  1. Talking of "fiddly" here are the destructions for the 1/72 IBG Scammell R100 powerplant. Apart from a lot of other details there are six pipes running from the top surface of the two blocks, three per block, on part F26 that feed into the upper side of D23, one for each cylinder if I'm going to attempt the level of detail I'd like to. Here is the engine, yet to be filled and tidied. It isn't very big............................................ I suppose, if I get it wrong I could hide it behind the engine compartment side panels but it would be nice to have something as well-detailed as Berties' fine work as displayed above.
  2. Looking good. The zimmerit roller tool looks very user friendly.
  3. That's certainly what I need - practice. Yours looks like you've practiced a lot already. Your putty snake seems to be moving into all the right places. Nice work! ๐Ÿ‘
  4. This gets better every time I look. IMHO it's a tremendous piece of modelling and painting.
  5. @Model Mate suggested the technique earlier in this topic when I was having grief with my 1/72 Tiger 1 zimmerit. I found the greaseproof paper method facilitated thin non-sticking greenstuff over largish areas (or as large as a 1/72 Tiger allows). I haven't tried the vaseline route yet.
  6. Might greaseproof paper or vaseline serve instead? Not so liquid and runny.
  7. 312 got a direct hit.......... According to Von Rosens' memoir of the occasion it looked like "a giant opened sardine tin"; there was no trace of the crew.
  8. Interesting build. Might the cam be discs with added "ambush" type speckles? I'm debating disc cam for my JP IV L/48 and the above reference might be useful when I come to painting so thanks to @THEscaleSHOW for the pic. I built the Matchbox kit more years ago than I care to remember..........
  9. Thanks Darryl @Jasper dog. I had begun to debate converting this to depict Schwere Pz. Abt. 503 Tiger 312 after receiving a 500lb HE present from a passing Lancaster at the outset of Operation Goodwood..
  10. Thanks @sardaukar. I really appreciate your encouragement. Must confess I'm beginning to flag a bit with this build.
  11. Thanks @Stef N. much appreciated encouragement.
  12. Perhaps it'll look better with some cam and some mud? Or maybe time to call it a day?
  13. If it's only good stuff we're supposed to post here - maybe I better stop....................................
  14. I think I read somewhere that the Firefly gunner that hit him had only fired his 17pdr twice before in practice. His next three shots took out Wittman's Tiger and crew then a second Tiger from his unit. The Firefly was parked in an orchard overlooking the road where Wittman drove past without spotting the allied armour - otherwise the story might have been significantly different.
  15. He did a fantastic piece of work on that Stug - he is an expert for sure. I'm just starting out. I tried the diluted filler route and failed miserably, my modelling putty effort didn't start too well either but practice makes perfect as they say. ๐Ÿ˜“
  16. Thanks Darryl. It wasn't til part way through that I found a better way to get the greenstuff really thin without lifting it when I made the pattern; some of my earlier attempts here look almost as bad as my very early attempts that I sanded off on the very good advice of @M3talpig. Some of it will be hidden behind the fenders, other parts will be hidden by mud. The cam might lessen the effect too as it breaks up the large plain areas of dunkelgelb. We'll see...........................๐Ÿ˜…
  17. A bit more progress with the zimmerit. Reasonable in some areas offset by a bit of a mess in others. First coat of dunkelgelb (also supplied by @M3talpig )on the turret sides tones it down a little. I should have fitted the exhausts before the zim as I had to cut a lot away but then found I could re-attach sections between the exhausts. Still a long way to go but getting there methinks. Hopefully it'll look better with some more paint........................
  18. I lost my points because I hadn't bought from them for ages - cheaper on e-bay etc...๐Ÿ˜‚
  19. Thanks Darryl, much appreciated. I started sanding the zim off the escape hatch and after quite a while with the sanding board the whole of the remainder came off in one piece. Here's the cooling system installed under the rear deck vents. You can't see it from outside but I know it's there.
  20. Mistakes are my trade-mark - but they generate lots of helpful tips ready for the next one.................... Great build btw. Final result looks just as a heavily used and abused KV2 might be expected to look. Can't see any mistakes here.
  21. Very nice Panther. Like the weathering and especially the spattered mud and grime.
  22. In connection with the zim on my Tiger 1 @Model Mate suggested greaseproof paper for spreading and flattening greenstuff. I've found that it works very well and can be peeled away leaving the greenstuff in place.
