  1. Hi,guys, I apologise for not having pictures of my StuG III showing the building process. But I took the following pictures a few minutes ago and would like to know what you britmodellers think. This is my second model so dont be too mean: I'm still "green" Jokes aside: am I doing fine? The building itself was dead easy and perfect for a newbie like me. Just some sanding, no putty needed and zero issues in general. Colours (Tamiya): dunkelgelb: xf-59 + xf-57 (1:1) olivgrün: xf-58 chipping: done by hand using Vallejo Panzer Grey Varnished with Vallejo gloss for the pin wash. Pin wash applied (brown wash for DAK vehicles). Next step: adding the spare wheels and the tow cables, painting of the tools and the tracks.
  2. Why do you think it's horrible? I use Tamiya and I find it great: easy to airbrush and... well I just like their paints. I also have a nice list of Tamiya mixes (I enjoy mixing stuff, what can I say?) for anything I may want to build. I tried Vallejo but use them to paint with paintbrush. Lifecolor: my judgement would be unfair because I want first to try with the product suggested by lasermonkey. Ammo: same as for LC. So far Tamiya is the winner for me
  3. Tamiya primer in the rattle can is awesome. I first tried Vallejo primer but hated it. Tamiya is much better and once dried, not only it has a wonderful finish that reveals the tiniest imperfections, but it is extremely resistant (not sure this is the right word. What I mean is that it gets as tough as a nail). Maybe it's not too cheap but any model shop online sells it so no problem to find it. I just would love it if Tamiya bothered to make a version of their primer that one can spray with an airbrush.... that would be perfection! !
  4. I'll give it a try. How much one needs to add to the paint?
  5. Could you tell me a good retarder that works with acrylics?
  6. Hi guys, hope this is the right area of the forum where to post weathering related questions... Anyway I just finished to paint my StuG III Ausf G by Tamiya (1:35): base coat of Dunkelgelb with Olivgrün camo. What colour should I choose as filter? Second question: you apply first filter then pin wash or pin wash then filter?
  7. I use Tamiya paints and they are great. But a few days ago I ordered 3 Lifecolor paints (Dunkelgelb, olivgrün and rotbraun for the StuG III and the Panther I'm building right now) after reading in several websites and magazines about the awesomeness of the Lifecolor paints. What I can say after airspraying my Panther with the Dunkelgelb is that the shade and finish are great. Problem: airbrush had clogging problems and to finish I had to clean the needle of my airbrush 2 or 3 times. Not a disaster but given that you MUST spray several very light coats, waiting some time between coats, the clogging may become slightly annoying. On the other hand some retarder could fix the problem. I will order it and try again. If I'll have good results, I'll definately use LC again (but I have to be honest here: Tamiya are much easier to airspray). Ah, forgot to say the in my test I thinned the LC with Ultimate Universal Thinner (ratio thinner/paint:30/70, as per instructions)
