  1. Thank you sir. I really appreciate these comments. Great motivation to get on with my next project for him. It's a part started one off nearly scratch built Ork er. . . . I'd say main battle tank but they call it something different. Big trakk mega blasty wotsit thing! Based on the ork trukk half track conversion. (This one he paid for the bits!) no pics anywhere until it's complete because it's a surprise for all. It will be totally unique. (Click a pic, it should take you to high quality pictures on my flickr profile, there are more finished shots of this model)
  2. Cheers. Proper cheers! I couldn't afford this either! All told its a £100 or so inc. case etc. So far and by a big margin this is my most expensive complete kit. My time I guess has some value? My brother (who is older) well his face was like his 7 year old christmas face when I presented this to him. He really wanted a squiggoth so I got it him, actually he was so enthusiastic about this model I was left no choice. I can tell when I see him look at it, that he more than appreciates this. He saw some of the work in progress but never saw the armour being painted or the rider mod. also he never knew about how it was to be displayed. Those were special surprises for him. I must say I was a little reluctant to give it him but it has no place in my cabinet. "Ork Scum" next to my heroes of the empire. I'm a marine commander! I eat orks for breakfast!
  3. Modified rider Modified gunsight This is the forge world sguiggoth. This model took me a few hundred hours to complete over a period of about 18 months. This is my first all resin model that I've finished, it represents many first time achievements for me as a model maker. The kit is quite good although some of the flash (which is normal for resin) is a lot thicker than most resin items that I've used on my other models kits (Aires/FreightDogModels). It is slightly softer too, although the forge world resin is fairly consistent (I have loads in boxes!) it is expensive if you consider £ v's quality. That being said it still builds up well with very little filler being used, the legs are the most difficult joint to fit and align, some of the scales need reworking. I have modified this kit from the box (or bag!) the additions/mods are the rider/guider, the gunsight and the two rear most totem poles. The arms on both figures required some work to get the arms to sit right. The reigns are from Christmas cracker jewellery. The gun barrel, which must be bought separately, has been drilled and his missing tooth is the result of "an accident". I dropped it! The worst part about this model is that I had to give it away, I built it for my brother, it was a free gift for him. Inspiration drawn from crocodile, blue tongued lizard and spotted gheko. All paints from games workshop except Matt varnish which was humbrol. The base is mainly tamiya texture paint with some odd bits dotted about, old paintbrush bristles for long dry grass and more random bits and pieces from various sources.
  4. I've been to your flickr page, you make great models! It's nice of you to say this. (I'll be back to your flickr when time allows, some favourites I see for sure) I really like how you displayed your red arrows team! Very good sir!
  5. Thanks a lot everybody. Adrian here's the secret, the grass mat is ready made from noch scenics, natur+ spring meadow I think it was. (Shhhh) I staged this photo quickly to make the black and white renders, the one at the top of the page is my version of how it would look in a book, I've a black and white version of the last image which I tried to make look like a period film camera. FalkeEins, yes I couldn't believe that sheet was in an Airfix kit! It was nice to see, even better to use. I was expecting them to be unusable but actually (apart from the box image being so small and needing alternative referencing) they worked very well. Well above my expectations.
  6. As you seem to be a spitfire fan, The history of airframe RM 643 Z CHA benson 28-5-44 106 Gpwp 21-6 541s 22-7 EA 26-1-49 AGT GAT refurb and mods 12-1-51 29MU 5-6 NEA 4-5-53 C-5 9-9 (That's what is in the book, which I think translates to,) Chattis hill, benson 28-5-44 (delivery date) 106 group wastage pool? 21-6-44 (I think it's a spare aircraft) 541 squadron 22-7-44 Eastleigh 27-1-49 Air work General Trading (Gatwick) refurbishment and modifications 12-1-51 29th Maintenance Unit 5-6-51 Non Effective Aircraft? 4-5-53 (C-5) category 5 damage 9-9-53 (damaged beyond economical repair) I'm not sure what a non effective aircraft is? No longer good enough for the RAF maybe? It was still airworthy at this time.
