  1. Here for the GTI meet a brace of red Mk 1 Sciroccos. Obviously loads of Golfs of all eras, but I find them rather boring.
  2. And here it is against my other build. Believe it or not, they're both in 1/24 scale! Yes, I know my workbench is a mess. It's so scruffy I can't bear to put the wheels on yet because the white tyres will get too dirty
  3. Well this turned out not to be as quick as I'd hoped.... Progress is being made, but I'm trying to build up the paint in several thin coats as I'm using brushes. Some parts have had more coats than others at the moment.
  4. And there was me thinking Hornby were just hoping to shift their stock of red and white paint a bit more quickly
  5. Wow that's interesting! I'm currently (very slowly) building the ICM kit of the Model T fire truck. This reminds me I should update my WIP! I had no idea this other kit existed.
  6. Just returned from a checkpoint on the classic rally event on locally this weekend. Highlight was a car almost as rare as its Airfix kit - a Maserti Indy. Also making an appearance were, among others, numerous Mercedes, Porsches, MGs, Alfa and Lancias. The area is also awash with GTIs which have arrived early for a major event in two weeks time. Spotting heaven!
  7. New and old in two days - yesterday the first Tesla Model X I've seen. Today an immaculate Dodge Charger fastback from the 1960s or early 70s.
  8. I found the twin pack with the bus and fire engine in a model shop about four years ago shortly after returning to the hobby. They were in warped red plastic, but the decals were very good. They are actually pretty good kits for a beginner who wants to get a good-looking result with worrying too much about how botched the job is. They still look way better than anything I've built since then. The fire engine was an easier build than the bus.
  9. So is it burnt umber before it's spontaneously combusted or only after the event?
  10. Just one comment - 120 good and 2 bad isn't "overwhelmingly good" feedback on eBay. Plenty of sellers have 100%. I don't worry if it's 99.8%, but if it gets below 99% it's not a good sign. Always check the reviews in that case (as you did).
  11. I suspect they're using the increasingly common marketing strategy of differential pricing. For some people, the price isn't so important- they will willingly pay the new price to get the kit they want. Airfix will later offer the new kits at a reduced price and get the sales of those who are sensitive to the pricing. It allows them to maximize the available profit - at least, that's the theory.
  12. Saw a Citroen CX Safari today. Can't be too many of these still running.
  13. On the way back from the Peterborough show spotted a Victor FD on the A1 near Royston.
  14. If the model is issued, there's nothing to stop you painting the black bits blue!
  15. I use a long dressmaking pin with a ball-head. It both clears the tube and seals it after use.
  16. Progress hasn't been as quick as I'd hoped, but it is starting to come together nicely. It's a very detailed kit with some scarily small parts, but it's fitted together very easily so far. I realised too late that I'd forgotten to sand down the sprue joins on the pipe to the bottom of the radiator, but it's barely visible to the naked eye so I'm going to ignore it.
  17. Love them all, and yours is a deserving winner. I'm intrigued by number 6, the F1-like racing car. How on earth do you start with a 15CV and end up with that?
  18. Those four hour shifts are just perfect for letting enamel paint dry . Welcome.
  19. Arii do a 95 Nissan Skyline police car (Japanese markings) or 89 and 90 Toyota Celsior, all in 1/32 scale.
  20. Interesting to see that the Heller kit isn't the same as the Smer/Merit one. I hadn't looked into it - I just assumed there wouldn't be enough interest in the subject for two different toolings to exist. Sounds tempting, but F1 cars really should be in 1/20 to be compatible with the best. I know Revell do theirs in 1/24, but Tamiya have set the standard to follow. Forced to choose one option, it has to be Tamiya and Fujimi in 1/20. I'm happy to build any other cars in 1/24, but somehow can't bring myself to do it with an F1 car. Andy
  21. The Talbot Lago has just been rereleased by Heller. (I assume it's the same kit, rather than a new tool). It's easy to get hold of at the moment.
  22. If you want to get hold of some, I can recommend the Dapol reissues of the old Airfix railway kits. They're full of it.
  23. I'd be interested to know why someone would make resin copies of a 3D printed part rather than print more copies. Is it because of the cost of 3D printing or because the material is easier to work with or more durable?
