  1. Thanks Cliff. I’ll dig out the materials needed for this build.
  2. I’m hoping a Westland Wasp will be OK in this GB. According to Wikipedia ‘The Wasp HAS.1 was introduced to service in the small ships role in 1964, after an intensive period of trials by 700(W) Intensive Flying Trials Unit between June 1963 and March 1964.’. It’s a bit tight but hopefully it just sneaks in.
  3. It’s taken a bit of time to put together some bits and pieces for the interior, as well as get them painted but now done, along with some work on the engine. Eduard seat belts added as well. Then everything took off quite quickly, first the interior added and the fuselage closed up. Wings on, and for an elderly kit the fit is really quite good and slipped together quite well. The empanage was a bit more challenging with a fair amount of flash. It’ll probably need a bit of filler once dried.
  4. A bit more work on the wings. Also a bit more on the engines, and the interior jazzed up a bit with some seat belts. and the instrument panel transfer added.
  5. Empanage on, nice fit with the option to deflect the rudder and elevators. Not simulating a landing accident just imitating it for the glue to dry on the tail plane.
  6. The wings assembled (with the obligatory glue finger mark) and the rear fuselage attached. Thanks James, things are moving bit by bit and I’m hopeful I’ll get over the line before the end.

  8. There’s been a hiatus for various reasons but I’ve created some time to get going again. I’ve painted the wings before joining to get a nice demarcation on the leading edge. There was a little bit of cleaning up needed, but nothing too taxing. The interior is rudimentary in the least which would be fine with a Novo canopy but the Falcon canopy is crystal clear and thin so something is needed. Therefore I’ve added some stringers and IPs long with something to represent the large circular control wheels characteristic of the Master. And a rear bulkhead.
  9. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to do much work, loads of things going on; trips to Scotland for the rugby, our bathroom being taken apart and rebuilt (still going on) and multiple health appointments. Finally got round to starting some work on the Blenheim and others. Built up the wing inner parts and added the undercarriage legs.
  10. DH Sea Venom FAW21, finished as XG693 of 894 NAS from HMS Albion in the late 1950s. CyberHobby in 1:72 scale. Built OOB apart from some etch seat belts and finished in Xtracrylix Extra Dark Sea Grey and Citadel Ceramite White varnished with Liquitex Satin varnish. It’s a bit over engineered and not altogether accurate but looks pretty good when done. At least it’s completed after starting it in the Salty Dog GB last year.

And finally going to the gallery.

And the final transfers around the cockpit done, so effectively finished. I do have a couple of drop tanks but the location holes have disappeared under the underwing serials so I’m wondering about not adding them. Also they will be primarily over the transfers so may not adhere well. I’ll have a little think before the final photoshoot and popping into the gallery.

A couple of coats of satin varnish and the masking off. Just the transfers around the .canopy to do now and we’re finished. I think it’s looking good.

I use Village Photos as my hosting site and this sometimes happens. Usually if you right click the link the image will appear.

The remaking stencils on, though I omitted some of the small ones as black stencils on ESDG don’t show up. I also tidied up the checks with some offcuts of black from the parts I didn’t use. Then the undercarriage and arrestor hook on. A little bit of tidying up to and then some varnish. I think satin is appropriate. Once varnished I’ll remove the masking from the canopy and to finish add the warning strips around the canopy. I have tested it to see if it sits on the undercarriage and does, and has the sit of a Sea Venom. However, I have flipped it back over to ensure the glue is really solid.
  16. Started on some sub sections. The first being the joining of the fuselage sides. Then the cockpit interior which was a bit fiddly. And the engines started.

The rest of the markings on and a start at the stencils. I decided to bite the bullet and cut up the chequered markings for the wing tanks. It was much less of a chore than I thought it would be. There’s a little bit of tidying up needed underneath, which will take a little while trimming of a little excess and adding some black block from that which is left over but not too much work.

And now some of the transfers on. Most of the markings and upper wing panel warnings. In general, they are done by Cartograph and are in good register but did take a while to soak off the backing paper, but once they did they settled well. There's some more, mainly small and a myriad of stencils so there will probably be a couple more sessions. And I’ve left the checks for the wing tanks as a bit of dissection will be required.

Masking removed and the underside given a coat of Kleer so glossy for transfers.
  20. A start with some cleaning up and some paint on. The interior will need a little work, especially if there’s going to be lovely vac formed canopy. Has maybe revealed more work needed in cleaning up.
  21. Thanks on initial look overall it’s not too bad but lacks detail, and those detail parts included lack, shall we say, some finesse! I’ll maybe do that Pat, thanks. I should have sufficient in the stash if that fails but I don’t relish putting together the tiny fuselage serials.
  22. For Sky Grey I tend to use Camouflage (Barley) Grey from Xtracrylix. Once matted down it looks fine but I’m not sure what a Humbrol or Revell equivalent might be.
  23. There is an Airwaves set to give an interior and wheel bays. I don’t know how available it is currently though. All the best with this a Gannets always look good. I think the AS1/4 more so than the AEW but it’s down to one’s taste.
  24. First up after a little bit of paint was to remove the erroneous intakes on the front of the cowlings. I think these came from Airfix scanning an airframe that was originally a MkV. And then some more paint on. In the previous builds the wing leading edge join has been excellent so I’ll see if I can paint the upper and lower wings before glueing them and hope I get a good demarcation. Thanks James, the are lovely kits of a rather beautiful aircraft.
  25. The Airfix Blenheim has been built a few times in BM and I previously built a both a MkI and a MkIV of 771 NAS based at RNAS Twatt. So a quick look in the stash revealed this one as well. I had laid down some paint previously but that’s all. I have some aftermarket, the masks are vital for the Blenheim’s glass house and turret, while I’ve got a selection of transfers. I’ll use the markings for 787 NAS the Naval Air Fighting Development Unit. I’ll add in some etch seat belts but otherwise OOB.
