see on Iwata's part list - compatible with the Revolution BCR. I've emailed Iwata asking them to clarify. As you can see from Iwata's website there is no mention of compatibility of the handle with with optional parts. My thinking is that this is just an oversight. I can't see any other 0.3 mm needles compatible with the Revolution BCR.
  23. Hi, little-cars. I replaced all the associated parts when I switched form 0.5 to 0.3mm. The 0.3mm needle is much shorter than the 0.5. That's my issue. As far as I can see there is no information regarding optional needles and compatibility. http://www.Iwata/products/accessories/handles/triple-action-handle/ The only info about compatibility is below. The Triple-Action Handle Fits These Iwata Airbrushes: • Hi Line Series • HP-C and HP-BC • HP-C Plus and HP-BC Plus • Eclipse CS, BCS, and BS • Revolution BCR and CR • Kustom CH and CS
  24. Hi, all. Today I tried installing a triple action handle for my Iwata Revolution BCR, however, I'm having some trouble. I converted my BCR from a .5 needle to a .3 with the needle part no. 1717 3 - as per Iwata's own website. See page 17, 1717 3 0.3 mm optional for the BCR http://www.Iwata/images/iwata-pdf/Revolution%20IM_REV2.pdf However! The 1717 3 needle is shorter than the standard 1717 1 0.5 mm needle. Consequently I cannot use the triple action barrel as the needle is too short to pass through the new triple action barrel. http://i.imgur.com/tstFvRt.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/IyDuf0E.jpg Has anyone else has any trouble with this? Has Iwata completely overlooked the fact that some of us may have bought the optional needle for our airbrushes? Thanks for your help.
