  1. Looking forward to this one, I recently found a photo that will.make a perfect basis for a small vignette.
  2. If Hitler had died during WW1... the conditions that led to the rise of National Socialism would still have existed, and someone would have risen to fill his place. And possibly, whoever it was may have been worse. Or better - your choice.
  3. The Big H at Lowestoft is... somewhat humbling. I was wandering around in there in 2007 and found a 1:1 Sea Harrier, presence previously unsuspected.
  4. Hmm, thanks Kallisti. I have some small serials at home, so I'll start a thread, press on with the build and see what I can find when I'm home in a week or so.
  5. Question. Is the Airfix Spitfire Mk 1a starter set eligible for this build? The aircraft on the box is X4561 QJ.B of 92 Sqn, at RAF Manston in Dec 1940 - too late for the BoB, but correct Sqn and codes... I ask because I started the kit without thinking about this GB (long story, but away for work with a little time to kill, and there's a small Toyworld shop here...) and suddenly realised that it may just be eligible. Doesn't matter either way, but I'd like to use this to actually finish a GB if I can. (If the hosts want, I can supply a photo of what I've done so far - I think I'm under the 25%.) Nice little kit too. And the Humbrol acrylics aren't bad. Although the teeny weeny brush is going to make the camouflage interesting to paint.
  6. I pop off the rotating bit and just use the inner cap. But then, I'm childless, so I don't have to worry...
  7. Funnily enough, I actually enjoy the minutiae of the 'engineering process', it's by far my favourite part of any model build. Which explains the dozens of half built and unpainted models in my house. Working out locations for studs and bolts and then fitting them would be bit I enjoyed the most.
  8. Sorta like that time that Grandma got a taste for espresso and drank 6 cups in one day... a flurry of petticoats, a whirl of dust and a-way-hay-hay she went! (Darn it, I am now considering a Centaurus powered Beaufighter.)
  9. I must admit to having a Star Wars pod-racer image in my head, but this will be entertaining.
  10. I am debating whether or not I should order a a kit for this GB. It's not like I don't have dozens of half finished models already, even if none of them are Meteors.
  11. Given my woeful record, I might start now. A year should give me ample time to get to 25% completed...
  12. Swap out those wimpy Mercuries for the Centaurus... now we're talking hosspower! 860 vs 2200-odd... it was in production for the Sea Fury, Shackleton, Brabazon and others, so it wouldn't be 'exotic'. You did say that the airframe was strengthened... Although I can't find any resin ones. EDIT: YES, I CAN!! http://www.ozmods-kits.com/ozmods-conversions-upgrades-accessories-172 You're welcome, always happy to help bonkers reign. And also, Engines & Things in fair Canadia do a Centaurus as well - I have a couple of their engines, and they are very nice indeed. I found mine on eBay, but here's a link to their website, which gives you a PDF catalogue. http://www.planet.eon.net/~engthg/
  13. Cue helicopter jokes from the plankies... And I can't believe I'm writing this... but OK, I'll join up.
  14. Snapper, if I find any time I'll have to spend it finishing what's been started - one of my rules was that for every GB I started, I'd finish one from the shelf of doom. Yeah, that went to plan... However, one never knows what might be inspirational.
  15. The thing I like about Ontos is that the real one had rubber band tracks. Eliminates the need for fiddly single links and/or aftermarket.
  16. Balsa inserts? Very retro. I like this build, and the serialisation of the backstory.
  17. Simple solution chaps - get their bank details and set up a regular transfer of say 20 quid a week into their account... whenever you pop in, you can draw on the prepaid amount to enhance the stash, without having to reach into your wallet! It was just an idea...
  18. Holy Hueys in the sunrise, another GB kicked off... I'm pretty sure I'll have to do a Switzerland on this one guys, and sit it out. I'm about to start a pretty solid month away for work (with a few days off for good behaviour), and I'm already about 4 GBs behind. I'll keep watch, see how you all get on.
  19. I gave you a like because it's Latvian. If I could, I'd give you another because it's a Bulldog, and another because you've done a fantastic job! Well played, sir!
  20. They may be cheap in the UK, I can't find any at all here in Aussie. By the time I add in postage from overseas, I may as well buy the much better AFV Club version locally, as the price works out the same. One of the penalties for living in paradise is that the postage costs are a killer....
  21. This... is not going to go ahead. Chieftain availability doesn't fit the timeline (ie it makes no sense for the story). Centurion would work admirably, but the only kit available is the AFV Club one, and I can't justify trashing a $60+ kit (30 quid, give or take) to make a what-if. I've been trying to find a cheap or part started one, but no joy there. So, unless a miracle happens, BAOR will have to just soldier on with what they've got, and hope like hell that Ivan stays on his side of the curtain. Sorry all. It would've been fun.
  22. Rick, maybe mount them in pairs on the fuselage rear, a la the VC-10...
  23. Ray S, as a worst case, there's always the Lockheed-Martin Sea Shadow as a black ship.
  24. I had a quick Wiki peek... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copper_sheathing But to make it easier, pitch would have been most likely, I imagine, unless they used sacrificial wood outer layers as per the article. Just my thoughts from a practical point of view, prepared to be corrected if someone with deeper knowledge shows up.
  25. I don't know what I'm doing work wise next month, let alone next year. If I can do it in the nominated timeframe, I'll join in. If not, oh well.
