  1. You've achieved a great finish on this model with some subtle weathering. Interesting to read your comments re the wing / belly. I've got a Revell 772 conversion waiting to be painted and was wondering about not gluing the wings to fuselage to aid storage, the fit is very good and needs slight pressure to push in place. The fuselage didn't have a positive fit and needed quite a bit of work on the seams. Also the cross section was more oval than cylindrical, not too noticeable once built but very obvious on the removed sections. My Zvezda version looks much better on a dry fit. Mike
  2. To be honest, I came across the photo (and liked the nose art) before I bought the decals or the kit.
  3. At the risk of hijacking my own thread 😂 Here is a photo of Lady Liberty returning to Lakenheath in Oct 2018 And I'm thinking along the lines of this asymmetric loadout to match my other two Eagles Mike
  4. Impatient no but eager yes. I bought this from a well known auction site for the F-15 STGB (having previously built the same kit) but entering it in this GB means that I can target my F-15C for the STGB, possibly in this livery As the F-15 STGB doesn't clash with any other GB of interest I might even build another mudhen as well as the "C". Mike
  5. I shall be building this using the Eduard "Striking Eagles" limited edition boxing of Academy plastic, which inludes cockpit and exterior photo etch plus resin seats, wheels and cans. Two Bob's decals for the airframe identity and also perhaps for the stencils. It was hard to choose a specific aircraft from the decal sheet but I like the Twin Towers "Never Forget" logo which was also carried on the port nose. I'm saving my Academy F-15C MSIP boxing for later in the year but also have an Academy "Seymour Johnson" which might make an appearance in this GB - well, plenty of other aircraft to choose from on the decals. Mike
  6. Thanks Dave, Having never built a Hornet I just wanted confirmation that no nose weight was needed (kit instructions aren't always correct 🤣). Re the landing gear, I've managed to find a reference photo of the top of the leg. In real life it pivots at the kit mounting point but the moulding has a flat triangular plate where there should be a cylinder. Guess the protruding pin (unprototypical) is there to ensure the leg is at the correct angle. Mike
  7. Have just been looking at how the main gear legs attach on my kit, can anyone who has built this model confirm that they should sit like this It's strange that the top of the leg doesn't reach the ceiling of the well but I can't see any other way of fitting it. Thanks Mike PS Does it need any ballast weight in the nose - there is no mention of such in the instructions.
  8. The decals drew my attention on the Syhart stand at Telford a few years ago, let's hope the kit doesn't present too many issues as the main point of this build will be the livery. Mike
  9. All decals now applied: So: apply a gloss coat to seal decals panel line wash attach seat belts then finally glue everything to the airframe Mike
  10. Bizarrely, the pictures are now there😀 The cockpit looks great and I like your stand - a simple design but effective. Mike
  11. Hmm, I can't see the photos (just spacer.png) but obviously others can - does anyone have any suggestions? Mike
  12. I like the idea of the aggressor scheme but with repainted national insignia. Mike
  13. Thanks for the link, will have a read before next weekend. If it's like any other Hobbyboss kit the main issues may well be modelling the various compartments closed.
  14. Hobbyboss kit, Syh@rt decals and a livery that actually appeared at several Tiger Meets Mike
  15. F-14A 160384 "203" (still to be repainted after appearing in The Final Countdown) shadows 160386 (200) on a training sortie:
  16. F-14D 164342 waits at Oceana as pre-flight checks are completed:
  17. The finished result on my model - not the best joint where the fillet was inserted but its not really visible at normal viewing angles: and we won't talk about the fit of some of those panels! Mike
  18. Meanwhile, if it helps, have a look at second photo from post on Dec 19th
  19. Will have a look at the same area on mine tomorrow and come back to you.
  20. Thanks. First I retracted wings and drew a pencil line around the wing gloves. Then opened the wings and one at a time, brush painted Tamiya smoke as far as the pencil line and then removed some of it with a cotton bud (lightly dipped in IPA) held against the glove in various positions whilst opening / closing wing. Mike
