  1. Mungo1974, I've taken a look at the Dutch Decal option but it seems to be 1/48...and it doesn't do new logo that was being phased in from mid '53.

Julian, it wasn't in my head when I saw you. I have seen a few photos of post Korean War Sabres with the new 'US Air Force' logos but nothing in decals for 1/72. I don't think it's going to be the case of slapping the logo onto an existing decal set...

  2. Hi All,

I fancy doing a different F-86 Sabre but unclear as to markings and colours. The project in question is a F-86 along the lines as that found at the Soesterberg Museum in the Netherlands. Was this part of USAFE, how was it painted, when was 'US Air Force' logo added. Does anyone know of a decal set in 1/72 of late Sabres with this logo. Over to you guys.

    TIA

    Stuart

  3. Lots of ideas there, thanks.

What about inner walls of the intake? I've been told interior green, aluminium and external colours wrapped inwards...all very confusing. You'd thought that the ministry would have laid out the internal colouring like the external?

  4. Thanks everybody for their input to the question.

By a large majority it's aluminium even if it does look MSG. Now it's up to me to get the right look of a bright leg with a dull door. Any suggestions of paints to achieve the look that I'm after?

  5. Chris, a nice collection of photos but alas some of them reinforce my dilemma.

Tim, thanks for your thoughts. I understand that during wartime with its restrictions the control of colour finishes wouldn't be controlled well but I would have expected a little more consistency. These photos to me, show too much tonal difference of parts next to each other to be the same colour? And what about the inner door with the 'L', it's virtually flat and the 'L' stands out so much?

    Jury still out.

  6. Well Dave, what do you think?

The last image of the two illustrates what I mean. The port leg is aluminium but the inner door face doesn't look aluminium, particularly when you look at the parts that are in the prop shadow...looks like MSG to me.

  7. Hi All,

You would have thought that after all the debates about 'Tiffies' and colours their would be no more questions on the matter but I need convincing when it comes to undercarriage, wheel bays and inner doors.

I am planning to build numerous 'Tiffies' showing as much variation as possible, including colour schemes...inside and out.

I have seen the 'undercarriage' question being asked before and answered with 'aluminium'. Unfortunately, I'm not convinced and need to be. Looking at b/w photos, you can see that the undercarriage is aluminium but the door way different; MSG or interior green. Looking at the inboard doors, you can see an 'L' shaped plate in the middle looking rather bright like aluminium and the surrounding colour again is different; MSG or interior green.

As far as I an tell, cockpits of 'car-door tiffies' were light green. Is it possible that these early a/c extended the interior green to the undercarriage doors?

    So, convince me.

    TIA
