  1. Gawd, so much for New Year austerity, I think I'm gonna need one of these...
  2. Beautiful. Very well done, and the paintwork is excellent. I just wish there was a decent kit of this in 1/72! Justin
  3. Very nice indeed. The stripes look bang on, so well done. Justin
  4. Beautiful job. Worth the effort and doubtless the frustration. Looking forward to RFI! Justin
  5. Mike, friends should not remind each other of the travails of building Sword Spitfires. After a while, the horror fades, and you start to think you can go again - which is where I was this morning. It's now Saturday night so I'll have beer and consider things afresh tomorrow. J
  6. Just bumping this helpful thread as I've now taken delivery of an Xtrakit XII, something I never thought would happen. So like many others I'm really pleased that Xtrakit have put out a new run of these. Justin
  7. The undercarriage is far too narrow between the legs, resulting in wheels that are too thin.
  8. Ooh very nice. For unadulterated beauty it's a hard choice between this and a Spitfire XIX. I'll be dipping in as this progresses. J
  9. That looks excellent. Great save on the wingtip camo and the repainted yellow bit is v convincing. J
  10. I never flew on these with Alitalia but did many miles in their MD-80s. What struck me about those flights were the landings: it seemed like their pilots had been trained by the US Navy as they always banged them in and who cared about the shocks & tyres. In the days before 9/11 they used to leave the cockpit door open so you could look down the aisle and out the front. Plus the cabin crew uniforms in that dark olive green looked really classy and the coffee was pretty decent too. Happy days. J
  11. The Xtrakit XII is a Sword kit in all but name. The dimensions and other qualities of the moulds mean that parts are basically interchangeable with real Sword kits. They ain't perfect (wingspan short, and fuselage slightly short and a bit too slender at the join to the tailplane - compared to e.g. Eduard), but at least they're all consistent across the range. I think that the Xtrakit 22 is an MPM kit in all but name. Likewise their Meteor F8. Justin
  12. Interesting to see the difference in camo pattern between WZ-B and WZ-L. Both have the B pattern, but they are executed differently in the starboard wingtip area, where in fact it would make no difference because ultimately both would be covered by the roundel, and would therefore look the same once completed. And while I'm on, do the Dark Earth areas of WZ-L look darker than on the adjacent aircraft? Justin
  13. Worth being aware that the CMR XII is very short in the fuselage aft of the cockpit. Justin
  14. Looks very nice. Do the inner undercarriage doors need to be swapped over? Justin
  15. Sounds like the story of my life. Nice bit of masking with the wavycutter. Looks like a useful bit of kit. KBO. Justin
  16. Where. When. How much. How many have they got! J
  17. Well done on all the corrective work on the nacelles - looks much better now. But the question in my mind is who does Airfix's research? Their Mosquito XVI is also badly flawed with the bomb bay and undercarriage. Disappointing when all you want are accurate kits of well-documented aircraft. Justin
  18. Congrats on rescuing this. In terms of decals, this set looks quite nice: http://www.iliad-design.com/decals/72PreSpits.html Available from your preferred retailer... Justin
  19. Lovely model. Not a type I knew about. If nothing else, the airbrake arrangement seems to have found its way onto the Fiat G.91. Justin
  20. Really nice. Best 1/72 T4 I've seen I think! Justin
  21. Mmm, likey likey. The best Meteor in the best colour scheme. Lashings of PRU Blue underneath - excellent! Justin
  22. Very very nice. Back in the day I thought the F-4 was the be all and end all in terms of fighter design, and then came F-14, -15, -16 and -17/18. The 16 still looks as good as it did then - a jet powered P-51 with the F-86 in between. Great model of the YF to remind us how it started. J
  23. Lovely job. My favourite B-17 version and you've really nailed it. Well done.
