  1. Thanks for posting this - it's looking great πŸ™‚ As a kid in the 70's this was THE ship/vessel kit for me. To me it always looked busy and purposeful. A few months ago I saw the vintage Airfix kit in my local store and just snapped it up. I am really enjoying the nostalgia build. (Just OOB, it's still in the yard). It wont be a patch on your build! πŸ™‚. PB
  2. Hi Steve -This is just great πŸ™‚ It keeps making me smile so big thanks for that! (Hope the little fella being chased makes it) PB
  3. Nice Mirage ! πŸ™‚ Have you read "44 Days" by Michael Veitch? (Also- Looking at the bar mat - does that make you a Pies supporter?)
  4. That's a terrific job on a challenging kit and rarely seen subject πŸ™‚ - thanks for posting
  5. Well that gets my vote! How did your eyesight hold out? πŸ™‚
  6. That's half the fun! πŸ™‚ ... (The KP Pawnee is similar. You've inspired me to take a look at Cub now.) Very nice - thanks for posting
  7. Thanks @twinpin πŸ™‚- I'm getting spacers with yours 😢
  8. Thanks all πŸ™‚ I went to school in the West Country and one of the enduring memories is lots of farmer's kids poring over the latest BSA and Webley Scott air rifle brochures πŸ™‚ .... and another question - Do you make or preserve a rare ancient kit? For instance the Airfix SAM -2 Missile. The moulds I believe were scrapped. I have an Airfix Gazelle in the original blister pack from 50 years ago that I cant see ever opening. Doesn't seem right!
  9. Hi When I was a kid in the Seventies I was given the Airfix "Modelling Jet Fighters" guide which opened my eyes to the fact that you did not always need to just slap a kit together and set fire to it. The guide then inspired me to go out and buy my first modelling magazine: the latest edition of SAM (Aircraft in Detail S-3 Viking) - which I still have. Articles from both included modifying the Airfix Corsair to USAF standard and Peter Doyle makes the Rareplanes Vulcan. (So if you are finding the Airfix kit a bit intimidating - think at least its not a vacform! That will get you back on track.) . I quickly bought the Airfix A-7 Corsair and Airfix S3 Viking but it was the Hasegawa S-3 I always hunkered after. SAM gave it an excellent review- apart from the decals. I have had a soft spot for both aircraft ever since Anyway - forty plus years later and I'm revisiting the Airfix A-7 Corsair and find myself the Hasegawa S-3 Viking. And what great fun they were too. The Corsair has no cockpit as such and is pretty basic but nothing that a bit of plastic card and lead wire can't sort. Decals on both were unusable so went aftermarket.
  10. Wow! This, to me, is the essence of wonderful modelling. You can't beat a bit of scratchbuilding. Thanks for sharing/inspiringπŸ™‚
  11. Good show of skills there Mark πŸ™‚ Peeps have their own views on weathering but its certainly needed to some extent (after all, monotone subjects can be ...er...monotone!). Just need to decide on how much artistic license you wish to use.πŸ™‚ Here is a shot of sister ship 615
  12. Keep the shots coming! πŸ™‚ Love the Cranberry pictures- The Canberra is something special PB
  13. Hi - Further to the great shots from @zebra here are a few more (not so great) which I hope are of interest. Most were taken early morning so some are a bit dim πŸ™‚. It was nice to see public access to a number of aircraft including the C5, A400s , KC 10 and Chinooks. Last time I ended up pretending to be a boom operator on a KC 135. Cessna O2 Skymaster - this Vietnam veteran is used by SiNAB to test surveillance pods Bristol Sycamore - this one was delivered in 1951 and operated at the Woomera Rocket Range until 1965 There is some talk of a heavy lift replacement for the RAAF and hey presto two A400s! One Royal Malaysian Air Force and one Luftwaffe. Luftwaffe A400 and USAF KC10 framed by a C 5 from Dover AFB Temora's airworthy Canberra flew in (Cessna Dragonfly on the right) There were at least six Austers dotted around including this example which is over eighty years old F15 - Royal Singapore Air Force The Boeing Australia Ghost Bat - A multi mission unmanned wingman due to be introduced into the RAAF in the next few years The infamous Taipan due to be replaced by the Black Hawk The Piaggio Avanti - hard to believe the design is nearly 40 years old. Anyone remember the Beechcraft Starship from the same time? A couple of Pitts in the general aviation area (Pitts S1T and S1X). Lastly a Silence Twister - a homebuilt with wings inspired by the Spitfire. Behind it to the left is an Arion Lightning - a light sport aircraft with a bit of speed. Not for training.
  14. Thanks dhanners! The photos I had caused me a fair bit of confusion at the time πŸ™‚ but it was a very enjoyable build. I may see if I can scrape off the COMP DRAIN marking πŸ™‚
  15. Outrageous and brilliant! Love it Maybe there should be a group build where Merlin's are grafted onto various airframes. Now where was that Tiger Moth kit I have in the stash....
  16. Great flight of Hercs there Matt Can we look forward to one in earth and stone maybe? (I remember them when we were in quarters at Colerne in the 70's) ('179 was a horrible loss)
  17. I still can't get over how small it is - what a lovely work. Really inspiring
