  1. I bet that's 'fun' to drive in the snow. I lost the back of my Mk IV in the wet once, and had a frantic couple of seconds getting in back! As for the forthcoming Airfix kit, I'm looking forward to it immensely. Justin
  2. That looks great. The T-2 is a pretty thing to my eye, and I like the fact that the wing has elements from that of the P-51, via the FJ-1. You've made a good job of it too. Justin
  3. If I remember correctly, Sword's early XV kit has the Seafire strengthening rib moulded along the outside of the fuselage. You would need to remove that for a Spitfire XII, which is a slight pain. Might be better to use the late XV fuselage and source a rudder from either an Eduard or AZ/KP kit, or one from Quickboost (or from the early XV kit if you're prepared to sacrifice it). If the rudder is from a different manufacturer it might need a bit of fettling to make it fit properly though. I suggest this because it's the route I'm taking to build my XII, once the mojo is sufficiently charged. I think PrintScale do some XII decals as part of their V1 Aces set. Justin
  4. Lovely job. Great brushpainting and the weathering looks spot on.
  5. I really like that. My favourite version of the Canberra, if one can still call it that? Great job in the NASA paint scheme too! Justin
  6. V interesting - hadn't clocked that. Did other Griffon Spits have it as a rule, or was it the personal choice of the pilot? (And do I need to get the saw out....?) Justin
  7. That's great news about the Dominie/early 125s. Will certainly invest! Justin
  8. Thanks Chris, I was kind of hoping you'd come in and say something like that. I saw your comment elsewhere on BM that BAFO Tempests seemed to have underwing serials of about 48 inches height. I haven't got that sort of size available so will go with something in the region of 36-40 inches. Unless people advise otherwise, I'll do the spinner in bright red rather than WWII dull red. FWIW the KP Mk II kit isn't bad. Decent-ish shape and nice surface detail but needs a bit of work in some areas and a blind eye being turned to the engine-face which is inaccurate. I'll post up the results idc. Justin
  9. Folks, As I come to the decalling stage of my KP 1/72 Tempest II, I'm trying to find a photo of Frank Carey's PR674. In the absence of a photo, I've found two different profiles, one showing a rounded letter R in the FR-C fuselage codes, and the other showing a more square-shaped R. Which one is correct do we think? http://village.photos/images/user/85d867b2-3601-412b-a045-5eaf6755cd8a/e2c632fb-b840-4830-9996-03fd34aba394.jpeg http://village.photos/images/user/85d867b2-3601-412b-a045-5eaf6755cd8a/0c2101e5-dc6f-4a25-a921-3ed0fc34a2fd.jpg Justin
  10. Probably. Moving on, must agree I love that video, and I hope that one day the 47 will be seen on the other side of the pond. What strikes me about the vid is the sound of the contraprop which seems to generate a high pitched buzz from the front and only after the aircraft passes do you get the roar of the Griffon. Great start to the build. Looking forward to seeing it progress. Justin
  11. Oh yes, I'd forgotten that. Makes it slightly more tricky! Pity that the film, from what others have said here, looks to be stalled, perhaps permanently. I see elsewhere on BM however that a Mr J Travolta, an American gentleman as I understand, is working on a film of Frederick Forsyth's The Shepherd. If that goes well perhaps that will help other British-flavoured projects. Justin
  12. Forgive the slight thread drift, but looking at these great photos I'm struck (again) by the fact that the Buccaneers got the Tactical roundels (and so did the AEW Gannets at the end) whereas the Phantoms didn't, and instead kept the red-white-blue. Does anyone know why? Justin
  13. I'm not near my copy of Harleyford at the moment, but I think that the fake news on this point may have started there... Also I tend to support the view that the XVIII was supposed to have been "the" super-Spitfire, at least as far as the original wing-shaped ones were concerned. But the stop-gap XIV stole the limelight as it was produced earlier and ultimately in greater numbers than the XVIII, much as the IX supplanted the VIII as it was "good enough" to meet the needs of the time. Justin
  14. Top job. I really like the Airfix Mustang, though one has to accept the standard problems that come with each copy of the kit, and which you mention. Thanks for the paint references, particularly the blue for the nose. You've got three little beauties there! Justin
  15. Fantastic modelling. Great Mossie. Love the spinning props too. Justin
  16. Very nice indeed. Really Iike the Buccaneer. Lovely paint job particularly. I have an Airfix RN S2C kit in the stash, waiting for a rainy day. BTW those markings on the AAR probe, are they to show the driver when it's 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and Full? Justin
  17. Just catching up after a while away. Looks the absolute business. Looking forward to seeing 'em finished, when they'll be the envy of any one of us mere mortals who longs for a decent Sea Vixen kit to stick together. Well done! Justin
  18. Very nice indeed. Interesting paint scheme too. I turned my Fujimi/Italeri kit into an RAF F4, and found the wing-fuselage join underneath a pain to get right. Yours looks great, with all the camera gubbins creating further interest. Justin
  19. That looks really great. I'm doing the KP Mk II and it's a lot of work, and there are some shape & detail issues too. Airfix's Mk V looks like the go-to option for a decent Tempest. I need one! Justin
  20. Top job PC, that looks great. Thanks for taking us through the build. Justin
  21. Just wow. Brilliant. Looks like 1/1 scale to me. I'd better just stick to building ones 72 times smaller! Justin
