  1. Thanks, I ended up using levelling thinner and cotton buds to remove the paint. Will spray the paint on when I re do it. What’s annoying is how good the gloss finish was on the areas without bubbles.
  2. A technique I saw on YouTube to paint jet intake trunking was to use a pipette to apply neat Mr Color GX1 and pour it from 1 end of the intake to the other. I have tried this and have a bunch of air bubbles within the paint. I am letting the paint dry overnight, but what is the best way for me to smooth out / eliminate the air bubbles within the paint?
  3. Sea King door looks good. Some suggestions for other items: New cockpit seats in line with the comments made by Crisp in his Build Thread New winch housing, that includes the hand adjustable spotlight that the winch operator can use. Infra Red floodlights. Late service HU5 radar operators upper panel. FLIR screen and operators controls that are fitted to radar operators panel.

    MRP -191

Does anyone know a reasonable match using Tamiya or Mr Hobby paints for MRP paints 191 - US Non Chromate Epoxy Primer? It appears to be a mint green type colour. 44GN098 is the code for this paint.
  5. There’s a UK MoD pic in this article showing 2 AMRAAM in the right hand side weapons bay.
  6. Would inert rounds have GPS aerials?
  7. Thanks both, looks like I may need to invest in a bench vice and a saw with less flex.
  8. When removing Brassin Wheels (or similar) for aircraft from the stubs, I end up with an angled cut rather than a straight cut. The cut starts straight and then angles to one side. To correct I then have to sand it and end up removing too much material. I have a Tamiya hand saw which is the one that uses a Tamiya scalpel handle and the larger razor saw. What is the best way to avoid this.
  9. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPEAR_3 It seems that Spear 3 is the same size as Brimstone but is 100kg in weight v 50kg. Also has a loitering capability.

    Glasgow 2023

Indeed. Just checked the IPMS Glasgow website and it still says updates will be made when available. Have been holding off purchasing some Tamiya LP and Mr Surfacer paints in the hope that I can get them at the show.
  11. SPEAR is the Brimstone replacement I believe. I don’t know if there are plans to integrate Storm Shadow or its eventual replacement on F-35. From reading the Wikipedia article on Meteor, it seems to be a European developed ramjet powered AAM.
  12. Paveway IV, AMRAAM and ASRAAM according to this article. Future weapons to be integrated are SPEAR 3 and Meteor, although the article mentions it will be a modified version of Meteor to fit within the weapons bay.

Is there a list of traders / vendors available?
  14. Hi Colin, if your using the air filter box, then yes it will be a later service life cab. If before the introduction of the FLIR system, they had an IR floodlight fitted on both left and right sponsons. If modelling with the FLIR system fitted, the IR floodlight is only fitted on the right hand sponson. I posted a link either in Crisp or Mike’s thread to a BBC article that had a good photo showing the radar console with the FLIR screen added. Also shows some changes to the comms and nav set up above the console compared to the kit. Mark
  15. Colin, are you doing a late service Gannet cab? regards, Mark
  16. Saw this in the flesh today. They had 3 fully built and painted examples and 3 unpainted fully built examples. The fully painted examples were Italian as parked for crew in, 617 squadron going up the ramp in STOVL config and USMC example hovering in VL config. The unpainted examples they were letting folk get hands on with. The detail looks absolutely stunning, especially as they had sprayed a number of sprues in AS12 silver to really highlight it.
  17. Crisp, what are the 2 aerials that hang down at the front just behind the pop out landing lights? I have seen photos of HU5’s with them fitted and painted white, painted red and not fitted at all. The aerials fitted to the HAR3’s also seem to be of differing thickness to those of RN cabs.
  18. That’s looking really good Mike. Can’t wait to see some paint on. How heavy are you planning on going with the weathering as its a review build? I stumbled on this photo of a close up of the winch housing on an HU5 from HMS Gannet. It looks metallic in colour with most of the exhaust soot cleaned off which is interesting as they look as if painted black in the majority of photos.
  19. Mike, there's a good pic on this BBC article about HMS Gannet that shows the FLIR Camera display screen attached to the frame of the radar screen. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-35303937
  20. Mike, Does the kit come with the infrared floodlight that you can see mounted between the right fuselage and right sponson in photos of late service life HU.5's? Mark
  21. Dino Dalle Carbonare, of Speedhunters fame, recently showcased a Japanese tuner who was working on restoring a 432R on his Youtube channel. He also recently visited another specialist S30Z restoration / tuning shop, Star Road and did a feature video on them. Some really good stuff if your interested in modified Z's.
  22. Just to update - the nozzle cap was blocked with Mr Surfacer.
