  1. Oh good grief, another GB under way. Will someone please stop the world! I'll start a thread when I start a thread... which may be never.
  2. This will ruffle feathers, no doubt (sorry that I'm late...) I like my military aircraft to look like thugs, tough, blunt and unmovable. Hence my preference for the Hurricane over the Spitfire, and my mild dislike of the Hunter. Although a 'nice' aircraft, it's too pretty. Effete. It doesn't look like it can do anything more than give you a good talking to, maybe while brandishing a bowler hat in a vaguely aggressive manner. I'm afraid (although in no way apologetic) that my vote goes to Lightnings, Javelins and Sea Vixens, all of which look like they mean business. Even Meteors have a more aggressive stance than Hunters. So take it from me PC, being a Brit doesn't automatically mean that you have to like Hunters. I was born there, and I don't.
  3. off, dropped it on the driveway and went to buy a sensible, girl's car, not an oversized lard bucket on wheels, with a boat anchor engine and a truck gearbox. Returning home later that afternoon with a Nissan Micra in her handbag...
  4. I'm not saying that there were no roundels under the wings when it was in the UK, but serving Hawks are bare under there. This may be of use. http://www.kitreview.com/reviews/hawkdecalreviewbg_1.htm I have that sheet in 72nd, it comes with 4 roos only, and the guys who were behind AD seldom got things wrong. Sadly, it's long out of production.
  5. Not a sausage guys, sorry. I've been away at work for the last 2 weeks so nowts been done to anything. I'll be home Friday morning, so with luck I'll get some free time to myself and I'll be able to get on with the plastic bashing - this beast and an F-16 need finising PDQ or else I'll miss yet more GB deadlines! Thanks for the interest!
  6. Two things, neither a criticism. I had one of these kits until a few years ago, decided that I'd never be able to do it justice and sold it for more than I'd paid for it. I'll be following along. Also, for those moments of downtime, I highly recommend the book 'Don't Tell Mum I Work on the Rigs, She Thinks I'm a Piano Player in a Whorehouse' by Paul Carter. Very funny, even if you know nothing about oil or heavy industry in general. No doubt the real oilmen here will scoff, but I very much enjoyed it.
  7. I'd assumed 1/72 for some odd reason. Ignore me, I've never built a 48th F-16 from anyone!
  8. I'm building a couple of the Italeri ones, and haven't had any real issues with construction so far. That said, it's not the best shapewise, and the Revell one is better detailed. I have several of each, can't comment on Revell's buildability as I haven't started one yet.
  9. blah, blah...that's all well and good, but we live in a video age. Writing is like, soooo 2001. Just kidding - I grok the words and can picture how it works, I just like watching engineering (especially miniature engineering) do its stuff.
  10. Colour me gobsmacked. Amazing work. Any chance of a wee video of that latch action in action (so to speak)?
  11. The thing about Dremels and their ilk is that slipping is a difficult thing to do. Because the tool does the work and all you do is guide it, there's little to no pressure exerted by your hand, which minimises the risk of slips. If you do get one, buy a flexible shaft as well - much more comfortable to use long term.
  12. Well thank'ee. That answers the question about the pylons, too. Any thoughts on what could / would of hung on station 3, if anything?
  13. Jens, thanks for that. I haven't been able to find any photos from the 80s of Danish F-16As with AIM-9s anywhere but on the wingtips, but I'll retune my Google-fu and keep looking. I did find a twin launcher on an F-16 at China Lake though; obviously it didn't enter service. And of course this airframe received the MLU that improved her capabilities, but I'm modelling her before that happened. This is on hold for a week while I do a run of 6 night shifts away from home. Thanks again.
  14. If I can manage to half build one, I'm sure you'll nail it Enzo. They're lovely little kits, if a bit fiddly. I'll watch over your shoulder to see what I can learn!
  15. Why not, I voted for it last time! As for subjects, there's boats and racing cars as well. Possibly a motorcycle from New Zealand, too. And heliclopters. Lots of scope. I might make a start on a Wingnut Wings Sopwith Triplane. But don't hold your breath.
  16. Not much has happened here due to illness and work, but I've been researching as much as I can manage. I've been looking for photos/drawings/text on how Denmark would have armed their F-16As for an air defence mission (I don't want to load the little thing down with mud moving ordnance). Given the time frame (mid-80s), that means AIM-9 Sidewinders, no ASRAAMs or AMRAAMs to be seen. I'm thinking central and inner pylons with fuel tanks, then wing stations 1-3 and 7-9 (ie the wingtip plus outer 2 stations on each wing) with AIM-9s. If I could squeeze in a double 'winder carrier for 3 and 7 I'd be happy. I can't find any information about any of it, anywhere - even photos of armed early Danish F-16s seem to be hard to find. If you know of a reference, please let me know where to find it, or just tell me what I can hang where (and which pylons to use. ) Thanks. The search will continue...
  17. Different moulds completely, both have plus and minus points. I have the Aoshima Rocket Bunny kit in black, and it looks very nice. One day I'm build it! Aoshima does versions with and without engines, Tamiya's has an engine. Either would build a fine model.
  18. Apologies if I offended, none was meant - reply was dashed off on the phone. It could have been presented a bit less harshly. I have the 1/200 Dragon kit (mostly built) and the 1/72 Trumpeter (unstarted, because I don't live in a hanger). One day, I'll get 'em both finished.
  19. The Tu-95 isn't piston powered... it's a turboprop. It's also huge and quite magnificent.
  20. I haven't used them, but I do have a different set in the stash. They look good, in register and solid colour. Online reviews say they're nice indeed. Your friend will need to know that the decals don't come with instructions, they have to be downloaded from Tigerhead's website (saves production costs - smart use of technology IMO). There's no indication as to who actually prints them, but at least one set on the website has a note that they were printed by Microscale. I'd say go for it, but maybe buy from a real dealer - there's a list on Tigerhead's website of stockists.
  21. re the funnel - if she finds out, she finds out. It's plaster, not strychnine. And if all else fails, you can buy her a new set of funnels. Or flowers. Or both, depending on her annoyance level.
