About Me

40 year old ex-pat Brit currently living overseas in Sydney, Australia. Originally from South Yorkshire I am a former member of IPMS Farnborough following a spell living in Berkshire/Hampshire for 8 years and still keep tabs on the impressive activity of those lads through their website.  Now a member of IPMS New South Wales.

The first kit I made (with the help of my Dad) was in 1986, an Airfix, Series 2, 1/72 Lockheed F-80C Shooting Star, which got me hooked. The most recent kit I have built this year, using the Italeri 1/72 Hawk Mk.100 kit and the excellent Model Alliance 'Commonwealth Hawks' Decal Set, is a Canadian Air Force CT-155.

The fact my Dad took me to regular Airshows as a nipper (mostly RAF Finningley, Mildenhall, Alconbury, Duxford, Farnborough and Fairford) means that my main modelling interest cover Aviation largely. I have however purchased Armour, Maritime and Automotive kits in recent times for something different.

Having been a stop-start modeller for years I'm looking forward to devoting more time to our hobby and putting a sizable dent into the stash of kits currently dominating my closet!

Previously a builder in a rush to complete models and enjoy the fruits of my labour on my back-bedroom shelf and someone who always thought "what's the bloody point of painting/detailing that, when you won't be able to see it at the end?!", I found myself losing interest in modelling until I realised it is because I have not been improving.

As a many a wise man has said in relation to the importance of enjoying the journey and not just the destination I have decided to join this Forum in a big push to improve my skills and have more fun along the way. And yes, there will be additional detail applied in hard to see areas, I'll know it's there after all!

Cheers,

Jon
