Regarding the rarity - that is true, I am on BM 10 years and I think no more then five of them were here on RFI (including my second one ) I am glad to hear, that you like it, thanks The shapes of this concept of Savoia (not only 55, but also a land variant SM 60, or bigger SM 66 ) - they are truly unique due to a vanishing of fuselage in some way... Roman, many thanks! Indeed - a bit off-road ride... Thank you very much! In the original early variant from 1924 the cockpit was open, so the noise must be even more intense. Hi, Savoia Marchetti SM 55 was a very successful design of an Italian flying boat in 1924, so 100 years ago (what?!). It was produced in short series of different variants, which although similar in general outlook differ a lot in details. Almost 250 of them were constructed. The Royal Romanian Naval Aviation (RRNA) got seven Savoia Marchetti SM 55A about 1930. They served till the end of WW2 at least. The WIP is here This is a photo from a private resources, which I have found on Romanian FB, I was trying to follow it assuming Italian Grigio Scuro as top camo color The model is Dora Wing SM 55A kit with some modifications on floats surface (see WIP when need details) Here is the results: This is my second SM 55, the first (SM 55X) was done five years ago from Delta 2 kit in Italian livery from Spanish Civil War. I have installed a torpedo on the bottom of center part of wing As it can be likely seen I added the control cables, which in SM 55A goes on the surface of wings. Perhaps it finished . Anyway I will go with it to RFI... I will give the link for future users in separate post. Now the SM 66 is the current subject to go go on with first, then SM 74, 75 and 84... Regards J-W

Hi, Since I finished SM 73 and approaching to the end with SM 55A I start to think seriously on starting a next one. Namely I look through I have on SM 74,75 and 84. I have found interesting info on SM 75. I am going to build is as Hungarian machine. The new for me Hungarian article is here https://felderitokblogja.blog.hu/2021/04/12/egy_alkalmatlan_eszkoz_kalvariaja_a_savoia-marchetti_sm_75_repulogep_tortenete . The Google translator helped... It seems that military service of them started in September 1939 till some mid 1943 when remaining machines were replaced by Fiat G 12. Two SM 75 were lost in accidents: E 102 in April 1941 in war against Yugoslavia and E 105 later. After the second crash the remaining E 101,103 and 104 were converted to ambulance. It is said that they were painted yellow and red crosses were added - but on available photos they have just yellow tips of lower part of wings and yellow belt the remains is untouch. The another interesting info is that the ventral gun position was taken from Ju-86 and the dorsal one was constructed by Breda. They were installed in Hungary during militarization of civilian machines in Autumn 1939. The engines were GR 14, so double row 14 cylinders one. In ambulance voariant (this is what I am planning to do) 8 bed for stretchers were installed instead of 24 seats. All photos but one (from front) wich I have show initial markings - the arrows. On one are white crosses on black square, but since they served till mid 1943 all remaining three machines are suppose to were them as well... Hi, I have the Italeri LA 5FN kit which I did some almost 50 years ago in the OOB livery, so the green/brown colors. Now it is known, that those colors are false. I want to do some repaint work which will destroy the decals. From the same time I have a part of the ESCI decal set for Lavochkin, however I cannot find the profile (instruction) for it. The decals are in good condition, as the decals for Brazilian P47 were, which I did few weeks ago. The decals contain some Rissian inscription, so it makes them attractive. I would like to ask two questions on them: 1. Does anybody have the instruction sheet (color profiles) for this set? (I did not found it in NET) 2. Are they reliable concerning the modern knowledge of them? If not - how it should look like? Regards J-W

One figure as example what you can find in this archive. So we have drawings showing the shapes of French WW2 bombs with dimensions! In last few years I constructed series of French models and in I think all of kits (of bombers) there was no such element included. I am sure that there is a room for an aftermarket set "French WW2 bombs set" in 1/72, 1/48 and perhaps 1/32 as well.... Regards J-W

I have doubts how the control cables to ailerons and elevator goes on SM 55. To elevator they goes along the boom on the inbourd side, but how or where they cross the surface and goes inside the cabin? I suspect but I am not sure that to ailerons they goes also on an external side of wings, so on surface, like in many early airplanes however I cannot find any picture where it cross the surface... Any help please...

Hi I added MGs, driving elements of control surfaces (I do not know the proper name even in Polish, otherwise I will use the google translator to fine proper term in English...) and applied first layer of Mat varnish (Vallejo) Only torpedo left to attach and corrections of painting... BTW - the Romanian torpedo is the Italian one - do they have a special color for warhead? The hull-wing fairings in Sm 66 looks better, I think: Howewver some small correction must be done. So it goes slowly, but goes Regards J-W

Sorry, I overlooked this question,... WhatI can tell is just about the damaged rudder - indeed it looks like a damaged horn balance of rudder. Cloudio, I cannot confirm, but from the huge difference in darkness I will vote for 71/02/65. Regards J-W

Such holed fairings were common in early 1930s US machines like Boeing P12 and P26, early 247, Ford Trimotor, Nortrop Gamma....all with ring, not NACA cowling. I agree that with cowling it is not common...The aim must be related to optimal cooling

PZL 37 having also Pegasus engines has also fairing, of another kind a bit, though

I started work on MGs at SM 55A With SM 66 I am wrestling with float-wing connection... BTW - I think I will go to black regarding the bottoms of floats/hulls... The machine when was civil had intense blue (I think). But the color looks rather dark... To be cont. Cheers J-W
