Kits I've finished recently

Nice collection, but this... ...is one ugly bird! -
We are modellers...we will overcome.

1/32 Bell P-39 Airacobra Mk1
Courageous replied to pacificmustang's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Great work so far Bruce. I built one of these using the old Monogram kit many years ago and what you're is miles better than my effort. By the way, I think you need a new razor saw. -
Sabrejet, I have said this before, get a book published with the stuff you've got, there would be a lot of happy people...including me. Stuart

Looks like both BE2C and DH4 kits will be useful with the Formaplane tub.
-
Paul, I'll keep an eye out for the Formaplane and I'll keep your offer in mind if nothing appears. Mmm...not sure about the wings; Wiki put the FE2B wingspan at 14.55 m, BE2C at 11.28 m and the DH4 at 13.21 m?
-
Thanks Paul, I did know about these ref books but as I tend to build 'one-offs' of a type, I think they're an expensive option for me...we'll see. If the Formaplane is easy enough to find, it might be the case of getting it for the tub and bits and use the wings and stuff from the Airfix DH4? I couldn't tell you if the FE2B has identical parts to a BE2C but I'll take a look at 'crash moulding'. Thanks Guys, Stuart

Hi folks, As the likelihood of a new kit arriving for this bird in 1/72 are non-existent, I thought I'd start gathering reference for a future build. I have obtained the conversion process from the Airfix forum using Airfix DH4 kit(s) and now need help on producing the cockpit tub. I understand that the tub will have to be vacformed but have never done such a thing, no plans...nothing. Where do I start? I also have lots of photos of the Beardmore 120hp engine that I plan to scratch-build but I have no scale reference. Stuart

1/72 TF-86 Sabre Trainer

Steve & Spad. I wasn't implying that Falcon canopies yellowed, I just heard that vac-canopies can yellow, I have no evidence myself. Stuart -

The Falcon vacuform, including the canopy was a pleasure to work with...no problems. The only thing I have heard is that the canopies may 'yellow' after a time? Stuart -

1/72 TF-86 Sabre Trainer

Thanks for the feedback guys. Nice to know that I'm doing something right. As you have, a rare bird in real life...two and just as rare on the model club tables as I've never seen one. -
All done. RFI... Stuart

Hi Folks. Here is my interpretation of a 1/72 TF-86 Sabre Trainer, build here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235003834-172-tf-86f-sabre-trainer/ This build consisted of the Falcon Vacuform Conversion that uses the Heller Sabre as the donor but I also used the Hobbycraft kit for mainly the wings which had to be converted back. Painted using Humbrol Metalcote. Kit decals were used but serials had to be DIY as none exist in this scale. Came out better than I thought after a few setbacks and their is always room for improvement. Hope you like. Stuart

This looks tricky Ian, I'll have to give it a try and do my best. After all, you can't build a bi-plane without the rigging.

What's the best kit for an F86A Sabre (1/72)?
Courageous replied to John R's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Sabrejet, with so much info, you should get a book published! Stuart -
Two Airfix 08002 Lancasters

What everyone else said. -
Now that looks lovely.

Well it's been a little while since the last update...1:1 stuff keeps getting in the way. Well the paint is on but for some reason the Metalcote was harder work this time round, don't know what I done different to last time. Two coats of Clear also on, next stop decals; from the box and the DIY serials. Stuart

Thanks for all the info guys. A lot of sense you're talking there Georgio. My idea being to have a RAF variant using Airfix kit, update cockpit with PE and maybe new seats and replace pitot/ IFR probe. May do a bit of scratch stuff in wheel well. A FAA variant, as previous but also add the airbrake detail. Does the Airfix kit come with the correct 'stores' for the FAA? Stuart
-
Thanks guys, looks like Airfix is the way to go, especially the newer kits and getting the stores. Stuart
-
Thinking of future builds and purchases, I wan't to build a mainstream RAF variant and a FAA variant. What 1/72 Buccaneer kits and 'must have' accessories are out there? Please include pros & cons...I know next to nothing about this a/c. Stuart
-
Thanks Sabrejet So, using the above image, what would the nose cone and tail tip colour be? Stuart
-
Sabrejet...to late to alter my headrest now. Model has had its first coat of Metalcote, so a light buff tonight before its second coat. DIY decals have been done, printed and 'filmed'. Hopefully they'll be going on soon. As a matter of interest, what colour is the nose cone of '228' as I've seen varying colours. Thinking of doing the 'near white' cone? Also, what is that bit at top of fin? Stuart
