  1. Good job!

You have to wet the decals after cutting out and when in position on the tyre. The instructions say:-

    2. Align the decal with the tire so that the letters can be read correctly after removing dirt and oil from the tire, and then run a wet fingertip over it.

    3. After about 1 minute, peel off only the top paper.

    4. After that, wipe off the moisture with a soft cloth.

  2. Interesting choice, I was not aware there was a Fujimi kit of this car.

Looks to me like you're not putting enough paint on? IE the surface layer is not wet enough to allow the leveling agent to do its stuff.

With pre thinned Zero paint I have found you can really lard it on compared to Tamiya spray cans.

As always - the trick is stopping just before it runs!

Chuck it in the 99% isopropyl and have another go, IMHO trying to add more paint at this stage is a waste of paint and time!

  3. After re-reading this thread, I was searching for photos of Blonde Bombshell as I knew nothing about it and came across a fascinating thread on the UK Drag Racing forum, where over 13 years(!) BB1 and BB2 were discussed with many photos being posted by the designer (now working for the Ferrari F1 team) and on page 9 of the thread Barry Bowles himself joined in the dicussion!

There is also a short video of the last run the car made on page 10.

  4. Great update, I know its a bit late, but I found using a small blob of blu-tack on the end of a cocktail stick to pick up the individual chain plates (1/12 bike chain) much better than tweezers for making these chain sets. Suddenly the carpet monster was being deprived of parts!

  5. IMHO its a good kit, no motorisation, accurate engine and gearbox, and nice tyres.

The chrome plating needs removing (obvs) and replacing with your chrome effect of choice.

The (by now de-chromed😆) top front suspension arms are supposed to be trapped in the monocoque before painting, which makes for an awkward masking job, its easy to cut out the pivot and replace it with a removable pin so they can be added after paint.

The kit benefits from adding all the usual details such as the fire suppression pipe which runs round the top inside edge of the tub.

Dump the really horrible oversize kit HT ignition wire and replace with 0.8mm black coated copper wire.

The 003 is as good as the Lotus 72 and better than the Ferrari 312b and much better than the motorised Honda Ra273 and Lotus 49.

  6. I am really pleased you are posting this, as I am currently restoring a Tamiya 72D inbetween other projects.

I agree the Haynes maual is great, I really like that there are plenty of photos and that some parts drawings are included.

The Michael Oliver book is also great, but I just saw that its now going for over 4 times what I paid for it back in 2003!

  7. Well, thanks to @Moggy and @SprueMan for binging ICARE 189 to my attention, I got my copy via bay of E today and its fantastic, the photos where possible are printed pin sharp, previously I had only seen small or out of focus copies, also some not seen before pictures. Now to try out my school boy French!

Are there there are any other good Schneider Trophy magazine/articles out there anyone could recommend?!
