I have been told that the Academy kit is crap. I am currently working on the Tamiya kit and, so far, I have encountered no problems.

I have built the Royal Sovereign but converted to the Royal Oak. These are old molds (Frog I think). They are crude but not too expensive. Can be built into a nice model with a little TLC.

If you want some great info about the builds, go to https://uboat.net/

Vals had fixed undercarriages. Looks like those are for the D4Y Judy

You could try mopdelshipworld.com or shipsofscale.com. Those sites mostly deal with wooden ships.

I had a similar problem with their HMD Glowworm. All I can suggest is to use part D8 to set the angles. HTH

Flagship Models (flagshipmodels.com) have both the Monitor and the Virginia in 1/192 scale. I think people speak well of their kits but I have never built one so I can't comment on that.

Interesting that he has the ship name on his cap tally in 1941 but does not in 1940.

You could also look for "lamp filials" available at a lighting shop or home improvement or hardware stores.

Another trick for PE is o put in on the sticky side of masking tape. When you cut a piece from the fret, it stays put. You can then lift it off and have it fly to another universe but at least you had it for a while.

You could try uboat.net. Lots of info there.

How does one go about getting this? I am definitely interested.

I built their 1/700 HMS Glascow. They are very well molded but a few resin parts would have been better with photoetch. As you say, they are not cheap but you do get what you pay for.

Try checking on modelshipworld.com They might have some info for you

If they are just stripes, you could get some solid colour decal film and cut the strips to shape. The alternative would be to mask and paint.

I have found that Tamiya "Flat Flesh" seems to be close to the colour formerly considered yellow.

Great work. Do you have the contact information for that wooden deck? I really want one.

TIA

I have the Entex boxing of that kit. Unfortunately, there were no instructions with it.
Â
Is there any way I could get a copy of the instructions? I will gladly pay all reasonable expenses.

I use Uschi rigging thread (https://www.uschivdr.com/products-in-detail/rigging/). Stretchy as well

Google "revell paint conversion chart". A whole lot of info there.

I would not be overly concerned. I doubt that they used masking tape on the real thing.

I'm going to struggle to get a straight chuck on the battery powered drill,
I bought some micro chucks for my Dremel. Got them from Amazon a few years back. An absolute necessity. HTH.

"Please excuse the messy work bench." A pristine work bench is a sign of a sick and twisted mind 🙂
