  1. I'm in. Hopefully with a reasonably logical BAC Sea Lightning, with technical justifications for all design decisions. No promises though - it may end up as a Martin Baker MB-5 in Western Desert colours, depending on time available. :)

  2. What about a naval destroyer group build ?

Plenty of scope for subject matter I.e. destroyers from any era, any nation and any level of technology.

    What does everyone think ?

    Rick

Cue 1/9th model of a girl swinging a hula hoop with a nail in it around her hips. I'm in with that!

And the Back in Black GB sounds like it could be a blast.

  3. I'd love a 24th kit of the Metro 6R4. Because that thing just screams "I am an animal!". My ex managed the Tamiya Peugeot 205 a long, long time ago, and I do love the sexy little Stratos (I have a couple of those in the stash..) And I think I still have a couple of Celicas and Corollas, as well.

Edit: I looked it up, and there is a 24th 6R4 kit available. But it's resin, limited edition, and not very cheap (over Au$200). So I shall qualify my earlier remark with a '24th PLASTIC, AFFORDABLE kit of a Metro 6R4.' ;)

  4. I prevent it by building models, but not finishing them. :D

Seriously, if there's doubt about their integrity, a test run with a dispensable one is advised, and if it cracks, an overcoat of clear varnish, Future or Microscale's Liquid Decal Film on the rest of the sheet and then a close trim *before soaking the decal from the paper* will usually solve the problem. Again, testing your chosen remedy is advised before committing to it wholesale.

In other news, I recall an article in (possibly, because it makes the most sense) Tamiya Model Magazine from a decade or more ago, where they went for a tour of Tamiya's factory - the decals were stored in a huge, temperature and humidity controlled room, in drawers. There were no details that I can recall of the actual temp or humidity though.

I think a lot has to do with the inks and clear coats used in the decal making process - I too have seen old decals on ratty paper that have worked perfectly well, and newer ones that have gone to seed. I keep kit decals in the boxes they arrive in, as a rule, and any aftermarket ones in their sleeves/bags/envelopes in a box file. Seems to work (so far), and I live in the tropics. (My camera gear, OTOH, is in a dry cabinet, but that's a whole 'nother kettle of worms, innit?)

  5. Nice. I have the old LS Luger PO-8 kit half made up that I should finish, and would if it was even close to legal to own. Seeing as it's not, it stays half built (badly, I've had it a long time) in its box, in the deep stash.

  6. All you real Lotus owners... I feel quite lower class with my humble Soobie. What was it that Clarkson said that time? "That is the throb of a flat four turbocharged engine, a sound which all over the world heralds the imminent arrival of a moron." I resemble that remark.

  7. Nothing to show in photos. The monster is half-built and likely to remain that way. But if enough people want, I'll dig it out and make some photos - there's not much to see...

Robin, the twin-cam Ford in your orange beast looks like my Esci Cosworth - would I be correct in assuming it to be so?

I can't add anything to the pool about the real 'uns, as Loti are somewhat thin on the ground where I live - they'd fall to pieces just driving up to get the morning milk. I drive an '09 Subaru WRX - quick, but probably nowhere near as much fun a 7. A lot more practical though.

  8. I have a couple of the Tamiya 24ths in my stash, one half converted into a monstrosity with flared rear guards, cycle fenders, wide alloys with low profile tyres, a scratched independent rear end and a resin copy of the Cossie BDA from the Esci Crystal Escort RS1800 kit, fitted with a scratch fuel injection manifold (yeah, the real one would be a hoot, methinks ;) ). The other is still in its box, untouched. I also have the Tamiya 12th Caterham, bought as a started kit from eBay a number of years ago - the original owner had attached the panels and glued a few bits, but there's a lot of work still to do (and I want to find a way to use rivets instead of screws to hold the panels in place.)

One day, I'll finish at least the monstrosity. Maybe.

  9. Thanks for the IM Rick.

The most definite entry will be a scratch Merganser/Dotterel from Charles Sheffield's McAndrew stories - there's some major dimensions and details given, but I'll have to fake the rest. Also on the list as a possibility is Rama, from the Arthur C Clarke story familiar to all of us (and if you're not familiar with it, stop messing about with that silly Roddenberry nonsense and get some real SF into you. (We need an icon for 'snob'.)) Again, major dimensions known, the rest is (un)informed guesswork.

It's also possible that I may do something from film/tv, but not sure if I will yet - I have a few half-finished projects, so I'm loathe to start anything new. 2 will do for a start, I think.

  10. Hi guys,

I'm wanting a 2F.1 for a project, can't find one. I do have the Eduard F.1 version, I'm wondering if anyone's done a conversion, and if so, where did you get information - there's a lot of 'stuff' online about it (photos and words), but no really firm dimensions/drawings etc. My main sticking point is the narrowed undercarriage, which is referenced in numerous places, but nothing in the way of actual data. And and all leads welcome, thank you.

Secondly, is the Wind-Sock Datafile on the type worth getting, as far as plans etc go? Again, all comments welcome.

    Thanks...
