  1. Excellent photography! Still like the looks of the F-15. Interesting to see paint chipping on the wings.
  2. Gunze Mr. Paint Thinner. Will not harm clear parts either.
  3. Well.... I might as well scratch another one off my list that I can't do better! I still haven't started my Su-33! Seriously, can't wait to see your work.
  4. Martin: The Tempest saw increased performance from a substantially thinner and all together new wing than the Typhoon. Also the horizontal and vertical tail surfaces were increased in area. ( Some late Typhoons can be found with the "Tempest" horizontal Stabs ) Also of note, the fuselage was extended something like 22 inches in between the cockpit and engine cowl. These and other more subtle changes ( like spring tab ailerons ) resulted in a faster and much more maneuverable aircraft. Fast enough to be used for chasing down doodlebugs. Disclaimer: This was all regurgitated from memory so if there are any errors please feel free to correct me. Chris: Very smart looking build! I love the Tempest and I agree the Heller kit is a keeper! Nice work!
  5. Hang in there Andrew, you are not alone in dealing with these problems. I have them as well. Friends you can trust can be a big help. As far as the Beaufighter is concerned. I think it looks wonderful! On top of that it is a perfect platform to try future weathering and painting tricks before committing to something that you have put more time into. Remember, cut yourself some slack. You can't take care of anything if you don't take care of yourself first.
  6. Wow! Very sinister looking. I really like the paint scheme you chose. What did you use as a panel line wash?
  7. Nice job Russ! I have that kit and I know it lives up to it's nickname! Did you have any issues? I had to lengthen one fuselage half to match the other so that it would line up. Anyway, Well done!
  8. Use extreme caution when tipping the open bottle. NEVER tip the open bottle of thin CA toward your model! It will splash out of the smallest tip opening and put spots of CA on your model. I only apply the thin stuff from a puddle on a glass or metal sheet with a dental pick.
  9. Thank you for the response that is good info! so... Were there any P-40B's that did not have the reflector gun sight and where would the ring and bead be located if it did not?
  10. Thank you. I have seen that picture as well. However I am still in the same spot regarding R.T. Smiths #47
  11. Were all the P-40B iron gun sights offset to starboard? I am working on the 1/48 Airfix kit and I have chosen to use the markings for R.T. Smith's #47. Now Airfix has you use the windscreen with the review mirror and no reflective gun sight panel . Does this mean that this particular plane had only the iron sights? I don't know, but if it did only have the iron sights would it still be offset? Or would it be centered? I have exhausted my resources.
  12. Hewy, Looking great! What filler are you using? As for the canopy paint stripping, have you tried Mr Paint thinner from Gunze? I have found that it does not attack styrene and can clean up clear parts without hurting them at all. I really like the presence that your build has, can't wait to see it finished!
  13. Finally! Someone with the intestinal fortitude to start this kit so I can learn from them! What decals did you use for the instrument panel? I will be watching this build with much interest!
  14. What a nice build! Looks incredible! Nice photography too.
  15. Oh wow! I like that. The panel line treatment is just superb!
  16. Beautiful work! I think I like your softer version of camouflage than the real thing! That J-15 looks real nice too!
  17. Very nice! I think you nailed the paint and weathering.
  18. Wow, I hope I can finish my MiG to look as good as that!
  19. Thanks Dana, I suspected that it was about carbon monoxide but wasn't sure. I never had heard about this before! I love it when I learn something which has slipped my attention for so many years! Thanks for the lesson!
  20. I have been studying and learning about Corsairs for many years now and I don't know what is being talked about in this thread. What is meant by "CO extraction system" ? If I am not mistaken the wing intakes are for the super charger inlet, inter coolers and oil cooler with the flap on the underside of the wing for the oil cooler outlet. The central large outlet was meant to control the inter cooler air and keep the engine accessory bay ventilated. I could be wrong, I often am. If anyone knows better please chime in.
  21. Try a adding a bit of radome tan to the base color or coat it with some very old and yellowed furture floor polish. Good luck, love the look of the SparkVark.
  22. Excellent work again Russ, I love it! Absolutely spot on! You build like I do, in my imagination at least!
