  1. That brings back memories. Excellent artwork but I'm not sure when those two marks actually crossed paths in NW Europe.
  2. It was that piece of paper that shaped and led to a lot of future events, and also that piece of paper that defined the outcome of the Great War. Britmodeller is ultimately a democracy and we commemorate the end of the Great War every year not just in 2018. It does often say on War Memorials 1914-19 war, it is a term that is quite widely used.
  3. I wasn't expecting this scenario, but having done the same thing myself in the past with an old Airfix Short Stirling I know that it would be less work just to buy a new kit. Sounds interesting, give it a go.
  4. If it doesn't get in for 2018 then maybe it could go back in for 2019. Officially I think The Great War ended in 1919, so it would still be a centenary build.
  5. I will put your name on the list. Don't forget to vote, things are hotting up in the poll.
  6. Glad to see this kit turn up for the build, like others have already said it is a classic. I remember building this and the other double sets, Monty's caravan and scout car, LRDG set and the German one with the big half track.
  7. Just a quick note to remind everyone that voting for the 2018 group builds is well underway. Please pop over to the group build page and give us your vote. Always room here for more interested people.
  8. That's it, that is how it should look.
  9. Each to their own, speaking for myself I can't think of anything with a 10 in it that I would like to build.
  10. What Hornby has suffered from and is suffering from is the British disease, bad management. This is what happens when brown nosers and yes men take over, common sense and organisation has become a foreign language in this country.
  11. I normally post at least 6 Matchbox builds each year in rfi, and try to enter Matchbox kits in as many group builds as I can manage. All going well I hope to be hosting Airfix the Golden Years group build with Ventora3300 and Lawzer in 2018. Should Airfix the Golden Years get through the 2018 group build vote then I will propose a Frog group build for 2019, if it fails I will throw the Airfix group build back into the 2019 vote and shelve the Frog idea. Should anyone be interested in a classic Airfix group build then please vote for Airfix the Golden Years in the current group build poll without delay. This is exactly the kind of fun I have been enjoying for the last few years since being rebitten by the Matchbox bug. I have come to find new tool kits to be a bit of a dry meal due to lack of room for creativity, it hasn't stopped me from buying all of Airfix's new tool WW2 kits though. Don't forget to vote for Airfix the Golden Years.
  12. That is a very nice model, well done. Here is a picture of two hedgehogs taken by my trail cam in my garden.
  13. It looks like the Russians just cut windows into the original gun nose to me. I think vac forming a clear new nose over a adapted gun nose is the only way to get it 100% right. Personally though I wouldn't be that particular and would adapt an existing clear nose by sanding it down and polishing. Over all the MPM Special Hobby answer is the best one.
  14. You are quite right. I think the tactical voting comes into play when there are two or more group builds fighting to get above the cut off mark. If there were two or more groups level on points for ninth place then a sort of run off takes place with people removing votes from all but the group they most want to get through. Also if someones favorite group has clearly qualified they may then start making second, third and so on choices. The problem I have with group builds is more the timing of them. Sometimes there are several I would like to take part in, while at other times there are none.
  15. There is a lot of voting to be done yet. In some ways the actual voting does not take place to much later. What we see now is partly an opinion poll, nothing is written in stone yet and with so many group builds neck and neck things could change.
  16. I don't think I had even ever heard of a Shrike until now. Glad it is in.
  17. If anyone fancies a Classic Airfix group build to follow on from this next year we should have Airfix the Golden Years group build. People will need to vote for it in the group build poll first though. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235019115-groupbuild-poll-for-2018/&page=3&tab=comments#comment-2868563
  18. Sorry, there was a fair number of old Revell kits that went under the Matchbox brand near the finish.
  19. Frog had almost vanished from the shelves by the time I appeared on the modelling scene in the mid 70's. I did build a few Novo kits back then though, i picked them mostly because they were so cheap.
  20. I think the I-16 is actually an old Revell kit repackaged as Matchbox.
  21. I have never built one but have read that it was the better of the old Havoc kits. Never understood why Revell released this kit under the Matchbox label when there was an actual Matchbox Havoc.
  22. I have that kit in my stash, it is indeed a Revell kit.
  23. Yes an excellent topic. If Airfix the Golden Years group build gets voted in for 2018 I shall propose a Frog Group Build for 2019. There is currently an on going Matchbox Group Build that is really good if anyone fancies joining it. The link below will take you to the Matchbox GB. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/forum/604-matchbox-gb-ii/
  24. I think Swordfish sneaked up on E-boats during the dark using radar, I don't think they were used against them in daylight.
