  1. All the Javelin love! I've had a thing for this airframe ever since I saw a photo of one in an old Airfix Annual (which I still have, and that aircraft is in the new 48th Airfix kit... frabjous day!) I made a start on the old Heller T.3 many years ago, well before I knew anything about subtypes and marks, and it got put away as too much work. I will have to dig it out from the bottom of the pile and make a finish from the start. One day, right after I sort out the easier shelf of doom denizens.
  2. There was an all black F-14 Tomcat at one point. They're sorta kinda F-111ish.
  3. E-1/B, ETC, for heaven's sake speak English, man. Why couldn't the Germans have some it the same way Hawker did, eh?
  4. Question for those what know... I have the Airfix Dogfight Double set A50160, with what is apparently a Bf 109E-7 in it. From a bit of research, it appears that I can use this as a BoB airframe (not the decals, wrong theatre), but seeing as I'm no Luftwaffle experten, I'm after confirmation that it's suitable. If I get a yes, I'll start the never ending task of looking for markings. Thanks.
  5. My apologies George, I didn't even notice that it was 48th - in my defence, I've been following Stew's Matchbox Lysander build and well... you know what they say about assumptions. It's a pretty simple conversion though, so it should be within your capabilities; the biggest issue will be the rear turret, assuming that you're going for the 'operational' version as opposed to the prototype. I'll follow along, partly from interest, partly from penance.
  6. Airmodel do a rather nice vac conversion for this, and the chap who runs it is great to deal with. I ordered the P.12 and a number of other things from him last year (because it made sense re postage) - they arrived safely and quickly, and look pretty good too. http://www.airmodel.de/product_info.php?info=p171_westland-p-12-tandem--wing--lysander.html
  7. No wonder the Germans lost, they only had half the number of aircraft... I may try to redress the balance later (or at least balance my entries) by doing something mit der black crosses. Time depending, of course.
  8. So many possibilities here, from ancient Chinese kites to the SR-71, cavalry troops to satellites and all manner of floaty things as well. Something for everyone. Get into it guys, it'll be fun!
  9. While you were at it Hendie, did you happen to come across any of the videos that show the HV powerline inspection guys, who work in Faraday suits from helicopters? Here's a link to one...
  10. Nice to see one of these done Jessica. I had that kit until a few years ago, when I decided I'd never do it, and sold it at a local club swap meet. (I say that a lot, don't I? Bugger.) Yours looks very nice indeed. I wonder if I can remember who I sold mine to...?
  11. Looks excellent. Certainly much, much, much (ad naseuem) better than the one I did when I did one, when I was but a nipper. Truth be told, I'm not sure I could do any better now than I did back then... hmm. Two thumbs up, sir!
  12. Lovely work there Mr Dapple. I am following one of these on eBay, because I am a sad, sad man. With luck, it will quickly exceed my self-imposed spending limit, and I'll miss out on it.
  13. Ah, anuvver Glad. You go first, and I'll nick ideas off you. Thanks in advance. That looks like a right nice little kit. Should be fun to do, and to watch.
  14. Oh, 'jubi-LEEs'... I misread that - I need to get out more, I think.
  15. Given the often mixed-up state of the aviation industry around the world, I think that a case-by-case study could be allowed for types in the situations above - indeed, not just for aircraft, but anything that fits. It does however bring into the discussion the other side of the coin, as it were - British designs that were modified by others, the Gnat/Ajeet being one that comes to mind. Or the Ordnance Quick-Firing 6-pounder 7 cwt, adopted (and modified) by the US in '43... Possibly, anyone who wants to build something that isn't easily identified as 'all-British' should be asked to prove the pedigree to the satisfaction of the mods. Preferably using readily accessed references. Or easier still, if there's a question about pedigree, it can't be built (that may disappoint some, but it will make arguments invalid.)
  16. Popcorn already? Crikey, that's intimidating... It actually looks like a pretty nice kit, and will most certainly be an easier build than the Eduard Hannover Cl.III I started for the LBAF GB. That one will have to wait, and hopefully this more modern kit will give me some skills in biplane engineering. I may only be building one a/c, but I have as many wings as you. Nyah, nyah, nyah.
  17. Thrill a minute stuff, this modelling caper, innit? I did eventually get my EE Lightning GB Hasegawa F Mk.6 completed, albeit somewhat ex post facto. There's a couple of thingies on the bench at the moment that are almost complete (a Hasegawa Vanship from the anime 'Last Exile' and a Revell RifRaf and his Spitsfire), along with a couple of others (OK, a couple of couples, plus a few) that are further away from completion, including my entries in both the Lesser Built AF GB and the French Fancy GB... As a result, the 2 almost complete ones will take building precedence, the rest will go to the back corner of the bench, and when I have a space, the Sea Glad will be happy to get going, even if it will be late to enter the fray. (At least I'm here right at the start.) Box, sprues, decals et al, photographed as required. ('scuse the ugly photos - phone camera late at night, I will endeavour to do better when it comes time.) There are 2 options suitable for use in the box, but I'm not yet sure which will get the guernsey to take part in the scrum - one has a pilot's personal markings on it, t'other is a generic squadron airframe; I guess we'll see what we see when we see it (how's that for decisive, eh?) The roundels, flashes and codes may be junked for painted ones, as Roden's versions are very bright and look quite thick - if anyone's used them, I'd appreciate some info on how well they work, please. More anon.
  18. Maybe, but they was flyin' Messerchmitts. (For them as knows the old joke.)
  19. I'm sorry to hear that Martin. I have no personal experience with the disease, but I do know of it. I'll endeavour to further entertain you.
  20. Heathen. To the connoisseur, that is a crime of unforgivable proportions. Ideally, they won't even be peeled. (This is now officially silly.)
  21. If that was for me, Martin, I'm glad to have brought some small joy into your life. As a fellow sore leg sufferer (gouty arthritis in both knees, with occasional forays into my feet), you have my sympathies - I've had times over the last 5 years where I could barely hobble from bed to the loo. Long story, but thankfully my new GP did some lateral thinking and referred me to a kidney specialist, who has pretty well got it sorted out now. I hope there's summat to be done for you, and sooner rather than later.
  22. Thank you Mr Badger. It's good to know that the Boche in that staff car didn't get away after all! They were running from a Typhoon and nearly crashed into a Cromwell. It's obvious that one or the other put paid to their hopes of a long holiday in Argentina. Maybe there's a story in how the painting was recovered. Sadly, a trip to Longleat is somewhat out of the question, as it's a fair old drive to get there from here, ergo I'll have to enjoy it via the wonders of t'internet. (Sorry for the thread derail Martin, I'll stop blathering.)
  23. 'The Fallen Madonna'... thank you gentlemen, you have once again (unwittingly) solved a small problem for me. I've been looking for inspiration as to which stolen paintings to put in the back of a fleeing SS staff car in a small diorama I have in mind. The Van Klomp (Clump? Whichever) is perfect. Dang I love this bar place.
  24. Proper pukka Porsches have rear engines and look like they belong on racetracks. Those current model barns on wheels are just... wrong. If people want SUVs, they can buy from that discount German brand, BMW...
