  1. I agree about the Camel, but reckon that lots of casual builders would want a Fokker Triplane as both the Red Baron and Snoopy flew them.
  2. A lot of people don't build WW1 stuff, I only build WW2 while some others only build jets. I respect the sentiment driving the eleventh hour idea though.
  3. Just a quick reminder to let you all know that the voting has opened for 2018 group builds. The voting is starting to heat up a little, so if you're into classic Airfix kits, or just remember them fondly then please give it a go and hit the link below to give Airfix The Golden Years your vote. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235019115-groupbuild-poll-for-2018/
  4. Thanks, rigging is a bit of a pain but worth doing. Seeing the pictures reminded me that I had muddied the tyres ready to place the Swordfish in a diorama next to an Airfix command post, these aircraft were based in Belgium in the winter of 44-45 as E-boat hunters.
  5. Nice choice of kit. I did the all black version a few years back and thought the scheme suited the Swordfish.
  6. Well done, you have made a proud job of this old kit. I remember building one of these a year or two ago and being surprised at what an awkward kit it was to put together, see through plastic and badly fitting parts.
  7. Yes I have long reckoned a Sopwith Camel and Fokker Triplane, because they are the only two WW1 aircraft that most people know.
  8. Thanks Rabbit Leader and what a very impressive line up of builds so far, I am feeling really pleased. Once I have finished my various diy and gardening chores I intend to start pulling my weight on this group build and hope to fill in some of the gaps mentioned by Rabbit Leader.
  9. To be honest I didn't expect that at any point we would be ahead in the vote. Even so it is early days and we are far from the finishing line. Just a reminder the Matchbox Group Build is currently in progress and will be open until mid January.
  10. That was how I finished my Matchbox He-111 a year or two back, I really like the old Romanian markings. The previous owner of this kit did Arniec a big favour by cutting the ventral windows out in my opinion. The spinners look a bit small if you ask me.
  11. The Spit is looking really grand. I built one of these a couple of years ago and remember it being a bit of a dog to build, so extra points there for making it look so good.
  12. Enjoying reading through this and especially so looking at the old pics. There was a very interesting article in Flypast a year or two ago about the Wellesley's use in East Africa against the Italians, if memory serves me right those were the later long canopy versions though.
  13. I just wanted to say that I like what you are doing here with this kit, the desert scheme and use of spares and so on. I was thinking of building one of these myself in the Coastal Command scheme from the Revell kit in my stash. I am however a little put off by the engine cowlings the shape of which appear to be tapered. I could have used my old MPM Wellington engine cowlings, but they are already on my Matchbox Beaufighter. Am I correct about the shape of the cowlings?
  14. Looks good, I will have a butchers on ebay for one of these later thanks.
  15. I'm doing a similar thing, trying to recreate my old collection. Only this time more nicely built and with the addition of kits I wanted but couldn't have.
  16. I think most brands would want both of those aircraft represented in their range, especially so the Corsair. The American aircraft I would most like to see is a P-38. Airfix have already produced two toolings of the P-38 so maybe we could get a third, but I don't think it is very likely. I heard talk of a new B-24 somewhere, I would expect one at some point just not this year. Not long before we find out what's coming out in 2018 now.
  17. Pretty much the same story here now, a lack of independent shops. There was a series on tv a few years back called Dave Gorman unchained, where a comedian took the challenge of driving across America without using any chain stores, motels, petrol stations or restaurants. With a lot of difficulty he just about managed it. A room full of Airfix kits! that sounds like my sort of school.
  18. You are absolutely correct. The only thing is the Matchbox transparencies were that bad that I replaced most of them including the windshield with spare bits from the new Revell Memphis Belle kit.
  19. We never even had to find a hobby store, most of the paper shops sold models back in the old days and a lot of them even sold the paints. I don't know what you call paper shops in California, drug store? Anyway a paper shop in the U.K. is one of those small shops that sell sweets, cigarettes, pens and of course newspapers and magazines.
  20. I have put Martian's name down, nobody is allowed to get away from Airfix that easy.