  7. Thank Phil, I promise it's 1/72! Espen, the film was on the telly, the one that got away. I also thought it very interesting. So I go to the model store and see this kit with these decals all in the same box! Yes please! Cheers to you both.
  8. This is what stops me building things! I start going over details and get nothing done! I do read a lot more though! I can find 22 RM registered spit XIXs. RM626-647 I think you are almost right, the VIII was in development to replace the V. The FW190 forced us to make the IX a quick fix, the prototype was based on the V with a Merlin 61. The first IX spits were definitely Mk V conversions. From what I can tell, the difference between the two XIXs is the F Mk VII pressure cabin. I'm tying to find definitive answers to the VIII theory. (Some time has passed!!!!!!) Here we go. . . You are right on this. Pressurised XIX, basic FVIII fuselage, FVII Pressure cabin, wings as for PRXI Sixteen pressure cabin PRXI (Merlins) were used to get a supply to the RAF, followed by 22griffons with no pressure. Most of the bits to make an XIX come from an XIV or XI, the XIV is an VIII airframe with a different engine. Looking at it more closely all that is missing from the Airfix box is beefed up canopy rails. Your second build looks like an VIII conversion. (Hopefully everybody is happy!) For what it's worth, most pictures seem to display the pressurised cabin looking quite close to Airfix example. Some pictures the clarity is not so good and the bubble is invisible in the photograph. This may have changed again, all of this information I interpreted from the Morgan and Shacklady spitfire book, which is OLD! Edited, the xi is a variant of the IX minus guns and some armour with pr Mk IV l.e. Fuel tanks plus a few other mods. but basically an IX. The pr XI variant PR VIII was abandoned. There is more on this but I'd basically be reproducing the book!
  9. Mr spitfire! Yes I was thinking about the freightdog option! The step I'm talking about is the difference between Airfix and aftermarket, it looks way low on the original piece. I only noticed that now the two are side by side. (I wasn't nit picking the build! I'd deserve a slap for picking that out) barely a starboard dimple! . . . You could use micro filler primer for that though? In 1/72 maybe no? I started using that on my last bike kit, great stuff. (My kits usually also have a "good side") Now I've just checked, some spit XIXs have the Airfix style canopy so that is correct. Is it an age thing? Early XIX had old style rear canopy like the IX, newer XIX had lower style same as Airfix boxed item?
  10. Thanks guys, or peoples to be P.C. Pleasing and very nice are certainly goals I think! Most of the weathering is games workshop black thinned to nothing and layered on, the rest is overspray and powder. Just a little drybrushing here and there. All weathering painted onto block colour, I haven't tried that preshade thing yet as I'm newish to airbrushing, I've had it for a few years but I don't build much, or better, I don't finish much of what I start! I'm glad you like it mike. I do feel welcome! So cheers.
  11. Thanks for that info! (I was hoping that the markings would be on a sheet) My build was the Swedish markings (post war) so I guess they are correct ish? (I'm a sucker for red spinners!) One build I plan is a Mk IX conversion to PR. based on this kit using the freightdog resin. You may be interested in that? You may not if you like the griffon! I won't need those parts but I'm sure I've a few of this type to build before I "go" (I've just noticed the canopy step on the rear glazed section and I've been looking at that model for a few years now!) Maybe I'll need the canopy! Following this for future reference!
  12. Nice, one thing I want to learn are these Luftwaffe style paint finishes. Good work.
  13. Walk around, This is my version of the Airfix kit, there may be some dispute over the colours I used! It was painted with tamiya paints and weathering sets. Pretty much from the box, I just added aileron trim tabs and fixed the wing root fillet using plastic sheet. Xtradecal swastika. It is not a new build but I'm new here. This is my first aircraft "ready for inspection"
  14. Good job, this is a great kit. It was my first experience of new tool Airfix. Whose decals did you use? I'm going to build another, I may need to get them exhausts! They look much better. Side by side you can see those details and the difference they make.
